Sub-Saharan Africa: Infinite Indebtedness
Gazdík, Vojtěch ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bauer, Michal (referee)
Sub-Saharan Africa is the poorest region in the world suffering from social, political and economic problems. The study focuses on investigation of relationship of capital flight and external debt to long-term economic growth in this region. Firstly the magnitude of capital flight is computed. Using fixed effects model and random effects model we estimate the impact of external debt and capital flight on long-term growth. Moreover the time structure of debt and its source is integrated into model. Our sample consists of 24 countries from sub-Saharan Africa over the period 1989-2008. We have found that external debt has statistically significant negative impact on growth. On the other hand this impact is economically negligible. The long-term growth is also slowed down by long-term debt and by multilateral borrowing. Concerning capital flight its effect on growth is harmful as well. Determining of the basic skills of preschool children in the town Trhove Sviny
ŠTANTÝSKÁ, Hana
The aim of this work is to find out the level of basic skills and physical abilities of preschool children in a town with 4167 inhabitants. The research took place on 1st to 30th June 2011 in Trhové Sviny, kindergarten Čtyřlístek (´Quatrefoil´). 51 children (4,5,6) participated in total. The anthropometric data of their height and weight were measured. Then the values of BMI were evaluated. We measured by motor tests in specific disciplines: long jump from a place, running at 20 meters, throwing a tennis ball with right and left hands. The results were compared by an age and sex of children. Then they were leveled by the project ´Growth and motor efficiency of preschool children´, published in 2010.

Digitization of Old and Middle English dictionaries
Tichý, Ondřej ; Klégr, Aleš (referee) ; Čermák, Jan (advisor)
The aim of the paper is both to outline the methodology of digitizing Old and Middle English dictionaries as well as to describe its successful implementation. It is argued that the digitization of old dictionaries is generally desirable, because it increases accessibility of valuable resources, which may be the only way of presenting their data to a wider audience. The paper first briefly and comprehensively surveys the field of Old & Middle English lexicographical resources, comparing in greater detail the most promising candidates for digitization. Possible and desirable features of a digitized dictionary are then explored and on that basis An Anglo-Saxon Dictionary of J. Bosworth & T. N. Toller is chosen for the digitization project itself. All the phases of the digitization are then described: scanning, character recognition, hand-corrections, data preparation and application development. The current state of the Bosworth-Toller digitization project is explained and presented, while two major suggestions are made for its future development: the re-tagging of its data and the development of a morphological analyser of Old English.

Jews in Finland during World War II
Dvořáková, Jana ; Ebelová, Ivana (referee) ; Šedinová, Jiřina (advisor)
Before and during World War II there was almost no Anti-Semitism in Finland, and in fact, the Finnish government refused to condone the Nazis' anti-Jewish platform. When Finland also refused to cooperate with the Soviet Union in late 1939, Soviet troops attacked Finland. As equal Finnish citizens, the country's Jews joined the army to fight the Soviets; some 15 were killed and many others were wounded. After holding out for several months, Finland surrendered to the Soviet Union in March 1940 and was forced to hand over some of its territory to the Soviets. In 1941 German troops came to Finland; Finland then joined Germany as its ally in the attack on the Soviet Union in order to recapture the land it had lost to the Soviets in the Winter war. Some 300 Jews (Finnish citizens and refugees from other countries) served in the Finnish army during the Continuous war. The German authorities requested that the Finnish government hand over its Jewish community, but the Finns refused. Reportedly, when SS chief Heinrich Himmler brought up the "Jewish question" with Prime Minister Johann Wilhelm Rangell in mid-1942, Rangell replied that there was no Jewish question in Finland; he firmly stated that the country had but 2,000 respected Jewish citizens who fought in the army just like everyone else, and thus closed the...

Hand and Finger Detection in the Video Sequences
Šulek, Jakub ; Procházka, Boris (referee) ; Dluhoš, Ondřej (advisor)
The thesis deals with problems concerning detection of human hand and fingers in the videosequences, especially navigation and determination of correct distribution of fingers. There is an opening presentation of existing biometrics, description of biometric system and hand anatomy. After are given the methods of hand geometry recognition and functional example description. Consequently there is a proposal of a new solution. Program uses open source OpenCV library based on hand's significant points detection. The next part of the thesis is dedicated to navigation, detection of known states and description of order determining mechanism.

Beginning and duration of flowering period in selected arable weed species
Trefil, Daniel ; Holec, Josef (advisor) ; Václav, Václav (referee)
Arable weeds are usually perceived as harmfull organisms in crops. On the other hand, the weeds provide a stable source of food for insects and other invertabrates that feed on pollen and nectar. Majority of crops are not able to provide long-term food component for invertebrates because their flowering is synchronized. Arable weeds flower continously throughout the growing season. There is possible to find many flowering species for the whole year. The main aim of the study was to determine the onset and duration time of flowering period for selected arable weed species. The observation was conducted at the Demonstration and experimental field of Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources neighbouring areas as well as demonstration plots with rare weed species that do not occur in fields naturally. Inventory of flowering species was performed weakly from 9th calendar week (after frost period) and finished at 48th calendar week. There were found and evaluated 160 plant species of which 67 were the rare species from demonstration plots. First flowering weeds were photoperiodically neutral species, mainly from the group of winter annual weeds followed by ephemeral annual weeds. Among others, the late-flowering species were particulary from the group of summer annual weeds, but also some from perennial species. During the first week of observation, 11 flowering species were found. The number gradually increased up to a maximum of 118 flowering species in the 27th calendar week; then the number of flowering plant species naturally decreased. Newly flowering species were being found until 36th calendar week. Weed differed significantly in onset of the flowering acording to perenniality, in most cases. Length of flowering period in individual species was in relation to particular families.

Evaluation of textbooks by pupils and teachers
BÍZKOVÁ, Lucie
The subject of this diploma thesis titled "Evaluation of textbooks by pupils and teachers" is to evaluate a textbook in terms of its functions. The main aim was to find out the pupils and teachers views to a textbook, which is used in their Czech lessons. In the theoretical part of this thesis I´ve been working with the textbook in general and I mentioned its history and then added several classifications of its functions. In the next chapters of this thesis is the most important the functions´ classification by Dmitrij Dmitrijevič Zujev. Then I have included researches of textbook made abroad and in Czech Republic and their selected results. The practical part is based on a survey carried out in the Year Seven at one primary school in České Budějovice. The questionnaire was handed to pupils and they marked their textbooks in terms of selected features from the classification mentioned above. Teachers´ task was the same as theirs pupils and on top of that react to the pupils answers.

Examination Methods in Kidney Disease and Urinary Tract from the Perspective of a Nurse
HOLÁNOVÁ, Klára
Theoretical part of the thesis: In the theoretical part, the most frequently used examination methods for kidney and urinary tract diseases are briefly described. For each examination method, the course of examination is described and also the information necessary for patients who are due to undergo it are included. Individual examination methods also include a description of the nurse's work which is related to the corresponding examination. Aims of the thesis: In the empirical part, two aims are set. The first aim was to ascertain the specificity of nursing care of a patient after a diagnostic cystoscopy, to which this question was posed: What information on the issues of complications after diagnostic cystoscopy do the nurses have? The second aim was to ascertain with what information the nurses provide patients before the sonography of kidneys and bladder. To this aim, following question was posed: With what information do the nurses provide patients before the sonography of kidneys and bladder? Methodology of the thesis: To create the empirical part, qualitative research using a semi-structured interview method was selected. The research sample was comprised of nurses from the departments of urology of selected hospitals of the South Bohemian Region. The data collection was carried out after the interview questions were approved by the head of the nursing staff and after an agreement with the charge nurse of particular department. The matter of this research was explained to every respondent and they were assured that their answers are anonymous and would be used only in the empirical part of this thesis. Due to the disagreement of nurses with recording of interviews, the interviews were written down in hand and then rewritten on a computer. The interviews contained a total of 15 questions ascertaining identification data, general nursing care, the most frequently performed examinations, problems of patients, preparation and providing information before a sonographic examination and a diagnostic cystoscopy. The data obtained were further processed into categorization groups and analysed. Results: In the empirical part, we ascertained from the results of the research survey that the nurse's care of patients at the department of urology is rather average, but the nurses are familiar with the basics of nursing and they know how to prepare patients for the examination. The research survey showed that nurses are not familiar with the preparation of a patient for a sonographic examination of kidneys not a single nurse stated the instructions to patient on non-flatulent diet on the day before the examination. The nurses are mostly familiar with care of a patient after a diagnostic cystoscopy and they are informed about possible complications associated with this examination. Conclusion: The theme of this bachelor thesis was chosen and written about to deepen my knowledge on this issue. The thesis could also be used as a study material for nurses who do not have enough information on this issue and would like to deepen their knowledge. It could also be suitable for patients who are not sure about the examination they should undergo.
