Pavel Tigrid and the magazine Svědectví ("Testimony") - historical biographical essay
Růžička, Jan ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
Pavel Tigrid (1917-2003) was czech influential writer, journalist and politician, a distinctive member of czech anticommunist exile. He published the magazine Svědectví (Testimony) - the most famous periodical of czech exile. It was established in the USA, but its seat moved to Paris later on and then to Prague after the Velvet revolution. He worked in London during the second world war. He took part in the exile radio broadcast and cooperated closely with the prime minister in exile Jan Šrámek, who influenced him in converting to the catholic religion. He was editor-in-chief in the magazine Obzory (Horizons), which was well-known for its critical, anticommunist attitude. After his emigration he participated in establishment of the czech version of Radio Free Europe. He continued in his strong-worded comments towards the despotism of the totalitarian communist regime until the end of his life with his typical humor and sarcasm. The czech communist leaders considered him as the most dangerous representative of anticommunist resistance in exile. This bachelor essay is the first attempt to compactly summarize the professional life of this figure. It also has an ambition to explore the avail of the magazine Svědectví in the cultural and political life in exile and in Czechoslovakia of that time.

Genome size variation and evolution of Hieracium L.
Zahradníček, Jaroslav ; Suda, Jan (referee) ; Chrtek, Jindřich (advisor)
In this study, 43 "main" species (Zahn) of the subgenus Hieracium and 3 species of the subgenus Chionoracium were studied karyologically and cytometrically. Triploid cyto- types predominate in the whole of Europe. Diploid cytotypes are mainly concentrated in specific areas of presumed glacial refugia in southern Europe. Chromosome counts of plants from the subgenus Chionoracium are congruent with all values published so far. The measured monoploid genome size in subgen. Hieracium correlated with the concurrently produced molecular phylogeny (ETS), which also separated two main lineages of species that correspond to their geographic distribution. Both these lineages differed significantly in genome size (Cx). On average, members of the "eastern" group had over 1 pg more DNA members of the "western" group. Some of the "main" species were marked as hybridogeneous/hybrid between the two lineages by ETS markers. The genome size of these hybridogeneous species was surprisingly higher than the average genome size of both main lineages. Intraspecies variability in genome size was found in seven species. It has been explained by the presence of populations of hybridogeneous origin, multiple polyploidization events and, in one species, turned out to be a methodical artifact. Both subgenera under study markedly...

1 SUMMARY STANISLAVA ŠČOTKOVÁ VRANOV NAD DYJÍ PARISH TEAM (BACHELOR THESIS) Vranov nad Dyjí Parish Team (FATYM) is a community of Catholic priests, deacons and other collaborators in the Brno diocese. It is based on joint management of several priests over a greater number of parishes. The team was created by decision of the Brno diocese bishop Mons. Vojtěch Cikrle in 1996. In addition to the fact that FATYM administrates conferred parishes, the team members try - using their specific charismas and abilities - to help out in different areas pastoral care in our country. Its activities include the parish's missions, the organization of pilgrimages on foot, Marian brotherhoods, press apostolate, Internet TV broadcasting, Pure Love Initiative, publishing "Milujte se!" Czech internet literary criticism
Kučera, Štěpán ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (referee) ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor)
This diploma thesis surveys Czech literary criticism on the internet and its relationship towards the printed literary criticism, or generally, the relationship between new and traditional media. I define what "Czech literary criticism on the internet" can mean and describe its situation in 2009. I created an imaginary central line going from the terminal of traditional media to the terminal of new media. I lined the websites from the ones tightly connected to the traditional terminal (e. g. web magazines) to the ones in the purely "net terminal" (e. g. discussion servers). I found important projects there that exist in the periphery of Czech literary life (as reflected by the traditional media). Then I asked members of the web projects to fill in a short questionnaire focused on the literary criticism on the internet and its relationship to the culture of traditional media. Also, I posed the same questions to Czech book publishers as representatives of the traditional culture. I found out that the publishers' relationship towards the new media critics is "slightly optimistic" but at the same time ambivalent and distrustful. On the other hand the survey among members of web projects revealed that for these people the internet publication is as valid as a publication in printed media but still they are aware...

The research part is heading towards the goal of this thesis a survey based verification of the lied out hypothesis. Research was realized from December 2008 till February 2009. The list of questions was intended for sister wards at intensive care units. The outcomes are summarized in the discussion and the final part of the thesis. The average rate of occurrence these patients is higher then in published foreign studies. The result of this thesis is not acceptable for representative and applicable exoteric health care institutions.

Chess performance and memory in children
Barták, Karel ; Uhlář, Pavel (referee) ; Bahbouh, Radvan (advisor)
Memory in the chess-players is one of the most important cognitive functions of all - especially as far as their ability to remember the chess positions is concerned. The theoretical part of this thesis implies both - an account of general memory characterizations with their evolution and the summary of the hitherto published results of the research from the domain connected with memory and chess performance in the adults but with a rare analysis of children playing chess. Therefore in the experimental part the author is concentrated mainly on the relationship between the chess performance and memory in children. The experimental group was constituted from 31 children of different efficiency in chess starting from 8 to 15 years of age. A part of the group was represented by the pupils of one of the elementary Prague schools, the other one was formed by the members of the junior chessclub of Prague. Results of this experiment showed a significant relationship of the memory to both - the meaningfull chess position as well as to the random chess position. A secondary finding was that there was no a significant relationship between memory abilities and age of the respondents. According to the positive influence of chess on the memory in children the author recommends to follow on this topic in the further...

Identification, expression, and characterization of Phlebotomus orientalis salivary antigens
Šíma, Michal
Sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) are vectors of Leishmania spp. (Kinetoplastida: Trypanosomatidae), medically and veterinary important parasites causing leishmaniasis. These protozoans are inoculated into the host during blood-feeding together with the vector saliva. Salivary components are crucial for sand fly female blood-sucking but also play a major role in the initial stage of parasite development. It was demonstrated that this rich mixture of proteins performs different functions after its injection into the host like hydrolyzing ATP and ADP, binding biogenic amines, and others which inhibits the haemostatic reaction and modulate the immune system thus enables the successful feeding. So far, cDNA salivary transcriptomes have been constructed for twelve sand fly species and we added another one - Phlebotomus orientalis, the main vector of Leishmania donovani, a causative agent of human visceral leishmaniasis in East African countries. We described members of thirteen protein families which corresponded with previously published salivary cDNA libraries of other sand fly species and showed the main salivary antigens using sera of experimentally bitten mice and naturally exposed dogs. Specific IgG antibody response is induced against sand fly salivary proteins in repeatedly bitten hosts....

The Czech Music Community - Tradition, the Present Day
Kuhnová, Barbora ; Jenčková, Eva (referee) ; Kittnarová, Olga (advisor)
My thesis is focused on the entire history of the Czech Music Society. This work is divided into two main parts. In the first section I deal with the history of the Czech Music Society from its very beginning to nowadays and in the sccond part I concentrated on the organization structure of every single part. The Czech Music Society is a voluntary independent association of people who are interested in music. The organization concentrates primarily on music education, musicology, interpretation, publishing and so on. It organizes a lot of activities in connection with music, for example courses both for professionals and amateurs, lectures, workshops, concerts, music summer camps and excursions. Its own history dates back to 1972 when the preparatory commission was established. The organization officially started its activity in 1975. The range of activities was truly wide. After the Velvet revolution in 1989 the Czech Music Society had to tackle serious financial problems. The members have tried to solve these problems, unfortunately without any success. The Society will cease to exist by the end of the year 2006.
