Problems of meeting the needs of patients with ulcerative colitis
MALKUSOVÁ, Markéta
This bachelor thesis is concerned with meeting the needs of patients with ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is a hemorrhagic-catarrhal inflammation of the small intestinal mucosa, which is located in rectum and expands continually to the proximal part of the intestine or to the intestine as a whole. The inflammation most frequently affects the area of rectum and is generally confined to the colon. Rarely, it may also appear in the terminal part of the small intestine (terminal ileum). Ulcerative colitis interferes with the intestinal mucosa and thereby causes the inflammatory changes to appear on its surface. Currently, the denomination is further specified to proctocolitis idiopathica. Apart from proctocolitis idiopathica, the Crohn's disease is also classified as idiopathic bowel disease. These two illnesses are the most common, nonspecific, chronic and inflammatory diseases of the digestive tract. Proctocolitis idiopathica is characterized by very uncomfortable and frequent defecation of diarrheal, blood-admixed stool during the acute phase. The early diagnostic and treatment are crucial concerning ulcerative colitis. The treatment of such disease consists of the usage of medication as established in the gastroenterology clinic, as well as the proper diet keeping. Moreover, the theoretical part deals with the hierarchy of needs and its definition. The knowledge of patient's needs and their fulfillment is of a great importance for a nurse, as it enables her to apply the proper nursing process. She is supposed to be able to recognize the needs of the patient and meet them adequately. Every person has a great variety of needs which need to be fulfilled. When this process fails, it affects the psyche of a human, mainly in areas as attention, thinking, emotions, perception, etc. The practical part is focused on the further processing and evaluation of data. The data were acquired from seven patients treated ambulatory and from six nurses employed in the gastroenterology ward. The research section consists of three objectives: Objective 1: To detect the particularities of proctocolitis-idiopathica patients. Objective 2: To map out the meeting of needs of patients with proctocolitis idiopathica. Objective 3: To determine the most frequent nursing problems concerning the treatment of proctocolitis-idiopathica patients. Based on these objectives, three research questions were established: Question 1: What are the nursing care particularities of ulcerative-colitis patients? Question 2: How the ulcerative-colitis patients meet their needs during their hospitalization? Question 3: What are the most frequent nursing problems whom the nurses come across with when nursing ulcerative-colitis patients? A qualitative method was applied in the research part. The data-collection technique is represented by semi-structured interview and took place both in the outpatient and inpatient sections, either with patients of with nurses. The exceptional cases were two respondents who were examined in a home environment. Based on this thesis, the brochure was created in order to help the patients treated with ulcerative colitis or those, who were just recently diagnosed with such ilness. On the top of that, it is also useful for nurses from various wards, due to the possibility for the ulcerative-colitis patient to be hospitalized in diverse hospital sections.

The Needs of Patients Undergoing Dialysis Treatment.
HORNOVÁ, Klára
This thesis intents on patients with chronic kidney diseases. In the theoretical part I sum up basic informations about kidney failure which is a state when kidneys stop to secrete waste ingredients from the body. Then I describe common treatment methods which are hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and transplantation. Nevertheless, the most important is to diagnostic the disease at the early stage and start the therapy as soon as possible. This part of thesis also describes physiological, psychical and social needs of the patient. The nursing staff has to know about all these needs which are connected, therefore neglecting one part may influence the others in a negative way. On the other hand, when all needs are satisfied the patient feels comfortable and the therapy can be successfull. When we get understand the specific needs of every single patient the quality of nursing care enhance radically. The practical part of the thesis explores all the needs through half-structured interviews with nine patients under hemodialysis treatment. We may sum up the outcome briefly as follows: the most important for the patient is the painless state, enough sleep and rest and sufficient fluid intake security. The psychical support is important no less. Unsatisfying these needs may lead to frustruation and deprivation of the patient. On the contrary, satisfaction makes him contented and peaceful and motivates him for getting cured. This thesis may help people with recent diagnosis of chronic kidney disfunction and also people who are already set in dialysis therapy to get more informations. The research may be a source of informations also for students and nurses in practice as well. Hopefully may lead to understanding the needs and limitations of the patients under dialysis treatment and thus to provision them a better care.
English (semi-)modal "need (to)" and its Czech counterparts
Polláková, Helena ; Popelíková, Jiřina (advisor) ; Klégr, Aleš (referee)
The English verb need (to) belongs to the class of verbs which show characteristics of both modal and lexical verbs. The aim of the study is to provide a description of the verb with respect to its semantics, use and grammatical features. The first theoretical part summarizes theoretical findings about the verb need (to) and marginal modals and modality in general. Furthermore, it briefly touches upon the issue of expressing modality in Czech. The empirical part is then based on the analysis of selected examples extracted from the English-Czech part of the parallel corpus InterCorp. The analysis examines the proportion of the use of need and need to and the means of their translation in Czech - whether the corresponding Czech sentences include modal verbs, modal adverbs, verbal or verbo-nominal constructions meaning potřebovat or completely different means.
The Adaptation Process of the Senior in the Home for Elderly Pohoda
BABŮRKOVÁ, Veronika
The present Bachelor thesis analyses the adaptation process of seniors in the Home for elderly Pohoda in Netolice. Even in the last stage of their life, everyone has a right to retain dignity in their life, accompanied with happiness and contentment. If an old-aged person depends on assistance provided by an institutional care, entering a home for seniors brings with it a significant change of his or her life. For an old-aged person, this period is interconnected with risk factors and should be directed at a hassle-free integration of the old-aged person in a new environment and a smooth adaptation to conditions of a home for seniors. The theoretical part of the thesis is engaged in the processes of old age and aging, importance of the family and values of a human life. In addition, the theoretical part provides characteristics of a home for seniors, introducing briefly the Home for elderly Pohoda in Netolice. A separate chapter is concerned with the adaptation process, delineation of a social worker, including communication as an important component of the work with seniors. The objective of the Bachelor thesis is to map the factors decisively influencing the adaptation process after coming to the Home for elderly Pohoda in Netolice. The empirical part relies on the method of qualitative research, the basic technique of semi-structured interview and the clustering technique. Respondents were chosen by the intentional quota sampling method. The main research question was postulated for this thesis as follows: What factors have the decisive influence on the adaptation process after joining a home for seniors? Results of our research have revealed that it is important to be given an opportunity to prepare for coming to a home for seniors. The switch-over to the life in the home for seniors was much easier for those who were given a certain period of time to enable them to put up with joining a home for seniors. For seniors, the main symbol in their life is the family, which brings a feeling of security and contributes significantly to the process of overcoming a difficult period in the life of an old-aged person. The research proved the importance of activation activities, which motivate an old-aged person for his or her independence and self-sufficiency. Results of the present thesis may serve, in particular, to employees of the specific home for seniors, and should improve the life of seniors when joining the home for seniors. Last but not least, the results should contribute to awareness of importance of the adaptation process, when a sensitive and emphatic approach of the staff and family members is the constituent element in the process of adaptation to a new environment and new life of seniors.
