Public opinion on the role of churches in the society and on the restitution of church property
Ďurďovič, Martin
September's survey of CVVM comprised a question regarding the role of church in the society and a set of questions concerning the topic of church restitution. On the one hand, the presented press release contains information on to what extent citizens are interested in the problem of church restitution and to what extent they agree with the current proposal of property compensations toward churches. On the other hand, it analyses in detail, what is the public opinion on the range of these compensations and it also follows up, what attitudes citizens take toward different key aspects of church restitution, as they unfolded in the existing debate. It turned out that Czechs consider churches to be desirable most importantly for granting of spiritual support to people and for performing of charity. But only about one sixth of the public subscribes to the current proposal of church property compensations.

Števíková, Eva ; Tajovský, Ladislav (advisor) ; Chalupecký, Petr (referee)
The aim of my bachelor thesis is an analysis of the process of privatization in Czechoslovakia, resp. in the Czech Republic, after the fall of the socialist regime in 1989. The transfer of state property to private hands became one of the key aspects of the transformation process and was one of the necessary prerequisites for a functioning free market. In the introduction of my work, I will evaluate certain hypotheses held by the creators and participants at the beginning of the process of privatization as well outline as which options and strategies were considered. I will also try to answer the question of why things proceeded in the manner in which they did. I will attempt to define the risks and pressures that the transfer of such a huge amount of property in such a short time entailed. I will describe the process of denationalization, namely restitution through small and large privatization, while focusing on the progress of voucher privatization, which served as the primary method of large privatization. In my work, I drew from published sources and recent professional literature.

One of the crucial areas of the Land Fund of the Czech Republic is settlement with beneficiaries in restitution process by law No. 229/1991 Coll., about ownership of land and other agricultural property. This area also comprises so-called church restitution, which has not been solved up till present thanks to fundamental divergent opinions of executive and political representation. Theoretical and methodological part is based on evidence derived from the law No.229/1991 Coll. , No.87/1991 Coll. , No.403/1990 Coll. , No.95/1999 Coll. specialized literature and other related sources. This section deals with the general description of the transformation from centrally planned economy into market economy after 1989. Attention is paid to the four pillars of the transformation process, especially to changes in property rights, a key part of which is the restitution process. It further explains the necessary terminology and definitions related to this topic. The practical part analyzes in particular the restitution process regulated by law No.229/1991 Coll. about ownership of land and other agricultural assets in the given period from 1991 to 2010. The basic parameters of the restitution process will be examined; namely: the development of the number of beneficiaries, the number of persons settled in each year, the value of restitution claims, the structure of the settlement of claims for natural restitution, compensatory restitution, etc. The analysis will also address the restitution of church property, a crucial part of which is dealt with by this law.
