Dance floor as a safe space: interviews with women of Czech club culture
Láska, Timon ; Hroch, Miloš (advisor) ; Turek, Pavel (referee)
The practical bachelor's thesis Dance Floor as a Safe Space: interviews with women in Czech club culture was written as a response to the ongoing debate about safe spaces in club cultures, in which the part of society most affected by the discussion, i.e. women, the queer community and other marginalized groups, rarely get a place to express themselves. The issue is more serious in the context of club cultures and the predominantly specific rave culture because these cultures present themselves as egalitarian cultures without any marginalization based on gender, sex, race, nation, or religion. In addition to gender diversity, the thesis also deals with the issue of safe spaces within club cultures; these two issues are closely and inextricably linked. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the concepts that relate to the topic from a historical and contemporary context, it deals with the theory of the genre of the journalistic interview, gender and gender stereotyping, safe space, and last but not least club cultures and the rave culture under study. It will also delineate the functioning and differences between the scenes of both cities, Prague and Brno. The practical part of the thesis will present a series of ten interviews with women and non-binary people from the club cultures of Prague...
Beyond tourism: Development of place branding in the context of the City of Prague
Legáthová, Lucia ; Koudelková, Petra (advisor) ; Moravcová, Hana (referee)
In today's global landscape, cities and regions are increasingly competing for investments, tourists, and talent, prompting the adoption of multi-dimensional branding strategies beyond tourism promotion. City branding has emerged as a means to enhance the overall image and attractiveness of cities. Despite growing academic interest in city branding, a research gap exists, specifically in the case of Prague, where the international perception does not align with the progressive transformation of the city. The case study of the City of Prague is explored to examine its city branding efforts, uncover the most pressing challenges and provide possible solutions through a combination of content analysis of key strategic documents and semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders. Findings reveal a discrepancy between Prague's desired image and its branding efforts, hindered by a lack of clear leadership, political interest, coordination and long-term strategic vision. Addressing these challenges will be crucial for Prague to build a distinctive and successful city brand. Establishing clear leadership, engaging political stakeholders early in the process and defining clear and measurable objectives are among the potential solutions to bridge the gap between Prague's desired image and its branding efforts.
Weaving two worlds: A Moroccan Narrative of Adaptation in Prague
Boulghazi, Firdaousse ; Černý, Karel (advisor) ; Minářová, Markéta (referee)
Immigration or relocation offers a valuable opportunity to explore the impact of a new environment on the cultural repertoire or identity of a specific group. This qualitative study delves into the adaptation experiences of 17 Moroccan nationals residing in Prague. The focus is placed on their adept navigation of cultural differences, the strategies employed to overcome challenges during the adaptation process, and the revelation of the pivotal role played by social networks and support systems in their transition to Prague life. A carefully designed semi-structured interview protocol was used to gather detailed data. The data analysis followed the principles of constructive grounded theory methodology, aiming to develop a deep understanding and identify patterns in the collected information. Through systematic coding and continuous comparison, several significant themes emerged from the data: Cultural Dichotomy: Navigating Two Worlds (a); Bonds of Belonging: Building Bridges with Fellow Moroccans (b); Chasing Integration: Struggles and Strategies in Prague (c), Unveiling Identities: Negotiating Individuality in a Foreign Land (d).

Zemancová, Rebeka ; Sojka, Pavel (advisor) ; Vlčková, Jana (referee)
This bachelor 's thesis focuses on the influence which can Prague Common Czech language have on students from the Zlin area who are staying in Prague for longer period. The first part of the work deals with the theory, especially with the theme of language varieties and the differences between them. The second part of the work is the empiric part, which consists of interviews with young students from the Zlin area. The interviews are led in such a way that the respondents do not know what exactly the subject matter is. The second part of the interview aims at the speakers' language reflection. All the interviews are recorded and transcribed. All the information crucial for this work is included in the transcriptions. The results of the empiric part partly confirm some theses which were established at the outset of the work. For example, that social interaction plays a significant role in the question of adaptation to the Common Czech. Results cannot be viewed as unequivocal, the conditions under which the interviews were made should be taken into consideration. What is more, the specific nature of each speaker should be considered too. The general summary could be that, in most of cases, some kind of linguistic accommodation on the language of the majority is present. The extent of the adaptation...

Oravcová, Jana ; Wohlmuth, Petr (advisor) ; Hlaváček, Jiří (referee)
The aim of the final thesis will be to examine the Slovak community in Prague during the socalled normalization period. The year 1968 is set as a fundamental milestone when significant events took place in the development of Czechoslovakia. In the thesis, we will be interested in the motivations behind the arrival of Slovaks in Prague, their assimilation in the new environment, and how they perceived the different cultural surroundings. An important assumption is that Slovaks came to Prague in order to improve their standard of living. At the same time, the scope of our research is limited to the 1970s, and we will attempt to analyze in more detail the experiences of Slovaks in Prague who migrated during this period.

Bečvář, Daniel ; Špačková, Petra (advisor) ; Veselý, Martin (referee)
The thesis deals with the topic of place attachment, i.e. the emotional bond of a person to a place, in this case to the place of residence, with a focus on residents of socialist housing estates. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the theoretical background. It discusses, on the one hand, the available literature on the development of place attachment, the ways of measuring it or the psychological nature of this attachment itself. Also, the phenomenon of modernist housing estates and their contemporary image is described in this part. In the second, empirical part, the aim is to find out how place attachment is formed among the residents of the housing estates, what further influences this relationship, and how this process of evolving differs in the two estates. The research is qualitative in nature and the main method of data collection is semi-structured interviews. The case study was carried out in two housing estates in Prague, which differ both in size and in how well they are known by the general public - the Ďáblice housing estate and the Spořilov housing estate. In this work, three mechanisms leading to the development of place attachment were identified - growing local familiarity, intensive time spent on the estate, and civic engagement. In addition to the mechanisms, the...
