The issue of regulation of transnational corporations

The bachelor thesis deals with the regulation of transnational corporations. The aim is to assess the challenges of multinational companies, their regulation and possible interactions with national states. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on general characteristics of multinational companies and one of the ways of their regulation, corporate social responsibility (CSR). In the practical part of the thesis is described on a concrete example of the activity of the oil company Royal Dutch Shell in Nigeria of how transnational corporations influence national states. If they strengthen the state and bring him benefits, or are the instigator of destabilizing the economy and other issues.
Economic diplomacy of China in Africa

This diploma thesis analyzes the economic diplomacy of China in Africa. It focuses on searching for motives, players and instruments used for its implementation. The starting point is a theoretical description of economic diplomacy in general followed by a more specific description of foreign policy and economic diplomacy of China. The main part of the thesis is dedicated to the analysis of particular areas of economic diplomacy of China in Africa - mainly trade, investments and development aid - where it is possible to observe implementation in practice. The thesis further deeply analyzes the sector of natural resources where all the particular instruments and players meet. Marginally it includes an analysis of others specific parts as health diplomacy and soft power. The complex picture is drawn in the section of case study of Nigeria which is the typical example of the Chinese strategy of economic diplomacy. The concluding paragraphs of the thesis evaluate the overall implications of China's presence in Africa.

This thesis deals with main principles and goals of Nigerian foreign policy, their evolution - success and failures, during the 50 year's existence of independent Nigeria. First chapter determinates the principles and goals, which more or less apply for each and every Nigerian government, militaristic and civil as well. Remaining three chapters describe and analyze the development of Nigeria's external relations in the three contexts of Nigeria's international interaction: domestic, regional and external.
Political and socio-economic relations of Great Britain with its former colonies, Kenya and Nigeria from colonial rule to the present

The aim of this final thesis is to evaluate the impact of British colonialism on Nigeria and Kenya, to describe positives and negatives. Attention is paid to relations between countries in the period of colonial rule, the development of nationalist movements, the transition to independence, and contemporary relations between the countries. The aim is also to identify differences in the colonization of Nigeria and Kenya. For each country there are mentioned important factors affecting the development of political and socio-economic relations.

The presented bachelor thesis deals with oil supplies in subsaharan Africa, with detailed focus on oil production in Nigeria. First part of this work deals with general characterization of african oil-producing states, their oil supplies and their importance to the world economics and the influence of their oil supplies to their own political and economical developement. The conclusions from the first part of the work are consequently applied in the second part of the work, which details the biggest subsaharan oil producer -- Nigeria. The main goal of this bachelor thesis was to demonstrate dependence of Nigeria on oil production and to find potential pros and cons, that the oil production causes to the state of Nigeria. The results which I concluded are presented in the final part of the work.
Remittances and their comparison with ODA in selected countries of West Africa

This bachelor thesis compares remittances and official development assistance in Ghana and Nigeria. The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part the reader is familiar with the theoretical definition of remittances and ODA. The second part describes the situation in the area of remittances in Ghana and Nigeria - including the quantification of the flows of remittances. This section also describes the use and transfer of remittances in the region. The last part compares ODA and remittances in Ghana and Nigeria. The comparison is done primarily by quantification of both flows and their impact on the population and economy of the country. The aim of this thesis is to provide the reader some useful information about remittances and ODA in Ghana and Nigeria.
The effect of political decisions on GDP: Can poverty be solved politically?

This thesis examines whether democracy leads to economic development. GDP graphs are used as indicators of economic development, Polity IV's graphs as indicators of the political situation in the respective country. Three Subsaharan countries are examined: Nigeria as a country that prospers thanks to its mineral supplies, Ghana as one of the developed countries in Subsaharan Africa and Zimbabwe as an autocratic country ruled by a dictator. Links between democracy and economic development have been proved fully in Ghana, partially in Zimbabwe and the Nigerian economy is dependant on the world oil prices more than on its democratic development.

ECOWAS is the integration grouping of 15 West African countries. The first chapter deals with the history, geography, demography and economic situation of the grouping. The main objective of this bachelor thesis was to analyze position of West Africa in international trade and identify the expected development in the future. Last chapter is devoted to 4 representative Member States of ECOWAS - Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Liberia.
Nigeria in Historic Perspective, its Foreign Policy and Current Problems

The thesis "Nigeria in Historic Perspective, Its Foreign Policy and Current Problems"describes a historic development of Nigeria including current political and economic situation after parliamentary and presidental elections in spring 2007. Historical outline forms the introductory part of the thesis, which is followed by general analysis of Nigerian foreign policy and its activity in chosen African and other international organizations. The other part of the chapter contains an analysis of mutual relations between Nigeria and its surrounding states -- Benin, Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. Next chapter characterizes the oil conflict in the Niger Delta and possible suggestions for its solutions. The closing part presents summary of discovered information.
