Tato práce zkoumá, zda demokracie vede k ekonomickému rozvoji. Jako ukazatel ekonomického vývoje je použit graf HDP, jako ukazatel politické situace v zemi graf Polity IV z Centra systémového míru (Center for systemic peace). Zkoumány jsou tři země subsaharské Afriky: Nigérie jako země těžící ze svého nerostného bohatství; Ghana jako zástupce vyspělejších zemí subsaharské Afriky s etablovanou demokracií a Zimbabwe jako absolutistický stát v čele s diktátorem. U Ghany se prokázala souvislost demokracie s hospodářským rozvojem, u Zimbabwe jen částečně a u Nigérie určují hospodářský vývoj světové ceny ropy, demokracie hraje podružnou roli. This thesis examines whether democracy leads to economic development. GDP graphs are used as indicators of economic development, Polity IV's graphs as indicators of the political situation in the respective country. Three Subsaharan countries are examined: Nigeria as a country that prospers thanks to its mineral supplies, Ghana as one of the developed countries in Subsaharan Africa and Zimbabwe as an autocratic country ruled by a dictator. Links between democracy and economic development have been proved fully in Ghana, partially in Zimbabwe and the Nigerian economy is dependant on the world oil prices more than on its democratic development.
