Elektronové vlastnosti sloučenin RPd5Al2

We have studied magnetic properties of the intermetallic NdPd5Al2 com- pound by means of specific heat and magnetization measurements and neutron scattering. The compound crystallizes in the tetragonal I4/mmm space group with lattice parameters a =4.147 ˚A and c =14.865 ˚A, orders antiferromagnet- ically below TN =1.3 K and presents large magnetocrystalline anisotropy due to the crystal-field effects. The obtained magnetic phase diagram is charac- terized by two distinct magnetically ordered phases similarly to structurally re- lated tetragonal RTX5 and R2TX8 compounds. The zero-field antiferromagnetic phase is characterized by the propagation vector k = (1 2 00) and antiferromag- netic coupling of Nd moments along the teragonal c-axis with the amplitude of magnetic moments of 2.22 µB/Nd as was revealed by neutron diffraction. The transition from the paramagnetic to magnetically ordered in zero field is the first-order phase transition. The CF excitations in NdPd5Al2 were detected by means of INS at 3.0 meV, 7.4 meV, 8.6 meV and 17.1 meV. We further compare our findings about CF in NdPd5Al2 obtained from INS, susceptibility analysis and first-principles calculations and confront them with the experimental mag- netization and magnetic specific heat data. Determination of crystal field parameters in selected tetragonal compounds

The thesis deals with a crystal electric field and its effect on magnetic properties of the in- termetalic tetragonal rare-earth compounds. Using the self-flux method we have prepared single crystals of two R2TIn8 type compounds, namely Nd2RhIn8 and Nd2IrIn8. These compounds or- der antiferromagnetically in low-temperature region. We have verified a proper structure through EDX analysis, X-ray powder diffraction and Laue diffraction method. Calculations of the crystal field parametres based on experimental magnetic susceptibilities data were performed. Apart from Nd2RhIn8, we have computed crystal field parameters for isostructural Nd2CoIn8 and Dy2CoIn8 compounds and cerium compound CeCuAl3. These compounds are studied simultaneously at our department.

Abstract: The thesis is focused on the correlation of the magnetic response of iron oxide nanoparticles (NPs) with their internal structure. Several complementary methods were used and compared that bring insight into the relative crystallinity of the investigated NPs. The main goal was devoted to the elucidation of the origin of the so-called spin canting angle determined by In-field Mössbauer Spectroscopy (IFMS) by examination of samples with different internal structure. It has been observed that the IFMS is not an unambiguous method to study the surface effects in the NPs as the IFMS is sensitive only to the average value of all spins and does not distinguish between the surface and core effects. Moreover, the IFMS was performed on the epsilon phase of the iron(III) oxide NPs in order to inspect the peculiar behavior of this phase in an external magnetic field. Structure and magnetic interactions in nanomaterials with application potential

The thesis is focused on the physics of magnetic nanoparticles (NPs), starting from the solution of magnetic structure, internal alignment within the single particle and role of interactions and particle structure in magnetic response of systems of the NPs. Moreover, the macroscopic arrangement of the NPs and its effect on the properties of system containing the NPs are discussed. The work brings several new results and concepts, such as the solution of magnetic structure of the ε-Fe2O3 phase, methods of proper detection and description of magnetic metal catalyst in carbon nanotubes and role of the NP arrangement and their effect on graphene placed on the top of substrates decorated with the NPs. 1

Mgr Pavel Javorský, Dr., Department of Condensed Matter Physics Abstract: Thanks to presence of only one electron in 4f shell of cerium ion, Ce based compounds reveal wide range of exceptional magnetic properties like valence fluctuations, magnetic ordering or spin glass behavior. In present thesis we mainly focus on tetragonal CeCuxAl4-x system and its magnetic behavior. Former results of inelastic neutron experiments opened discussion about energy levels of cerium ions in CeCuAl3. Except two crystal field excitations also one additional energy level was present, phenomenon of vibron quasi-bound state was proposed to explain observed energy structure. Measurement and analysis of specific heat and neutron inelastic scattering on compounds with various Cu content should help to understand phenomenon of vibron state and also its development with Cu/Al concentration. Another two types of cerium compounds will be investigated in means of specific heat and resistivity measurement, polycrystalline sample of CePt4Al and single crystal of Ce3Ru4Al12. Electronic structure and magnetic properties of the materials with strong electron-electron correlation

In this thesis, we summarize the material-specific theories of strongly correlated systems and apply them to selected materials. We describe and apply the corre- lated band theory methods: the local density approximation plus Coulomb U, and the density functional theory plus exact diagonalization of single impurity An- derson model. First, we investigate the systems containing impurity atoms: cobalt impurity located in the bulk copper and samarium, and neodymium adatoms on the surface of graphene. We present the spectral densities and study the magnetism of those compounds. Afterwards, we analyze three Np-based compounds: NpPt2In7, Np2Ni17 and NpBC. For all three compounds we analyze the spin, orbital and to- tal magnetic moments and the total density of states, as well as its projections for selected orbitals and spins. Moreover, for NpPt2In7 and NpBC we perform the to- tal energy analysis between different magnetic moment arrangements on the Np atoms.
Solved Problems in Electromagnetism for Electronic Collection

This thesis is a follow-up to several bachelor and diploma theses which were dedicated to creating solved problems for Electronic Collection of Solved Problems in Electromagnetism. The first goal of this thesis was to make a short survey about electronic resources in electromagnetism, especially those which contain solved problems and provide open access to their contents. The second goal was to make a small collection of solved problems in this area which would be suitable for undergraduate students and which would fill in chapters with little amount of problems in the Electronic Collection. This Electronic Collection is openly accesible on the website of Department of Physics Education. Total of 30 solved problems have been made in this thesis, including hints, detailed solutions and suitable pictures. Methodical comments are also available for almost all problems.
Theory of spin-dependent transport in magnetic solids

of doctoral thesis Theory of spin-dependent transport in magnetic solids David Wagenknecht Department of Condensed Matter Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University 2019 Theoretical and ab initio description of realistic material behavior is complicated and combinations of various scattering mechanisms or temperature effects are often neglected, although experimental samples contain impurities and modern electronics work at finite temperatures. In order to remove these knowledge gaps, the alloy analogy model is worked out in this thesis and implemented within the fully relativistic tight- binding linear-muffin-tin orbital method with the coherent potential approximation. This first-principles framework is shown to be robust and computationally efficient and, consequently, employed to investigate bulk solids and their spintronic applications. Unified effect of phonons, magnons, and alloying gives agreement with literature for temperature-dependent electrical transport (longitudinal and anomalous Hall resistivities) and scattering mechanisms are explained from electronic structures. Moreover, novel data help to identify defects in real samples and experimentally hardly accessible quantities are presented, such as spin polarization of electrical current. Kooperativní jevy v cerových sloučeninách na hranici magnetismu

This work reports on physical properties of a novel CeCo0.715Si2.285 compound. The compound crystallizes in the I-4m2 space group structure with extremely elongated unit cell (a = 4.13˚A , c = 32.84˚A) containing BaAl4 structural patterns. In zero magnetic field it orders antiferromagnetically at TN = 10.0K. Under application of magnetic field along the c-axis it manifests numerous magnetic transitions in small fields (B < 0.5T), resembling the so-called 'devil's staircase' behaviour (e.g. CeSb, CeCoGe3). The magnetization is almost constant from 1T up to 45T for H||c but considerably reduced (0.3µB/Ce) with respect to the free Ce3+ ion. For fields applied along the a-axis typical behaviour for a hard axis in a material with uniaxial anisotropy is observed. The performed single crystal neutron diffraction experiment did not allow complete determination of magnetic structure. 1
Axial magnetic bearing as a passive vibration damper

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to design a mathematical model describing the damping effects of a prototype passive axial magnetic bearing. The prototype consists of three permanent axial magnets, the two outer ones are stators and are connected to the base, the middle magnet works as a rotor. Part of the work was a research on the topic of vibration dampers and their mathematical models. An experimental measurement of the dependence of the response of the axial deflection of the rotor on the axial load of the shaft was performed on a prototype bearing. The approach to creating a mathematical model was divided into two parts. First, the geometry of the bearing was simulated using the finite element method programme FEMM and the dependence of the force acting on the rotor magnet as a function of its deflection was determined. In the second part, the permanent magnets were replaced by conductive loops, for which the dependence of the magnitude of the power dissipation on their mutual deflection was compiled by the gradual derivation from the known equations. By connecting these two parts, an equation of motion was created for the middle loop or magnet. Using the Matlab and Simulink programs, this equation was simulated and then the results were compared with experimental measurements. Finally, the measurement and suitability of the mathematical model were evaluated.
