The future of cinema industry after the corona crisis
Bláha, Richard ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The role of the cinema industry has got stuck between a rock and a hard place lately. Before the corona crisis, cinemas were at its peak in the year 2019. Even if the corona crisis wouldn't happen, the decline of the industry was expected. But since the corona crisis came, streaming platforms were on the rise which hurt cinemas in a way from which they might not recover in the future. During the corona crisis, the cinema industry ceased completely. On the other hand, streaming services were in the spotlight. The corona crisis is for the most part over which means that cinemas are slowly gaining back its strength again. The goal of this thesis is to find out whether cinemas will or will not recover to its former state, whether they will be able to coexist next to the streaming services and if blockbusters will be the only movies to be shown in cinemas while the movies of a smaller budget will find its home on the streaming services. In order to find that out, I'm going to write about the role of cinemas and streaming services throughout the years, I'm going to compare the cinema box office before and after the corona crisis with the increase of subscribers of streaming services and I'm going to present the readers with opinions of both the moviegoers and industry professionals and also with...

Sports and Relaxation Centre Za Lužánkami, Brno
Julínek, Roman ; Kotek, arch Jakub (referee) ; Odvárka, Antonín (advisor)
The architectural-urban study of the sports and recreational centre Za Lužánkami in Brno deals with the complex design of the sports and recreational complex. At present, the area of the former Boby Centre is in a poor condition. Fully functioning buildings in the area are a hotel, a concert hall and a tennis hall with outdoor courts, while the remaining buildings and areas, led by the football stadium, are dilapidated and do not fulfil their potential for public life. I approached the assignment as a solution to a complicated problem with many variables. The design provides a clear definition and morphology of the buildings, living, sports and recreational areas, including green spaces. It helps to social interaction and induce new contacts between people. It addresses the needs of current and future generations of residents. Connects and links to the transport infrastructure of the neighbourhood at all levels. Refers to the past and thus preserves in all respect the famous sporting genius of the locus to which it adds its own distinctive added value. Based on the design concept, a study has been carried out that takes advantage of a quality site in an attractive location in the city and offers a range of sports and recreational facilities. The main idea behind the design was to connect and relate the area to its surroundings. To offer a high quality public realm that will appeal to as many residents as possible across all generations through its range of functions and focus. Proportionate to its size and importance, several masses and objects were designed to divide the large area into smaller interconnected units. Each area has its own face, its own content and its own typical atmosphere that will win over its users. A good public space can be recognised by the way its users treat it. It becomes a mirror of society. If the design listens to the wishes and needs of the majority of the inhabitants, it becomes useful and sustainable at any time.
Cultural Centre of Velké Němčice
Tomašáková, Alexandra ; Krettová, Eva (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the design of a new cultural center in the village of Velké Němčice. It is located right in the historic center of the village. The current building of the cultural house does not sufficiently serve its purpose and its revitalization is necessary. The building, built in the 1960s, is one of many cultural facilities of this type. Over time, various extensions were added to the site, which are responsible for the incomplete appearance of the building. The aim of the work was to check the possibilities of designing a new cultural center that would better serve the people od Velké Němčice. It can be an example of how to deal with this type of building, which is located in all corners of the Czech Republic. Emphasis is placed on the functionality and variability of spaces, which should create a multi-purpose cultural background of the village with a community character. It should be the best place for the locals and their hobbies and clubs. The building also responds to the context of the structure of the village and tries to integrate into its surroundings. The proposal was also preceded by an urban study of the village center itself and its square, which is also the cultural center of the village where its social life take place. The multifunctional cultural and educational center includes many new functions that should help the further development of Velké Němčice.
1981 Irish Hunger Strike in Cinema
Kolínová, Kristýna ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Matějka, Ondřej (referee)
The hunger strike of Irish republican prisoners in 1981 that was held in Maze/Long Kesh prison in Northern Ireland was the culmination of a protest against the abolition of Special Category Status for convicted paramilitary prisoners. Ten men starved themselves to death. The events related to the hunger strike are not forgotten to this day and still arouse disputes in the society. This thesis focuses on the analysis of popular feature films whose main theme is the hunger strike in Northern Ireland. On a theoretical level, the thesis uses the concept of collective memory which is described in more detail and applied to the issues of cinema in the first part of the thesis. The second chapter briefly presents historical context: the hunger strike itself and also its legacy today. The last and the most important part of the text deals with three movies, namely Some Mother's Son (1996), H3 (2001) and Hunger (2008) which are compared with regard to the origin of their authors, the selection of specific aspects of the historical events and time of their creation. Besides a summary of the main findings, there is also an outline of how filmmakers generally work with the theme of hunger strike in the conclusion.

The Town Tábor in the era of the "Prague's spring" and in the beginning of normalisation (1968-1970)
Rozkydalová, Pavla ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Hlaváček, Jiří (referee)
The paper primarily aims to depict the cultural life in the district city of Tábor against a background of the 1968 - 1970 historical events. The author describes, against the historical background, the individual cultural events and the life of the city, as well as the influence of political events which had the result that the city, and indeed the entire country, returned to the era preceding the "golden sixties". Employing the method of oral history, the author has interviewed narrators who had a proactive relationship to the cultural events in the city. Their testimonies were used as a basis for selecting topics which illustrate the cultural movement in the late 1960s as a period of liberalisation ending with normalisation which suppressed the cultural development of the city; the author especially invokes those events which were irreconcilable with the subsequent political developments in the country. The paper also refers to other resources which outline the atmosphere of the era, namely resources provided by the political authorities of the city and the Tábor City Chronicle. Using the testimonies provided by the narrators and the archival resources, the author has endeavoured to paint the most accurate picture of the atmosphere surrounding the events happening in the city in the said period....
Against adaptation: toward transdisciplinarity and minor cinema
Petříková, Linda ; Roraback, Erik Sherman (advisor) ; Nováková, Soňa (referee) ; Burt, Richard (referee)
Against Adaptation: Toward Transdisciplinarity and Minor Cinema Linda Petříková Abstract Over the past decades, the field adaptation studies has been trying to break new grounds and escape the confines of the predominant fidelity discourse. This thesis wants to propose new perspectives that have been widely underrepresented, at least in the Anglo-American context, drawing attention to the great relevance to adaptation of the writings of French critical thinkers, most notably Gilles Deleuze and his two-volume publication on cinema and Jacques Rancière and his continuation/reevaluation of Deleuze's film-related concepts. Without directly addressing questions of adaptation, the way both philosophers think about cinema is inseparable from their thinking about literature and indeed about other arts and media, exemplifying new transdisciplinary approaches to adaptation this thesis hopes to encourage. Even though it might seem counterintuitive, considering the efforts of adaptation studies to cut the roots it has grown within literary departments, I chose three Shakespearean adaptations for the case studies as I believe that such focus will enable us to see more clearly the significance of interstices as much as of the links the films form with the text. Jean-Luc-Godard's King Lear, Orson Welles's Chimes at...
