Searching for the place of man in the universe in the work of Emanuel Rádl and Milan Machovec
Nezbeda, Tomáš ; Čapek, Jakub (referee) ; Kohák, Erazim (advisor)
This paper tries to search for the place of a man in the universe. For this purpose, the author decided to compare some of the key works of two major Czech philosophers, namely Emanuel Rádl and Milan Machovec. This paper is intended to offer the int roduction to the work of these two philosophers and/or to two philosophical t rends in the modern Czech philosophy. The fi rst chapter deals with methods of the philosophical work of both authors. It also describes the basic points of their questioning, as wel l as intentions they wished to achieve through this questioning. The second chapter focuses on the place of a man in the universe as perceived by Emanuel Rádl; the thi rd chapter analyses the same theme as presented in the work of Milan Machovec. The purpose of the fourth chapter is to present comparison of the main thoughts of the two preceding chapters, and to come to the intentions of this paper indicated above. This theme inter alia offers not only the insight into the contemporary Czech philosophy, but also the insight into the issues of the present life of a man and the society.

Incompatibilities: the possibility of engagement in contemporary literary theory
Černovský, Pavel ; Procházka, Martin (referee) ; Armand, Louis (advisor)
To relate question of literature, or art in general, to any notion of engagement represents a number of problems. Probably the first is the problem, manifested in the development of the avant-garde, that engagement no matter how openly defined would nevertheless end in a subordination of art to politics, accompanied by politics usurping the right to define what is art. As Theda Shapiro in her account of the relation between politics and avant-garde art points out, at the beginning: "Many artists tacitly and somewhat naively assumed that, since art has been revolutionary before the Revolution, avant-garde artists would intuitively understand what was now needed and respond to the new economic and social situation."l However, this did not prove to be the case. To a certain surprise, the initial belief that "The fine phrase 'free, unpolitical art' is not meant for you"2 has not lead to a natural and spontaneous co-operation of artists and politicians. Instead, the claim of art being necessarily part of politics in a very wide sense was soon seen to be seized by the increasingly bureaucratic apparatus pursuing "ideological needs of the moment,"3 only to be in the end transformed into a doctrine by the "1932 proclamation of 'socialist realism' as the only officially accepted art form."4 To relate literature to...

The purpose of this thesis was to analyze the artistic depiction of "little" Czech Man in the work of Karel Polácek. The thesis is separated into five chapters. The first chapter focuses on the life and personality of Karel Polácek and states the basic feature of his works. In the second chapter I examine the question how the "little" Czech hero behaves in the Karel Polácek's contemporaries works. The third chapter emphasize on the humor of Karel Polácek and his involvement in Czech humoristic literature. The fourth chapter examines the works of Polácek as literature humoristic, satirical, literature with Jewish themes, humorous and devoted to country life. This part presents the basic characteristics of the work and the main characters, supported by quotations from the book. The last one, fifth chapter turns attention to the aging of language and text in the works of Karel Polácek. The goal of this analysis is to demonstrate the timelessness of the author's literary characters. Further, I devote to the question "how the text speaks to us today". At the conclusion I briefly summarize subtopics, knowledge and experience I gained during my research.

Beginning of the Angolan colonial war-its reflection on the press and literature before the year 1989
Kodíčková, Kateřina ; Míšková, Alena (advisor) ; Šarochová, Gabriela (referee)
During its first months. the Czechoslovakian press printed almost daily news about the colonial war in Angola (1961 - 1975). The news coverage is analysed and compared to the literature edited during the socialist regime and also with contemporary international literature. As a result of the comparison we were able to appreciate how as the conflict matured and became better known internationally. the coverage became more biased. In the beginning seems like the editors don't know hO\,v each actor in the war is aligned with the international powers and gives a rather impartial account of the events. Gradually the positions are clarified and propaganda gains more weight in the news. 104

Transportation and education in it as a reflection of transportation literacy in south-west Bohemia
KREJČÍ, Jan
The main object of this work on the topic {\clqq}Transportation and education in it as a reflection of transportation literacy in south-west Bohemia`` is to analyse condition of transportation literacy in a segment of academic students in this region. The development level of education in transportation, traffic coverage, the development level of means of transportation and services are conditions for transportation literacy. These are also analysed in this work. Two hypotheses were determined. The current condition of the traffic coverage is not satisfactory in this region. The education in the transportation is not embedded in a school programme, however the literacy in the chosen segment is at a good level. The situation analysis of this region based on the collection of information and their process was realized. Then the oral interview followed and questionaries were evaluated. The hypotheses were mostly confirmed on the basis of the research and situation analysis. Own recommendations for improving of the current condition were suggested. It could be for example including needful number of microbuses into the fleet of regional transporter. These microbuses would provide transportation coverage of the region in places with a low population density where establishment of classic bus lines would not be economic.

Antidysrrhythmic drugs in the treatment of life-threatening dysrrhythmias
Tůmová, Klára ; Hrdina, Radomír (advisor) ; Tilšer, Ivan (referee)
AABBSSTTRRAACCTT Sudden death caused by a serious arrhythmia is quite common in the developed countries. Although pharmacotherapy is not the intervention of choice for patients who suffer from arrhythmia accompanied by serious objective symptoms (hypoxia, hypotension, chest pain), it plays an important role as an adjunct to non-pharmacological intervention in cases, when the intervention did not have the desired effect itself. Even as prevention of new arrhythmic episodes pharmacotherapy gives more and more place to radiofrequency ablation and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD). It is an alternative to invasive intervention when this is not indicated for any reason and a useful adjunct to ICD in patients with frequent arrhythmic episodes requiring a discharge. Searching for patients at risk of a serious arrhythmia, especially for primary prevention, is of limited potentials. Results of presently used tests have limited predictive value, in addition to this many abnormal findings are not prognostically important for otherwise healthy persons. Those findings can have certain significance when found in patients with structural heart disease or rare genetic arrhythmogenic syndromes. This work reviews contemporary possibilities of treatment and prevention of arrhythmias including new methods. The...

Issues of structure Det + N1N2 in contemporary Portuguese
Matějovicová, Jitka ; Tláskal, Jaromír (advisor) ; Jindrová, Jaroslava (referee)
The aim ofthis work is to divide and analyse the structure Det + N1N2 in contemporary Portuguese. Hence we deal with expressions consisting oftwo side-byside substantives, which are not connected by preposition (cf. a palavra-chave, o navioescola, o Estado-nar;ďo ou o cantor/poeta; o Prémio Nobel). These structures are relatively frequent in spoken as well as in written language and they contribute considerably to the enrichment ofvocabulary. We can consider them as compounds or simple nominal groups, sometimes they are analysed within the framework of transposition. Authors, who apply themselves to the issue of compounds, usually deal with the distinction between compounds and simple nominal groups and with creation of criteria for their typology and c1assification. Those who study the structure in terms of transposition focus on transition of expression in the N2 position from the c1ass of substantives to the c1ass of adjectives. Generally we can say that iťs possible to find several theoretical attitudes, which blend together in some aspects and differ in others. Thaťs why we introduce in the first part different conceptions of the structure Det + N1N2 in contemporary Portuguese. In addition to the work ofPortuguese linguists we also take into consideration works ofFrench and Czech experts. In the...

The Development of Orientalism and its Form in the Contemporary World
Přibáňová, Tereza ; Balon, Jan (advisor) ; Horák, Vít (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with problems of orientalism, which is considered primarily in Edward Said's definition as a power discourse in which knowledge about the Orient is created. Even today, Westerners have to rely solely on mediated information about Orient, which can be quite misleading. The thesis first defines different meanings of orientalism and the categories of West and East. The thesis presents development of orientalism in its pre- modern and modern or academic form, including criticism of Said's concept. Critique of orientalism is currently included in postcolonial criticism, therefore there is a chapter on postcolonial criticism as well, which includes part about relationship of sociology to this issue. In conclusion is discussed occidentalism, which is often seen as the opposite of orientalism, but it isn't entirely accurate. Also is analyzed the contemporary form of orientalism, which is associated mainly with attitude of the Western world (mainly U.S.) to the Islamic countries.

Kasperová, Jana ; Císařová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Vokoun, Rudolf (referee)
The topic of my thesis is Legal Status of a Victim of Domestic Violence. It is devoted to domestic violence as a contemporary phenomenon and to the legal status of its victim. The purpose of the thesis is to analyse relevant Czech legislation and compare it with the real needs of a victim of such treatment. It attempts to give to the reader a comprehensive overview of this topic and also to suggest some amends aiming at better protection of the victim of domestic violence. Chapter one is called The concept of a domestic violence: explanation and is subdivided into five parts. The first part deals with the definition of the concept and its elements. Part four suggests that not only women may be victims of domestic violence and deals with selected specific aspects of situations when men, children or elderly people become victims of domestic violence. The last part of the first chapter is about victimization. Chapter two deals with the means of protection of a victim of...

Thesis deals with the topic of the financing of the presidential election campaign. In its first part is pointed out the position of President in the Czech Republic and the legislation his choices, both with efficiency up to 2012 (indirect election of the President), and especially with effect after 2012 (direct election of the President).
