Current Legal Issues of Bank Regulation - Resume This thesis paper deals with issues that can be found in relation with bank regulation. At present, globalized world, banks as important financial intermediaries play a major role. Banks are present in our daily lives and whether or not we want to, they facilitate our everyday operations with the money, investment of free monetary resources, and also borrowing of money. We got accustomed to the convenience that the use of various banking services provides. Equally important are the services of banks for businesses enterprises, various investment companies and funds, and also the countries themselves (the governments). Failure of this system, now that so many subjects are dependent on it, could have far-reaching negative consequences. The bank regulation and its instruments serve as a protection against the rise of adverse consequences. With the growing importance of banks in our society, the importance of their regulation grows as well. But even this may not represent perfect protection and bank regulation may conceal other unforeseen problems. Sustainability of the pension reform in Slovakia
Lišková, Martina ; Janotík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Dózsa, Martin (referee)
This paper explores the sustainability of pension system in Slovakia on the local institutional, socio- economic and political background, analyzing the past and current reforms and their impact on public finance. In the first, theoretical part of the paper, the World Bank strategy is sketched out to provide general framework for sustainability of reforms and their goals, and actual past reforms that took place in Slovakia from 2004 until present are dissected. These reforms are most notable for their reorientation from pure pay-as-you-go system to combined PAYG and fully funded system. While this step alleviates the crushing implicit social security debt to some extent, it is shown that not even the latest reforms alone will suffice to cover the increasing burden of the pension system on public spending. Therefore, in the empirical part of the paper, several parametric reforms are proposed and are analyzed from long term perspective (until 2100) using the World Bank PROST economic model. These scenarios approximately represent some of the reforms currently on the table that could be carried out in the near future. The varying inputs are retirement age, the contribution rate for the fully funded system, the replacement rate, the affiliation rate and the type of valorization, with the output being...

Assessment of hedge fund replication strategies
Kollár, Martin ; Dědek, Oldřich (advisor) ; Derviz, Alexis (referee)
Hedge funds are investment vehicles that provide solid risk-adjusted performance in various stages of market cycle and that are not strongly correlated to the markets they transact in. The profits from hedge funds were for a long time available only to high net-worth individuals or institutional investors, who could bear the possible negative effects of a serious downturn of the fund. The recent development in the hedge fund industry however leans toward the exploitation of hedge fund returns by a wider range of investors. Many hedge fund databases and investment banks have thus created different hedge fund indices and hedge fund clones that would replicate the exposures of hedge funds with smaller fees and smaller investment requirements. Our analysis showed that the development of such products has advanced into more promising stages, when new approaches are used to better replicate the hedge fund returns. A current account is a deposit account held at a bank or other financial institution in order to provide for its holder a secure and quick access to deposited funds on demand and to carry out operations with the monetary funds on the account.
