Republican foreign policy and the war on terror
Skoupý, Jiří ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
The diploma thesis "Republican Foreign Policy and the War in Iraq" deals with the process of U.S. foreign policymaking from the perspective of the ruling Republican Party between 2003 and 2007. It tracks the development of the intraparty debate on the war in Iraq in reaction to the gradually worsening security situation in the country. It analyzes positions of various schools of thoughts within the American conservative movement and the changing configuration of power in American politics in the studied period. The thesis aims to explain why the Iraq policies of the Bush administration remained virtually intact up until January 2007 despite failing to deliver satisfactory results and what factors shaped this outcome of the conservative debate on Iraq. Three hypotheses are offered to answer the research questions. The first concerns President Bush's management style and the setup of the policymaking process within his administration. The second deals with the global war on terror narrative constructed in the aftermath of 9/11 and its impact on American political discourse. And the third analyzes the use of foreign policy and national security issues as an electoral wedge issue by the Republican Party.

Political Economy of European Security: A Role of Industrialists in forming the ESDP
Vacík, Lukáš ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Bureš, Oldřich (referee)
The thesis aims to determine the scope and extent of the European defence industrial sector influence on the process of European defence formation, or more precisely in the field of defence and security cooperation (ESDP/CSDP). The question of the European defence sector's role in shaping the defence and security cooperation in Europe has not been properly explored, thereby it provides an ideal topic of choice for my thesis, The thesis is divided into three main parts: the introduction, the analysis consisting of five sections and finally the conclusion. The thesis analyzes an industrial sector itself, while exploring the process of creation of internal market within the framework of the Roundtable of European Industrialist initiative. It then moves on to discuss the European military industrial complex and it argues for the need to introduce a new term "European Defence Industrialists" in order to improve our understanding of defence cooperation in the EU. As for the thesis theoretical approach, a classical IR theoretical approach in general and classical theoretical take on European integration have proved insufficient. Therefore, the thesis explores the specific environment of European industrial sector with the aid of the liberal economics approaches. In so doing, it establishes that liberal...

Miloš Urban versus literary reviewers
Prokop, Daniel ; Jonáková, Anna (advisor) ; Halada, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis analyze works of contemporary czech prose-writer Miloš Urban and response of literary critics to Urban's novels. The papers are focused on three novels, in particular: Sedmikostelí (1999), Stín katedrály (2003) and Santiniho jazyk (2005). Gothic and gothic-baroque architecture play essential role in all of them, so they are defined as "architectural trilogy". The thesis distinguish two components of Urbans postmodern novels: high-art and low-art. The aim of the study is to analyze both of them. The high-art component of Urban's novels is a dualism of racionality and iracionaility, modern and traditional society. The low-art component of his work is a brutality, a violence and homicedes. Two central reviewers hypotheses are presented and discussed: a) the philosophy of Urban's novels is just a postmodern mystification, b) the fuction of the low-art component is taken from horror and detective stories. Theory of Decision Making in Public Law and Private Law Corporations
Broulík, Jan ; Kühn, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Tryzna, Jan (referee)
2 Jan Broulík - Theory of Decision Making in Public Law and Private Law Corporations Abstract The thesis analyses Czech legal regulations concerning decision making in bodies of corporations. For the purposes of this analysis it employs mainly the apparatus of the economic analysis of law. Its basic concepts are also outlined. The author focuses on two kinds of legal entities which are public universities and joint stock companies. The ethical-legal connections and the significance of corporate governance in the decision making domain are presented. The analysis of the legal norms shows how reasons of the economic analysis of law correspond with provisions regulating body elections, body competence allocation and the body decision making procedure. The criterion for evaluating the quality of legal norms is effectiveness, meaning an increase of social wealth. The main detected imperfections are a missing provision allowing a long distance voting for joint stock companies' general meetings, a missing tool for the cases where a shareholder breaches his loyalty duty which leads to not passing of a general meeting decision and the mandatory nature of the duty of care. Judicial decisions important for joint stock companies' decision making are presented. These decisions concern with the decision making of a sole...

Optical fiber point sensors
Okoun, Petr ; Čučka, Milan (referee) ; Urban, František (advisor)
This diploma thesis analyzes a structure of spot optical sensors with longitudinal grid and multiple Bragg grating and possibilities of spot optical sensors use and implementation in the industry. Basic principles of light propagation through optical environment are described in the introduction part, followed by description of phenomena in optical fibers and sensors. The distribution of fiber optic sensors and the use of optic fiber in spot mode is described further. The optical sensor system is designed on the basis of analysis with description of its construction at the end of this work. A significant part is devoted to the analysis of longitudinal structures in the fiber in response to multiple Bragg gratings, their subsequent manufacture and suggestion of use in sensors industry.

Simple Character Recognition
Duba, Nikolas ; Svoboda, Pavel (referee) ; Polok, Lukáš (advisor)
This thesis is focused on optical character recognition and its processing. The goal of this application is to make it possible easily track daily expenses. It can be used by an individual or by a company as a monitoring tool. The main principle is to make this tool most as user friendly as it can be. The application gets its input from hardware, such as a scanner or camera, and analyzes the content of the cash voucher for further processing. To analyze the voucher, the application employs different optical character recognition methods. The result is subsequently parsed. Detailed explanations of used methods are inside the document. The application output is a filled database with cash voucher details. Another part of the work is an information system with the main purpose of displaying the collected data.

Optical network FTTH
Horníček, Lukáš ; Dostál, Otto (referee) ; Filka, Miloslav (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis „Optical Network FTTH“ is a theoretical and practical analysis of problems of optical access networks with respect to current and prospective trends in the construction and operation of these networks. For the clearness of thesis done divided into 6 chapters. The first five chapters deal with the optical access networks at a theoretical level with a touch of practical knowledge in the academic analysis. The first chapter deals with general concepts networks FTTH and defines the reasons for their occurrence. The second thematic chapter specifies an individual topology implemented in optical networks FTTH, their advantages and disadvantages with respect to transfer capacity and the economic-competitive potential of the network. It is defined by a principled division of optical networks in the active and passive with the definition of network architectures, communication models and protocols. The individual architectures are evaluated for suitability in the deployment of networks FTTH. The third and fourth thematic chapters inform readers with the passive and active access network FTTH infrastructure. Passive infrastructure examines the method of construction used in the past decades and the latest technology microtubing that this networks concept prevailed. The fifth thematic chapter provides Triple Play services and reasons for using these services just for FTTH optical networks. The sixth chapter is a crucial element in this thesis. Results and knowledge acquired in previous chapters is applied to real network model. It is defined by imaginary the village "Fektákov" for which they are created by three case studies covering technical and economic documentation for the realization of a real access FTTH network. This allows compare the modern ways of realization network infrastructure, including central office and subscriber terminal equipment. The results of these three case studies, conclusions are drawn that highlight the strengths and weaknesses of these architectures and also suggest the quality and reliability of these networks and the expected future prospects of development. Conclusion of the thesis is an evaluation of all evidence obtained in this work reflects the author's view on current and expected future developments in optical access networks leading its optical fiber to homes or apartments of all households.
