The "Non-citizen" Issue in Latvia during the EU Accession Process
Kofránková, Alžběta ; Švec, Luboš (advisor) ; Vykoukal, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to examine the attitude of the European Union to the non- citizen issue in Latvia during the accession talks and its impact on legislative changes in Latvia in this area. The thesis asks such questions as whether Latvia has fulfilled all formal and informal criteria of the accession to the European Union concerning non-citizens and whether the recommendations that were part of the European Commission's regular reports were effective. Further I would like to answer the question how important the other two international bodies were, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the Council of Europe, and to what extent the European Union was dependent on their recommendations. Using primary and secondary sources, I will try to show that the main aim of the reports was to improve the situation of non-citizens in Latvia, bringing in the standards of the European Union. Becoming a member of the European Union, Latvia has theoretically fulfilled the required conditions; the question is what the situation has been like in practice.

The second chapter describes the transformation of the constitutional status of Canada and Quebec within Canada. ZEMANOVÁ, Irena
Migration as a social process is a response to more or less complex economic, environmental, social and cultural conditions of human existence. Migration reasons have changed through history. With regard to gradual population aging, migration to the Czech Republic in the following years is not only probable, this is inevitable. Lifestyle is a major factor determinating health status and quality of life. Lifestyle is one of health determinants we can influence. The theoretical part of the thesis is divided into 9 chapters. The compilation is based on monograpfic publications, professional journals and electronic sources usage. The chapters of the thesis deal with the issue of immigrants and asylum seekers, migration in the Czech Republic and migration in general, they give an account of minorities living in the Czech Republic, describe their integration, outline the problems associated with emigration and the impact of emigration on psychological and health status of an individual The asylum procedure and lifestyle factors are also mentioned. The empirical part is focused on the research of lifestyle of immigrants and asylum seekers in the Czech Republic and in their countries of origin. The objective of the thesis is to compare lifestyles of immigrants and asylum seekers in the Czech Republic and in their countries of origin. The research took place in the town of České Budějovice, the subregion of the South Bohemian region. Questionnaire method was used to collect the research data. The questionnaire was anonymous and contained 25 questions. The introductory questions were focused on respondents´ identification data, through other questions lifestyle factors and health status were investigated. Total 100 questionnaires were distributed to the institutions providing assistance to immigrants and asylum seekers. 55 questionnaires were filled in and returned, the return rate was 55%. The objective of the thesis was accomplished, the lifestyle of immigrants and asylum seekers in the Czech Republic in the South Bohemian region was compared to that in their countries of origin. In my opinion it is very important to focus on foreigners integration into the Czech society, because integration does not only mean for foreigners to get rid of their habits, but may also enrich our society. People come to our country in search of better living conditions and want to start a new life here. Therefore it should be part of state policy to ensure equal access and equal opportunities for immigrants. I suppose I could be beneficial to make foreigners familiar with the current situation in the Czech Republic and to draw their attention to difficulties they may encounter while seeking a better life.

The Teschen region in Czech-Polish relations
Štoková, Daniela ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Krines, Vlastimil (referee)
In the main part of the thesis the conflict between Czechoslovakia and Poland over Teschen Silesia (1918-1945) is being analyzed and its impacts on the climate of Czech-Polish relations considered. Nevertheless, the whole issue is set into the frame of current events on the international political scene and is regarded not only as a regional matter but as one of the fundamental problems of international relations -- a conflict between two states over a border territory motivated by strategic and economic intentions. From the theoretical point of view, the conflict is applied on the methodology published in Waisová, Š.: Řešení konfliktů v mezinárodních vztazích.Further on the thesis deals with the current situation in the Teschen region with the emphasis on the position of the Polish national minority. That is supported by a survey focused on the quality of coexistence of various national groups in the region.
