Support health literacy in the elderly

Theoretical part of the thesis: The diploma thesis deals with the issue of health literacy with regard to its support for the elderly. Areas for explanation of this issue and the possibilities for health literacy are included in this work. In particular, we speak of the right motivation of the seniors, the education and the possibilities of education for seniors. What is also important is the activation that we can develop the capabilities and skills of the seniors. Aims: For the practical part of the thesis, one aim was set, to which 5 hypotheses belong. Aim: To describe how seniors support health literacy. Hypotheses: 1st The level of support for health literacy is affected by the health of the senior. 2nd Women are more interested in gaining information by visiting Days of Health than men. 3rd The method of promoting health literacy is different for seniors up to 70 years old and seniors over 70 years of age. 4th Senior citizens with higher levels of health literacy support consider health information from healthcare professionals to be more useful than older people with lower levels of health literacy support. 5th Men use Universities of the Third Age to promote health literacy more than women. Methodology: In the practical part of this thesis, a quantitative research was chosen in the form of structured interviews. A total of 23 questions were compiled, including identification data. The research team consisted of 100 elderly over 65 years of age from the South Bohemian Region, who, on the basis of their addressing and their voluntary decision, answered the given questions. The data obtained was further processed and evaluated. Results: According to the results, women and men have the same interest in Health Days. The level of support for health literacy does not have a different impact on seniors on evaluation of the usefulness of information from healthcare professionals, and men use Universities of the Third Age as well as women. Support for health literacy is influenced by the state of health of the elderly in the field of education, physical activity and adherence to doctor's recommendations. The way of promoting health literacy is different for seniors up to 70 years of age and over 70 years of age in the area of physical activity, information and health care for first aid and accident prevention, oncology prevention, skin protection and healthy eating. Conclusion: It is important to inform the elderly about the possibilities of promoting health literacy and to provide information on health promotion and disease prevention. The output of this work is material for seniors containing this information.
Health literacy employees

The diploma thesis deals with health literacy of employees. Health literacy throughout the Czech Republic is very low. The diploma thesis has one goal: To map the health literacy of the employees. I chose three hypotheses in my research. Hypothesis 1: The expected health literacy of the staff of the selected teams is inadequate. Hypothesis 2: Women show higher levels of health literacy than men. Hypothesis 3: The level of health literacy depends on the level of education. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part defines the concept of health literacy, methods of development of health literacy, health promotion and prevention, including determinants of health and health of the population of the Czech Republic. Part of the work is also devoted to the work environment, risk factors and occupational medical care. The practical part was processed using the quantitative survey method using questionnaires. The data needed for the analysis were obtain from respondents from selected collectives who were informed about the anonymity of the questionnaire survey. The obtained data was processed in MS Excel and SPSS. The results of my work disproved all three hypotheses. Respondents in the research group are health literate, health literacy among the sexes is the same and health literacy is not dependent on the level of education. Work results can serve as a good source of information for the general public or employees and company employers.
The health literacy development of elementary schools

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of the development of health literacy of pupils attending primary schools. In the theoretical part, it focuses on defining the concept of the health literacy, its importance for society, the importance of its development and the consequences of its lack. A literate person is characterized in here, the factors influencing health literacy and the assessment tools, how it could be measured. It also deals with health promotion and health education at primary schools, which are closely related to health literacy. It focuses on the influence on educational system on health literacy of pupils and on health promotion programs at school facilities. It deals with school age, its division, and the pupil's personality in common. At the end of the theoretical part, we discuss how the health literacy can influence nurses. The empirical part of the thesis is aimed at pupils of 7th and 9th grade of elementary schools, who have been inquired about their ability to look up and evaluate healthcare information. The aim has been to determine the level of health literacy of boys and girls and try to find out differences in their level of health literacy depending on the age and size of the city they are live in. A quantitative research survey has been selected to address this issue and identify the objectives set. The data was obtained using the abridged version of the standardized European Health Literacy Questionnaire HLS-EU-Q, namely the HLS-EU-Q16 questionnaire. The research was attended by 208 pupils from two primary schools in Prague and one from Karlovy Vary.
Implementation of health issues in the undergraduate education of teachers

The aim of this thesis is to find out how the future teachers adopt a stance on health and if they are ready to pass the information on health issues of their pupils. Currently reveals how faculty of education prepares future teachers in terms of health issues and his support. The theoretical part devote to teacher's personality, general health issue, but also specifically teacher's health, the determinants of health, the issue of health literacy and burnout. The practical part is focused on research of personal attitudes of future teachers towards health and their awareness in this direction. The outcome of this work is to propose an elective subject, whose inclusion in the program of study at faculties of education can give students the opportunity to obtain the necessary information relating to health in relation to the development of health literacy among students in their future teaching profession.
Health literacy of teachers which is focused on their functioning in the area of nutritious education

The diploma thesis occupies with the health literacy of future and currently practicing teachers. It is focused on one part of the health literacy - nourishment. The aim of the thesis is to find out on which level of the health literacy in nourishment the teachers are and if they apply their knowledge not only in their professional life but also in their personal life. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is focused on the defining of the terms health, health literacy, the characteristic of the group of teachers and their division into subgroups. There are also described the aspects of health nourishment and the recommendation from the experts on the healthy lifestyle. The practical part includes the analysis of the data which were gained thanks to the questionnaires. In the end, the pieces of knowledge are summarized.
The health literacy of pupils in primary school

The thesis looks into the health literacy of pupils at Primary school. The main aim of this work is to compare the pupils's health literacy with the computer literacy at chosen Primary school. To find out the level of knowledge, awareness, attitudes and perceptions of pupils in connection with computer and health literacy. Determine the causes of less interest in physical activities and the link between physical activity and health of pupils. The theoretical part deals with the definition of the basic concepts such as health literacy, computer literacy, healthy living, physical activity, etc… with the help of the specialized literature. This part describes the relationship between the pupil's physical activity, healthy lifestyle and health literacy. The practical part compares the level of student's knowledge in the field of computer and health literacy. It finds out the pupil's knowledge which are linked to beneficial effect of physical activities on human health, too. In this part questionnaires which are intended for children from the selected primary school and deal with primarily the level of knowledge of medical and computer literacy will be elaborated. The thesis follows the theoretical foundation, options and practical application of Education for Health with regards to the growing significance in Person and Health in school educational programmes. The theoretical part focuses on the history and development in the filed of the Education for Health since the 16th century up until the reformation of the czech educational system after 1989. This part also concentrates on the options of fulfilling and understanding the curriculum goals in the current environment in primary schools. The practical part maps the approach of the Education for Health in a specific primary school environment, which focuses on different opinions of the educator, pupils and parents, with emphasis on the qualitative research. Based on the evaluation of the theoretical basis of the curriculum on the one hand and the practical realization of this domain in the selected school on the other hand, the author suggests possible adjustments in the realization of Education for Health in the specific school. Realization of health education at a chosen elementary school

This studie thesis deals with the realization of the educational subject of Health education at chosen elementary school. The aim is to determine attitudes of pupils at chosen elementary school to the educational subject Health Education and to find out how the health education was reflected in a life of pupils at the chosen elementary school and how it influenced their views and attitudes to a healthy lifestyle. The theoretical part deals with the definition of basic concepts, such as health, healthy lifestyles, health literacy. It describes in details within the RVP educational field Man and health. The practical part looks into the attitudes of students at chosen elementary school to the educational subject Health Education and their opinions and attitudes to a healthy lifestyle. Two questionnaires that are intended for children at elementary school will be made in this part. They are primarily oriented on the attitudes to the educational subject Health Education and attitudes to a healthy lifestyle. Health literacy of mothers with premature infant

Health literacy represents the cognitive and social skills which determine the motivation and ability of individuals to gain access to, understand and use information in ways which promote and maintain good health, according to WHO. Common health literacy level may be sufficient in the case of smooth pregnancy and natural childbirth. However, if there are some health problems, it is necessary to support an increase in health literacy level of mothers. Main objective of this thesis is to describe the objective health literacy level of mothers with premature baby and to identify areas that are for these mothers most problematic. The theoretical part deals with demographic data related to premature births, the basic definition of prematurity, an essential characteristic of neonatology and organization of care, premature baby, the most common medical complications and prognosis.
