In the end of this Bachelor thesis there are recapitulated principal consequences of the Soviet decision to solve the situation in Afghanistan by the use of force.

Study of metabolic syndrome in mice model: roles of dietary lipids, adipose tissue and AMP-activated protein kinase
Medříková, Daša ; Kopecký, Jan (advisor) ; Houštěk, Josef (referee) ; Novotný, Jiří (referee)
Obesity and associated metabolic disorders, e. g. metabolic syndrome, represent a considerable health threat for modern society. Due to sedentary lifestyle, high caloric intake and changes in composition of diet, prevalence of obesity is increasing worldwide. One of the possible causes contributing to higher prevalence of obesity in recent population could be the change of fatty acids (FA) composition of dietary lipids, with the shift in the content of n-6 and n-3 FA toward n-6 FA. In contrast to n-6 FA, n-3 FA are known for their anti-atherogenic, anti-obesogenic and anti-inflammatory properties. In our experiments in mice, the capability of naturally occurred and chemically modified n- 3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA) in prevention and reversal of specific parts of metabolic syndrome was demonstrated. A specific chemical derivative of docosahexaenoic acid was proven to be very effective in preventing and improving metabolic conditions of animals exposed to high-fat (HF) diet challenge. Further, the involvement of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a master regulator of lipid metabolism, in skeletal muscle thermogenesis induced by HF-feeding was investigated. Activation of AMPK in the HF-fed mice is most possibly caused by increased leptin levels and represents an important link...

Mycorrhizal and endophytic roots of aquatic plants
Borovec, Ondřej ; Vohník, Martin (advisor) ; Kolařík, Miroslav (referee)
Interactions between fungi and plants can be found all around us. We would hardly find a plant neither containing a single hypha in its rhizosphere nor infested with a fungal pathogen. Whereas interactions of these organisms are well and described in terrestrial ecosystems, situation below the water level is completely different. The status of aquatic fungi and their relation to aquatic plants is to date not clear at all regarding difficulties of reaching them and huge value of terrestric interactions, which occupy most of the experts. All the basic plant-fungus interactions have been detected also underwater. As well as on the land, the most widespread aquatic mycorrhizal association is arbuscular mycorrhiza. On the contrary, the other well known mycorrhiza types such as orchid or ericoid mycorrhiza do not occur in the aquatic environment where their hosts are absent. On the other hand, endophytism is relatively frequent. Ascomycetous fungi with dark septate hyphae, collectively being referred to as "dark septate endophytes" (DSE), seem to be as abundant in the water as on the land. Additionally, aquatic plants are being challenged by numerous fungal parasites. AMF may play an important role in nutrient uptake of some plants from the aquatic environment. However, many species of aquatic plants are...

Klement Bochořák: personality and work
Hradová, Jana ; Med, Jaroslav (referee) ; Wiendl, Jan (advisor)
The wistful poet Klement Bochořák (1910-1981), who decided to struggle for a poetic expression full of reconciliation and gratitude despite his "bitter maturing", belongs to the generation of "Spring Poetic Almanac". This author mentally resonated with impulse s coming from literature (Čep, Halas, Zahradníček, Mácha, Erben) and also from other inspiring areas (music, visual arts, folklore). He is usually considered to be one of catholic writers, a meditative lyricist of spiritual nature. The form of his work evokes concepts of Franciscan humility, tenderness, compassion, idealization, reflections of traditional folk Catholicism, and also the importance of connection with the specific region, i.e. the area surrounding Kunštát in Czech-Moravian Highlands. The said region forms a horizon of his poetic expression; it constitutes a literary space of homeland, the desired place, paradise on Earth. Bochořák inc1ines to an archetype of pilgrim; in the Čep's line he represents the poetry of dual home, being a poet of matutinal vision. In this work I focus (with respect to biographical details) on the introduction of Bochořák's literary work in its complexity, which encompasses not only his poetry, but also short prose, books for children, editorial work and translations (marginally). I shortly interpret these texts...

Human body and its image in the mediaval and contemporary culture (excursion in to the landscape of science and film)
Další oblasti, v nichž lidské tělo ve středověké kultuře oscilovalo, v mém textu promluvily v relacích asketického mnišství, zatracovaného ženství, hříšné sexuality, podezřelého snu, zranitelného dětství i stáří, rituálů a významů spojených s tělem nemocného a mrtvého a v neposlední řadě i živelného venkova. Ve všech těchto rámcích jsem se pokusila...

Authenticity of Czech literature in the 1990's
V příspěvcích do literárních časopisů diskutovali o významu autora pro autentické dílo, o možnostech recipienta, o pravdivém záznamu reality v textu a především o postavení soudobé literární kritiky.

The economic importance of energy in the Czech Republic
Štěpánková, Nicole ; Urbánková, Erika (advisor) ; Jitka, Jitka (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the economic importance of energy in the country. Along with this theme are reviewed macroeconomic indicators, which are compared with some of the attributes of the energy sector, so that they can assess their significance and coherence. Impact on GDP is reviewed in terms of electricity production, and also by means of the export of electricity. Impact of energy on the unemployment rate is evaluated from the perspective of people employed in the field of energy. The overall trade balance is evaluated in terms of import and export of electricity and natural gas. Finally, assessment of inflation through the development of prices of both commodities in the wholesale market. To evaluate these indicators are used statistical methods such as regression and correlation analysis. In conclusion, the thesis explains predetermined hypothesis and comprehensive assessment of the actual importance.
