Style analysis of editorials in contemporary journals

Při zkoumání korpusu editorialů jsme mohli potvrdit naši hypotézu, že editorialy lifestylových časopisů Marianne a Maxim tvoří ideologickou bránu do prostoru časopisu a svou povahou se liší od ostatních článků uvnitř čísla. Editorialy mají dvě základní funkce, které se v menší míře objevují i v ostatních článcích. Jedná se o funkci identifikační a atrakční (blízkou funkci reklamní). Jazyk editorialu, téma a ideologické poselství slouží ke ztotožnění se (identifikaci) čtenáře jednak s autorem textu, jednak s ostatními čtenáři periodika. Po přečtení editorialu čtenář ví, zda celý časopis je skutečně "pro něj", nebo má sáhnout po jiném. Tato komunikace probíhá ve dvou směrech: cílová skupina čtenářů ovlivňuje podobu časopisu a zároveň je autory časopisu ovlivňována (a to zejména prostřednictvím editorialu). Postoj ke čtenářům se liší podle toho, zda se jedná o časopis určený ženám, nebo mužům: autorka editorialu ženského časopisu přes veškeré zdání rovnoprávnosti, které je čtenáři primárně předkládáno, vystupuje jako autoritativní rádkyně, zatímco autor editorialu v pánském časopise se staví zcela naroveň čtenáři, dokonce podceňuje své schopnosti, což můžeme hodnotit jako projev v pánském časopise všudypřítomného zlehčování a nadhledu. Study of factors influencing the function of MntH, membrane transport protein of E. coli

MntH belongs to the Nramp family of transport proteins, and plays an important role not only in homeostasis of iron and manganese, but also in bacterial defence against the immunity response of an infected host cell. MntH co-transports divalent metal ions into the cell together with protons with a stoichiometry dependent on the membrane potential and extracellular pH. Using the redistribution potential dye diS-C3(3), we measured the effects of MNTH expression and MntH-mediated metal transport on the cell membrane potential and intracellular pH. Cells expressing MNTH were found to be hyperpolarised and their membrane potential was depolarised upon the addition of metal ions. In the theoretical part of our work, we explored general four-, six-, and eight-state carrier models that were modified by introducing the voltage dependence of all rate constants. Using mathematical modelling, we simulated the effect of various model parameters (including membrane potential, substrate concentration, and carrier or substrate charge) on substrate influx. A comparison of progressive forms in English and Albanian

On a very general level we can say that the results of the Project Research support the claims made by the authors of the surveyed literature in the Theoretical Overview, i.e., that the progressive forms in Albanian really exist. However, our research has qualified the observations on Albanian progressive constructions in the literature in one important respect: it has, perhaps surprisingly, shown that the po-constructions (in spite of their restriction to the present and imperfect) rather than the jam + duke forms are by far the more common of these two formal means of expressing progressiveness in Albanian. The prevalence of the po-constructions over the duke ones is surprising because the present/imperfect tense restrictions of the po-constructions are not the only ones. Other tenses are not allowed to combine with the po-constructions for diverse reasons (the preterite because of its terminative nature, the future tense because of the particles do te and the impossibility of po to combine with other particles before the verb). Another limitation that appeared in both parts ofthis study is the impossibility of the progressive po particle to accompany verbs denoting repetition or habit. Problems of the reception of Franz Grillparzer's plays with themes from Czech history and mythology

The thesis discusses problems of the reception of the work of the prominent Austrian dramatist Franz Grillparzer by Czech audiences. An emphasis is placed upon the plays König Ottokars Glück und Ende, Libussa and Ein Bruderzwist in Habsburg, which are inspired by stories from Czech history and mythology. Up to these days, these plays have never been staged in Czech theatres nor translated into Czech. Czech audiences did not accept them because of the way the dramatist depicted Czech history and harsh criticism of Czech people which mostly appears in the tragedy König Ottokars Glück und Ende. The first biographical part of the thesis is devoted to the life of the dramatist and the conditions in which his works were written. Knowledge of these factors is crucial for an understanding of the way Grillparzer employed historical motifs into his works. The three dramas are thoroughly analysed and compared with Czech tradition. Their important German productions and reviews are discussed in shorter chapters. Receptions of all Grillparzer's plays staged in the Czech lands and all studies and articles on the dramatist himself written by Czech critics are accounted. Centones Christiani. Intertextual transformations of one form of the Latin Christian poetry of late antiquity

Úkolem této práce bylo analyzovat, popsat a interpretovat cento, pozdněantickou formu "citátové poezie", pomocí takové metody, která by byla schopna vzít v potaz jeho zvláštní charakter. K tomuto účelu jsme se inspirovali analytickými přístupy k textu, které byly navrženy na sklonku 20. století s cílem uchopit různé fenomény závislosti a sekundarity v literatuře, a které vycházejí z teorie intertextuality. Úvodní Teoretická část, nazvaná "Hledání metody popisu", ve své první kapitole shrnuje vývoj proměnlivých názorú na centony a dělí je do tří období. První z nich, od pozdní antiky po baroko, se vymezuje tím, že cento patřilo k produktivním formám v dobové literární tvorbě, byť někdy na jejím okraji. Hodnocení centonu se je v souladu s tím převážně kladné (Ausonius, Isidor ze Sevilly, humanistické příručky, Caramuel z Lobkovic), zdůrazňuje se zejména jejich hravá a reinterpretační, případně parodická stránka. Nečetné kritiky (Tertullianus, Hieronymus, Decretum Gelasianum) vycházejí z ortodoxních křesťanských pozic a kritizují spíše nevhodnost spojení biblického obsahu s "pohanskou'' slovní formou než princip centonu jako takový. Detection of Global and Local Ischemic Changes in Electrical Field of the Heart

In this thesis, detailed investigation into the electrical field of the heart is presented in patients with various manifestations of myocardial ischemia. Methods of standard scalar electrocardiography and body surface potential mapping were used through statistical and mathematical analysis in order to compare their diagnostic performance. Body surface mapping proved to be more powerful research and diagnostic tool than standard electrocardiography and also constituted a framework for data entering the computer electrical model of the human heart and torso. Global and local ischemic changes were the primary objectives of the individual studies of this thesis. Different patient populations were studied including post myocardial infarction population, patients with variant angina and patients referred for percutaneous coronary angioplasty, and the population of patients suffering from ventricular arrhythmias related mostly to their postinfarction status. Traditional depolarization and repolarization changes were studied together with novel diagnostic parameters such as minimal potential loss within the QRS complex, single-beat cardiac micropotentials and distribution of the QT interval on the human thorax. This spectrum cannot be measured separately in its liquid form, but it is possible to obtain it by a specific mathematical processing of sets of measured spectra with different H/D ratios. In this work we measured Raman spectra of liquid water with different mole fractions of water and heavy water, which were evaluated by factor analysis. Except for well-known spectra of water and heavy water, spectrum of HDO was determined. For fitting of this spectrum and its analysis, model with equilibrium constant and linear correction of the spectral shape with respect to the relative ratio of D was used. Czech grammatography and cultural reflection of Czech language in the years 1533-1672

Čtyři kapitoly, kterými jsme prošli, měly gramatografickou reflexi češtiny v 16. a 17. století představit jednak v kontextu filologického jazykověreflexivniho úsilí, jak se rozvíjelo od starověku, jednak v její vnitřní dynamice. Vycházeli jsme z primárních textů samých a snažili jsme se syntetizovat poznatky dosavadního bádání, trvajícího v různé intenzitě zhruba od 60. let 19. století. Takové inventis addere, jak o něm mluví poslední motto, nebylo díky píli předchůdkyň a předchůdců tak obtížné. Na konci práce, post jinem, vidíme, že mnohé detaily musely být při pokusu o úhrnný obraz opomenuty, a že výsledkem práce je tedy spíše jakýsi vstupní přehled, který může posloužit jako východisko dalšímu bádání o gramatikách češtiny ajejich vydávání. Dluh zůstává hlavně ve zkoumání vztahů jednotlivých gramatik mezi sebou.

Making Theatre in London

The thesis examines contemporary British theatre focusing on the dynamic between a playwright, a director and an actor, which is very different in the UK from continental Europe. Describing specific London productions as well as the history of modern British theatre, it tries to identify what are the defining characteristics of British directing, acting and playwriting. Each chapter focuses on one of these elements and defines British theatre in realation to the Czech scene. By comparing selected productions of the same British play in Prague and London the author draws attention to the possible difficulties that might arise while staging British drama in a different cultural context.
