Bible and pastoral counseling. Two Concepts of American Pastoral Care in the 20th Century

This diploma thesis entitled: "Bible and Pastoral Counseling - Two Concepts of American Pastoral Care in the 20th Century" deals with two types of pastoral counseling (nouthetic counseling by Jay E. Adams and biblical counseling by Larry Crabb), which consider the Bible to be their basic and most important source and standard, and the context of their creation. The thesis describes the context, influences and life events that accompanied the authors during the creation of both counselings; it explains the basic ideas of both counselings and represents the way of using the Bible in a counseling conversation that the authors promote. It also mentions the criticism of other authors. The text first introduces the reader to the American concept of Christianity and pastoral care on the basis of historical development and later to both counseling directions - the nouthetic counseling and the biblical counseling. The bachelor thesis titled "Academic Pastoral Care in Bohemia" provides a description of function and content of pastoral care in Christian community in each university city of Bohemian church region. In the first-place thesis concentrate on pastoral care of young people. The theoretical part deals with the essential themes of youth, students, pastoration and its content, after that are presented components of pastoral content. Principal is the question of community life and its programme. A special point of this topic presents preparation for christening. In the beginning of the practical part are presented communities. There are observed the size of group, content of pastoration. And there are also presented the pluses and minuses of the place and community. Pastoral care in children's homes with respect to chaplaincy

Children growing up in residential institutions lost chance to live in natural family environment. No wonder they struggle with emotional deprivation, which has a very negative influence on their future lives. Česká školní inspekce (Czech School Inspectorate) is regularly highlighting this issue, and at the same time criticizing lack of educated personell in the institutions, which could provide systematic and long-term care. Even in the Czech secular society, there is growing concern among teachers, psychologists, philosophers, and theologians about lack of transcendence, which is neccessary for healthy children's personality. However, missing transcendent element might be developed by education. There is a chance for the church to step-in, because spiritual care in secular institutions is slowly becoming well-known in the community, due to its benefits. Therefore the subject matter of this thesis is to define the role of chaplaincy in children's homes. Since this subject matter is rather unexplored, it is, in the first chapter, neccessary to introduce the reader to concepts of pastoral care. Prayer: The Role, Place and Significance of Prayer in the Lives of Members of the Christian Community

The thesis, "Prayer: The Role, Place and Significance of Prayer in the Lives of Members of the Christian Community" deals with the topics outlined in its title. It is examined from the standpoint which understands prayer in its Biblical context, as well as how it has been interpreted by the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren tradition. The core of the thesis is made up of qualitative research. The goal of the research is to discover how prayer is perceived by believers within a particular Christian community: what place prayer occupies in their lives, what shapes it, what it contributes to them and, at the same time, how they perceive prayer and what kind of meaning corporate prayer has for them. Five deep, semi-structured conversations with research participants helped to achieve the goal of the thesis. The results of the qualitative analyses are presented in several chapters, of which four main chapters contain (1) the benefits of prayer in understanding oneself, and (2) in understanding and perceiving God, (3) prayer as a tool for service, and (4) benefits and deficits connected with prayer. Pastoral care of the elderly persons after the Second Vatican Council

The thesis deals with the possibilites of pastoral care of the elderly and attempts to outline its significance for an elderly persob. It also emphasizes that pastral care may be a way how to help old people to consider their age as decent. Spiritual needs of seniors can also be better met through the pastoral care. By chosen ecclesiastical documents, the thesis also tries to demonstrate how the Church maintain the pastoral care of seniors, however the rality is often different.
Marian Kuffa and His Approach to People in Need

This bachelor thesis deals with Marian Kuffa's approach to people in need. The first part of the thesis deals with Marian Kuffa's life, childhood, influence of his family in forming his personality, his later decision to become a priest and the beginning of his social activities in Zakovce, Slovakia. The second part of the thesis analyzes the most common causes of social exclusion, especially from Marian Kuffa's point of view. Further, the author describes life of people in need in common therapeutic communities and pays special attention to everyday life in the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest in Zakovce, Slovakia and its facilities. The focus is on the specific approach of Marian Kuffa to the resocialization process of the socially excluded people. In the last part, both the common and Kuffa's approaches are analyzed and compared, the pros and cons of both are stated.
Pastoral care for homeless people

The work deals with pastoral care for the non-prisoners in the asylum house of St. Pavel. The theoretical part deals with issues of homelessness, pastoral work in the broader and closer sense of the word, the outlines of the pastoral milion of the church with reference to the Bible, social encyclicals, but fundamentally centering the excerpt of the Second Vatican Council, especially the constitution of Gaudium et Spes. The purpose of the work has to analyze pastoralism as a spiritual master for homeless people visiting the asylum house of St. Pavel. The partial results are focused on the area of personal life, street life and the spiritual life of homeless people visiting the asylum house of St. Pavel. Qualitative research techniques have been applied in the analyses of interwievs with homeless persons.
Pastoral and Spiritual Care in Czech Health Care

Bachelor thesis Pastoral and Spiritual Care in Czech Health Care deals with situation of pastoral movement in health department. The goal of the thesis is to find out how is spiritual and pastoral care mediated and provided in chosen health institution. The thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with human dimensions of bio-psycho-social-spiritual model. The second chapter is focused on pastoral care and spirituality and its roots and understanding in modern times. The third chapter involve profession of chaplains in health care and pastoral workers, the legislative, their education and competencies, code of ethics, comparism with other countries. Chapter also includes information about organizations which are connected with chaplains in health care in Czech republic and in Europe. The forth chapter is focused on actual health institution, especially in Military hospital Olomouc as an example where is provided pastoral care. Chapter also includes information about pastoral care in Olomouc and in Olomouc region.
Pastoral care at the facilities of The Diaconia of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren

This work deals with pastoral care at the facilities of The Diaconia of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren (DECCB) with a focus on residential facilities for the elderly. It brings a closer look into the organization DECCB, its history and organizational culture, it summarizes the current knowledge of elderly age. Attention is paid to communication with seniors as well as to residence facilities for the elderly and to spiritual needs in elderly age. The practical part of the thesis presents the results of qualitative research carried out among pastoral workers who work in the residential homes for elderly people. The research deals with the offer of pastoral care in homes, specific questions within individual pastoral care of the elderly, and also personal requirements of the pastoral worker.
