Regionální média a uprchlická krize ve vybraných krajích České republiky
Rodová, Zuzana
This bachelor thesis deals with the phenomenon of refugee crisis and migration and with the projection of this theme in regional media. The aim of the thesis is to point to how migrant people are portrayed in regional media and to evaluate whether the picture of migrant people is consistent in regional daily newspapers on the basis of comparison of two regional mutations of the chosen medium. Then our aim is to suggest advice and recommendations for balanced coverage of this theme in the news. The theoretical part of the thesis offers insight into current migration trends in Europe, definitions of basic terms such as refugee crisis, refugee, migrant, asylum-seeker, international protection etc. Also we deal with the influence of media on the formation of public opinion and opinion on refugees. The following chapter presents our analysis of a small sample of articles in foreign media. We show how journalists write about migration in regional newspapers behind the border of the Czech Republic. In the empirical part of the thesis we try to find out, through content analysis of websites of two regional mutations of Deník, how the theme of the refugee crisis and migration is reflected in regional media. We find out that the portrait of refugees in regional media is rather consistent and the differences are given mostly by the personality of a journalist. Media agenda in regional newspapers rather do not correspond to real development of refugee crisis at the given place. It rather corresponds to the reality at the level of the Czech Republic or the European Union. We suggest essential recommendations for better covering the theme at the level of language and we call for deeper context.

Chábová, Tereza ; Aslan, Emil (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
This Master's thesis deals with the individual's motivations for participation in the Communist insurgency during the Greek Civil War of 1946-1949. More specifically, the thesis aims to analyse the motivations of those who joined the Communist guerrillas and at the same time originated from the population which came as Greek Christian refugees in 1920s to Macedonia, Northern Greece. The theories are then applied to the empirical case of Greek-speaking Pontic refugees from Anatolia and their participation in the Greek Civil War. The thesis introduces the background and experiences of the researched ethnic group throughout the interwar period up until the Greek Civil War. The analysis of the particular incentives which were behind the Greek refugee's participation is supported by the qualitative research in the form of interviews with 21 witnesses, who fall into the researched group of families who originate from the Pontos region in Anatolia and have family experience of mobilization in Communist Insurgency of 1946 to 1949. Legal status of whistleblowers in relation to the refugee status Abstract The aim of this thesis is to introduce the whistleblowing issue in context of international law, refugee law specifically. Especially in Czech law literature, this topic is neglected in such context. The object of the thesis is therefore to provide an overview of the issue and to identify and analyze its controversial aspects. The work is structured from general introduction into the topic, thereafter defining crucial terms and institutes and categorizing them, towards detailed analysis of the status of whistleblowers and each of refugee definition parts in particular. The core of the work itself is constituted of application of these definition characteristics to miscellaneous whistleblower cases, with the purpose of answering the research question whether (and under what condition) could whistleblowers fulfill the refugee definition.
