Tendencies of development in internal news service of ČTK

The diploma thesis "Development of Home service in the CTK" focuses on the changing news production in the Czech News Agency (CTK), a dominant national news agency in the Czech republic, between 1993 and 2013. From the very beginning of 1990's the agency started to be a public service institution, but obliged to earn money on its own. Already in 1990's it stopped receiving state subsidies, having to severly cut its costs and reduce the number of employees. Despite this,CTK increased range of its services as well as number of clients and also fought succesfully its competitors. This thesis tries to answer the question how have these changes influenced the news service. It follows the changes in number of published news articles, structure of the articles and also focuses on application of chosen theme categories, sources, quatations and with the title. Quantitative content analysis has been chosen as a method of research, using two sampled weeks in 1993 and 2013. There were more than 770 news articles analysed, focusing on 12 areas of research. Theoretical ground for this thesis consisted of methodology of media research as well as sources on CTK's history and function, including its annual reports.

The Formation of South Sudan in an Agency Press Service of ČTK

Bachelor thesis "The Formation of South Sudan in an Agency Press Service of ČTK" deals with texts and photos that are related to the declaration of independence of South Sudan and issued by the Czech News Agency (ČTK) between 9 May and 9 September 2011 (i.e. two months before the announcement and two months after). The thesis describes the background of events that led to the collapse of Sudan, Africa's former largest country. It also deals with the general conditions for the formation of a new state in the current international situation. South Sudan is the youngest country in the world. Its independence is a result of a long- standing conflicts and the formation itself was a unique event - many areas around the world are trying to gain international recognition, but few succeed. The aim of this thesis is to find out how ČTK captured the formation of South Sudan. The thesis contains a comparison of all texts based on metadata, resources and type of posts. It is followed by an analysis of main topics of the texts. The thesis also examines whether the news provided by ČTK was unbiased. Next part of the thesis analyzes photographic materials covering the formation of South Sudan. There is also a part examining how ČTK deals with transcription of Arabic names and titles.

Comparation of press agencies and foreign reporters news contribution

Diploma thesis "Comparation of press agencies and foreign correspondents news contribution" observe, analyze and compare foreing news in main television news sessions on channels Česká televize and FTV Prima. The target is to learn, if foreign television correspondents can distinctly contribute to the news progamme. Working hypothesis comes from theoretical scholar literature and practical experiences of author. The research establish approximate percentage of original correspondet reports and news agency reports edited in Prague in the selected media sample. With quantitative reserach approach the work evaluate parameters of each foreign news report. The goal is to make the analysis the most reliable as possible. It focuses questions as if correspondent brings exclusive topics and topics with relation to Czech republic, if correspondents are pushed to produce feature reports instead of actual reports, if live coverage is really the most up-to-date and authentic form of reporting, if world news agencies are really indispensable source of international news and audiovisual materials and if news agencies offer more complex service than televison correspondents.

When the source is wrong - corrections in the czech news agency's service and on the pages of the lidové noviny newspaper

Every news medium makes mistakes. No matter if the origin of the mistake is the information source or the journalist, a trustworthy medium always notifies of the mistake and corrects it. This thesis deals with these corrections on the example of the Czech News Agency to represent the news agencies. The theoretical grounds for the thesis are: to define the demands of news coverage, to present the specifics of the news coverage by news agencies, to offer relatively complex analysis of the work with the sources of journalistic information. The application section of the thesis analyses the corrections as published in the Czech News Agency's service during the first three months of the 2011 calendar year. These corrections are categorized by several keys: by the nature of the corrected mistake, by the affiliation of the corrected mistake to the specific agency service and by the priority of the corrected mistake. The results of the analysis serve a practical purpose to journalists because they show them which type of corrections is the most common for a specific kind of the news coverage. Multimedialization of news agency production focused on infographical service

In the era of digitalization and internet, news agencies are attempting to use all available instruments in the best possible quality to provide information effectively while stressing out accuracy, clarity and understandability. Especially for this reasons, multimedia service forms an integral part of news agency production. Using the advantages of various tables, graphs, diagrams or multidimensional animation, readers can be easily informed about current events and affairs and they are able to watch those events that are unlikely to be captured on a video. This work deals with the process of multimedialization of news agency production with examples of infographical service. In theoretical part, it ruminates over following aspects - the term of multimedialization, activity and functioning of news agencies and production of effective information graphics. In its practical part, it describes the production of infographics in the Czech News Agency, both in present and in history. The quantification of infographical production in years from 1992 to 2011 and its interpretation is also offered in this work.

Display of a selected region, town or country in an agency press service presented on case of Great Britain

Bachelor thesis called Display of a selected region, town or country in an agency press service presented on case of Great Britain deals with foreign coverage of the Czech News Agency concerning Great Britain which was published in a first term of the year 2011. Thesis is focused on written news only (not on photographies, audio or video), it is not focused on economic news and sport news. It brings information about news agencies in general and about the Czech News Agency, particularly about its foreign coverage. It is dedicated to area studies of Great Britain and consequently to bilateral relations among this country and Czechoslovakia, later the Czech Republic. Numbers of published news are filed into tables according to their categories, priorities and sources. Next step is to deal with an analysis of news published in the given period. It looks for differences among the news written by the foreign correspondent of the Czech News Agency working in London and those written by foreign redaction in Prague. Czech foreigen journalist of public media: comparison of conditions for execution of profession

The diploma thesis "Foreign Journalists of Czech Public Media: Comparison of the Conditions for execution of Profession" describes, maps and compares conditions for the work and life of permanent foreign journalists of public media institutions in the Czech Republic. These institutions are Czech Television, Czech Radio and Czech News Agency. After defining terms of public media, it continues by anchoring the public media in Czech legal system, a short description of history of each medium in context of foreign journalists, and the costs of operating a journalist network. Then it defines a journalist with regards to his or her profession and the necessary assumptions for doing such work. Later, foreign journalists are divided into several categories - permanent, ad hoc, freelancer, and war correspondent. Next, an operative part based on questionnaires had been sent to journalists and on two personal interviews with heads of the foreign editorial staffs of Czech Television and Czech Radio. The response rate to the questionnaires was over 60%. THE USAGE OF SPORT NEWS SERVICE OF CZECH NEWS AGENCY FROM THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN VANCOUVER 2010 IN NEWSPAPER SPORT

The bachelor thesis "The usage of sport news service of Czech News Agency from the Olympic Games in Vancouver 2010 in the newspaper Sport" deals with a media coverage of extraordinary important sport event aiming to find out the extend of today's dependence of print newspapers on the service of the press agency. The research is based on the example of the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, one of the most important sport events of 2010, and it surveys the production of sport section of Czech News Agency and the only Czech newspaper focused on sport. The thesis is focused on comparison of the Olympics' news service in the agency and in the newspaper and it covers the period beginning one week before the start of the Olympics and ending one week after the end of the Olympics. It traces the amount of agency's news used by Sport and it finds out whether the newspaper regularly adopted specific kind of news. The thesis also explores whether the journalists in Sport somehow worked more on the agency news or left them in their original form. Nicolas Sarkozy s reflection in the of ČTK in a period of Czech European Union Presidency

Bachelor's thesis Nicolas Sarkozy's reflection in the news of ČTK in a period of Czech European Union Presidency pursues French president Nicolas Sarkozy's activities in a period of Czech Presidency from 1st January to 30th June 2009. The Czech Republic was the second post-communist country after Slovenia which was the leader of the European Union so our Presidency received much interest. At the beginning, the Czech Republic as well as its Presidency was in a shadow of France which led the European Union before and its President Nicolas Sarkozy whose Presidency was very ambitious and dynamic. The aim of this thesis was to find out, how the news corresponded with Sarkozy's qualitites. Whether the news corresponded and Nicolas Sarkozy was really portrayed as the hyperactive and tireless politician, or his picture was the different, and the news of ČTK did not correspond with his characteristic properties. The second part of the thesis was a quantitative analysis of all news which in the text news of ČTK about Nicolas Sarkozy issued in the pursued period, and the detailed analysis of their metadata. These are always for clarity put and summarized in the tables. In some cases, I used graphs for better visibility. More detailed graphs of the quantity of news issued for each month are listed in the annexe.

Information range of intelligence agencies in terms of Information Studies

(in English): Diploma thesis "Information range of intelligence agencies in terms of Information Studies" deals about work with information in intelligence agencies. It describes and evaluates application of field of Information Studies in information support of intelligence agencies. It monitors the functioning of information services, acquisition and processing of information inside agencies. Generally describes an area of agency news service and in detail it covers the whole range of intelligence agencies, including a description of selected international and national agencies. An important part of the work is practical comparison and evaluation of selected criteria of agencies. Through the use of this comparative analysis it was possible to infer the activity and incidence of agencies in the market and determine their success. The obtained results point out that the key positions have a large global news agencies, but also demonstrate that depends on the size of the state in which it operates and the overall tradition of the agency. Not only thanks to the analysis, but also through the study of professional sources, focused on the topic, it is possible better understand the function and operation of the intelligence agencies.
