Criminal recidivism
Vejběrová, Andrea ; Císařová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Šámal, Pavel (referee) ; Kalvodová, Věra (referee)
The submitted work, as follows from its title, is concerned with criminal recidivism, in the first part primarily from a criminological perspective, while the second part of the work then deals particularly with the perspective of criminal law. As there has been a tendency to neglect recidivism in the professional literature in recent years, this work attempts to provide an overall summary of the subject of criminal recidivism while endeavouring to mention the most important aspects that are closely related to recidivism. Consequently, the introductory part of the work is devoted to a general delimitation of criminal recidivism and its various forms. The work attempts to make a basic excursion into this subject area while simultaneously endeavouring to evaluate the effectiveness of the commonest approaches employed in connection with criminal recidivism, primarily in relation to the current legislation in this country and abroad. In the context of foreign legislation and especially of the application of life sentences in the most serious cases of recidivism in some countries (including the former legislation in the Czech Republic) as obligatory punishment, considerable space is devoted here to the "three strikes law", which is applied primarily in the U.S.A. and, recently, also by our Slovak...

The subject of this thesis is a description and analysis of life imprisonment prisoners' daily life. The thesis deals with wider integration of daily life in jail. I would like to summarize the daily routine of life imprisonment prisoner. I suppose that this thesis doesn't give unambiguous conclusions but I would like to expound this sphere and...
Home arrest as an alternative punishment
KOUTKOVÁ, Marcela
The theme of this thesis is house arrest as an alternative punishment. It is relatively a new kind of punishment Act No. 40/2009 Coll., criminal code, which carne in force on 1. 1. 2010. It is based on the development of restorative justice, which takes interest in the future consequences of the given sentence. Since the existence of the human society there have always been certain punishments for those who somehow disrupted the run of society by their behaviour. It´s purpose and form has changed through in the process of community development and the development of individual rights. Nowadays, the most common imposed punishment is imprisonment, which is an isolation for the perpetrators and a society protection from possible criminal activity. Alternatives to imprisonment were founded due to the fact that the mentality of today´s society supports greater humanization. There are several reason for their storing. One of the alternative punishment is the already mentioned house arrest which can include adequate measures and reasonable restrictions. The meaning of punishment is social and economical. Although the attitude to house arrest at the beginning was quite sceptical from some professionals and the public, the result of the overall rating outweigh positives. One of the components of house arrest is the electronic monitoring of convicts, which will ensure constant checks through an electronic bracelet attached to the body of the convict. Although the trial operation of electronic monitoring has been successful there are financial reasons to check the prosecution of a sentence of house arrest by employees of Probation and Mediation Service of the Czech Republic. Probation and Mediation Service of the Czech Republic is closely related with house arrest. Pursuant to Act No. 257/2000 Coll. The activity of the worker of the Probation Service starts before the court´s decision about house arrest and continues till the completion of the sentence of the convicted.

Analysis of the Position of Ex-prisoners on the Labour Market in Czech Republic
Třesohlavý, Pavel ; Ševčíková, Michaela (advisor) ; Brabec, Petr (referee)
The focus of this diploma thesis is to describe the position of ex-prisoners on the labour market and how their operations on that market influence the society. In this paper, I will be looking into the social and state budget costs that these people cause, and why we can consider them as another vulnerable group on the labour market. The factors that lower their chances to succeed are lower productivity, level of education, and also statistical discrimination by employers that leads to demanding expectations on possessing a clean record. I will also focus my attention to the solutions that are currently in place in the Czech Republic, as success on the labour market is an important element to lowering the relapse rate. In the Czech Republic, the relapse rate is between 60 to 65 percent, which is lot higher than in other countries that have been trying to solve this problem for a longer period of time. This thesis confirms the hypothesis that this problem in the Czech Republic is not being treated on the same level as in other countries, and therefore we could learn and apply other solutions from abroad. Half-way houses have proven to be an effective solution and it would be good to put them into practice in Czech Republic as well.

An Integration of Social Weak People to the Society Using "domů na půli cesty"
PEJCHOVÁ, Nika
The clients of the social institution called "Dům na půli cesty" are young people who spent part of their life in an orphanage, educational institution, or they are leaving an imprisonment, or some kind of protective treatment. These people were separated from common life in society from different reasons which makes their comeback complicated. Such people usually live on the margin of society and this brings many problems. The ex-prisoners often start over commiting crimes and the young people from the educational institution often start to behave in a socio-pathological way to meet their needs. The goal of "Dům na půli cesty" is to help these people to integrate into the society and provide them with support and a place to stay for some time. The attention is paid to the young people that have expiated a punishment, with focus on factors that may play a role on the way of an individual to prison. Most attention is paid to the institutional education because most of the clients come from such institutions. It describes the conditions from which the children are placed in the institutional education. This work deals with the essential function of family as a key driver and tries to show the issue of integration in the society after leaving the institution. A specific example of "Dům na půli cesty" is described in the practical part of the research. The whole chapter is focused on the function of this institution in Český Krumlov. It describes the work of the employees who are almost indispensable here. Services and connected demands that are provided here are described as well. The main goal of this research is to describe the role of "Dům na půli cesty" in the system of integration young people into the society through monitoring of the activity of the chosen institution. It also tries to find out the view of the clients on the help provided there and on the degree of motivating the clients to get integrated in independent life. The research was focused on gathering answer on the research question: What particular actions done by "Dům na půli cesty" in Český Krumlov support the independence of the clients? A qualitative research was conducted to get the required information. This was achieved by the method of questioning, more specifically using the technique of half- structured interview. The interviews were conducted with seven clients of the "Dům na půli cesty" v Českém Krumlově. Records of these interviews were taken and rewritten with the permission of the communicating partners. The method of coding was used as well. The results were processed by the clustering method. The results of the interviews show that the clients of "Dům na půli cesty" in Český Krumlov are young people missing good family background who got in a difficult life situation which they cannot deal with on their own. Their biggest problems are: insufficient funds and inability of communication. The financial problems are mainly caused not only by the lack of education connected with unemployment, but also the absence of any money management. The inability of communication with the surroundings is connected mainly with the fact that these people were not given the chance to acquire such ability in the institution. "Dům na půli cesty" tries to help dealing with these problems. The clients see the provided help positively, they find this service necessary and are satisfied with it overall. This research highlights the problem connected with the location of the "Dům na půli cesty" in Český Krumlov. The main aims of the clients are: independence, finishing the studies and learning how to use money effectively. The independence of the clients is supported by these arrangements: motivation letters, duties, individual planning and supporting interviews. The acquired data will serve as a tool for improving the quality of the services in this institution. It will help to understand the life situation of clients of "Dům na půli cesty".

Specifics Pertaining to the Work of Radiological Assistants at Penitentiary Institutions
LÍSKOVSKÁ, Diana
The bachelor thesis explores medical care at penitentiary institutions {--} Valdice Prison in this particular case. As a radiological assistant, I focused in particular on the Department of Radiodiagnostics, Centre of Skiagraphics. I searched for differences of the work of a radiological assistant compared to a civil medical facility. The research focused on exploring the numbers of skiagraphic examinations in 1988 {--} 2008 and investigated the followed set. The results will show clearly whether the numbers of skiagraphic examinations were increasing or decreasing in the course of the years. In conclusion, the numbers will be compared to those of a civil medical facility. Comparison of data from skiagraphic examinations and their subsequent analysis will be used to verify the efficiency of the existing penitentiary system concept. Self-inflicted traumas represent the last-resort form of protest that provides evidence either of a high degree of desperation or low self-respect to social values. High responsive value of the compared data is expected in the hardest prison. The aim of this work is to acquaint the broad public with the specific features of the work of a radiological assistant, with the structure and characteristics of his or her occupational environment. Numerous principal changes have occurred in the field of the penitentiary system since 1989. These changes have not been widely welcome by the public. The process of humanization is not perceived as an effort of the government to change the attitudes of sentenced persons toward social values. It is seen predominantly as an incomprehensible display of weakness and excessive tolerance. Based on objective data, I would like to provide evidence of the efficiency and purpose of the humanization process in the penitentiary system and to help change the view of the public regarding its efficiency.
