Pavelková, Kristina ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
The thesis analyses the security policy of Great Britain within the context of the security policy of the European Union. By using comparison of New Labour's approach to security policy during the first and second term of Tony Blair in the years 1997-2005, the thesis aims to answer the question whether New Labour managed to keep the pro-European tendencies of Great Britain during both of the terms. The analysis concludes that New Labour failed to maintain its vision of pro-European shift of Great Britain. Since 2001, there is a distinctive shift from European security policy to the American one. Great Britain was mainly interested in its overseas ally at the expense of the European partner after 2001. Partial research question is whether the European security and defence policy was successful or not in promoting the proclaimed objectives within the European Union and whether Great Britain used its security policy to obtain more significant position within the EU. Answer to such question is that Great Britain used its security policy to obtain greater position for negotiation within the EU during the first term of Tony Blair in year 1997-2001 and that in security and defence policy, we talk about New Labour's success in promoting the proclaimed objectives throughout the European Union. Kuchařová, Alžběta ; Dubský, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Sršeň, Radim (referee)
Britain's attitude towards the European integration has been an uneasy one since its' inception and it thus represents one of the spheres of British politics that has attracted the most attention and that has been one of the most divisive issues of the domestic politics. The British attitude has however responded to the dynamical development of the political integration in Europe. The aim of the thesis is to assess Britain's attitude towards the political integration in Europe and to prove that, despite its dynamical development, the elements of Euroscepticism prevail over the elements of Europeanization. With respect to the aim, the thesis is divided into three chapters. The first one explains the political integration and charts its development and defines the modern concept of Euroscepticism and Europeanization. The second chapter deals with Britain's attitude towards the European integration, its historical background and its development immediately after the Second World War. Substantial part of the chapter is devoted to the analysis of the British attitude towards the milestones of the political integration. New Labour - Third way
Görčöš, Ivan ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Tumis, Stanislav (referee)
In my bachelor thesis "New Labour - Third way" I would like to analyze internal economic policy of Great Britain applicated by The Labour Party chaired by Tony Blair. The main question of my thesis will be -- Is the third way existing? Has the Labour Party with Tony Blair stayed still left-wing? Or has it become right-wing party? Can we speak about post-thatcherism? Was the idea of third way and deflection from traditional labour significances and Keynesian economics successful? I am going to initiate my work around 1979 when Labour Party went to opposition. The main part of my thesis will begin when Tony Blair was starting to became leader of the party. Especially with the intention of the programme New Labour, New Life For Britain. I am going to split it among three electoral victories. I will focus on policy related to inflation, unemployment, expenditures on health care or changes in education system. I am going to cancel my work in 2007 when Gordon Brown has become Prime Minister.

Use of Political Marketing in Reinventing the British Conservative Party
Heczko, Pavel ; Dvořáková, Vladimíra (advisor) ; Nováček, Jan (referee)
The subject of this thesis is The Conservative Party and its use of political marketing. The text analyzes how the Party responded to three subsequent election defeats in 1997, 2001 and 2005 and to what extent are the Conservatives utilizing political marketing methods and techniques in reaction to the pressure from their more market oriented competitor, the Labour Party. Since the rebranding of the Labour Party under Tony Blair, the Conservatives were struggling to adapt to the new reality. Instead of utilizing political marketing and being more responsive to the wishes of the electorate they diverged their polities more to the right. However, their incumbent leader, David Cameron, is transforming the Party and making it more market oriented. These efforts are critically analyzed.
