Evaluation of strategic planning by addressing public in forum planning

This thesis focuses on communication of strategic planning of municipalities in the Czech Republic. Communication is viewed from the position of the authors of media messages. The author demonstrates firstly the importance of the level of information awareness as a prerequisite for citizens' participation in formulating public policies and places the issue of participation in the concept of governance. On the basis of media analysis the data from 1996 to 2014 and five main criteria, from which relies for further data interpretation in connection with the strategic plans of cities and municipalities, author identifies major trends in communicating the topic in the media. The main question for this thesis is: What is the experience with communication of strategic plans of municipalities and cities of the Czech Republic in the media? This question evokes another sub- questions, which in the context of media analysis will need to be answered. How are the strategic plans called in the media? How are they explained to the public? What other techniques of explanation of complex planning process can we engage? Civic engagement through the eyes of members of political parties youth wings

The theme of my thesis is "Civic engagement though the eyes of political parties youth wings." I chose three specific associations, which cover the classical political spectrum. The goal of the thesis is to discover what kind of relationship these young people have to civic engagement. Civic engagement is represented by the new type of engaged NGOs. I also wanted to know what was their motivation to join the youth wing and if their opinions about civic engagement corespond with the Party point of view. In the theoretical part I introduce concepts of political participation and civic engagemant connected with the third sector and political parties. In the empirical part is presented the analysis with the findings. I used qualitative research strategy and data were obtained mostly trom interviews. In the end the findings are summarized and connscted with the theoretical framework.

The Involvement of Young Russian-Speaking Immigrants into Civil Society in Prague

Russian-speaking immigrant`s community in the Czech Republic is quite extensive and quite closed. A large proportion of this group includes university students whose civic engagement is an excellent indicator for assessing the level of integration into Czech society. The aim of this thesis is to find out how the young Russian-speaking immigrants participate in civil society in Prague and what potential obstacles to participation they have already had or may have. In addition, the large role is played by personal background and motivation of migrants. The history of the Russian migration in Czechoslovakia, integration theory and the theory of civic engagement are included in theoretical background. Design of the thesis is a qualitative research.

The Issue of Domestic Violence and Its Solutions in Practice from the Perspective of Public and Civil Sector in Hradec Kralove

The work is dedicated to solving the problem of domestic violence in Hradec Králové. The issue is seen from the practice in social work and provides insight into the stakeholders, namely the staff of the organizations or institutions of civil and public sector. The main focus is generally not only effective solution, but also specific assumptions success, and convenient tools, motivation and attitudes. Generally, all facts and factors affecting appropriate solution to the social problem in that region are examined. The approach of Hradec Králové appears to be an example of good practice, while the research seeks to clarify what is really involved. The view of the main involved actors, their motives and ways to engage themselves is also relevant. The first part describes the theoretical background, current approaches and solutions to institutional preconditions in terms of field research. The second part of the thesis based on research answers to research questions explains what exactly is behind the successful resolution of the issues. Social Engagement in Two North-Bohemian Villages

In the Czech Republic little attention has been given to the research of civil society in rural areas. One of the fundamental preconditions for the development of civil society is engagement of citizens. The aim of this work is to explore social engagement, which is an important part of civic engagement, in two villages. The research was conducted in the north of the Czech republic, in the specific area of the former Sudetenland. Promoting social engagement may be one of the factors influencing the development of the Czech countryside, which is struggling with a long- term depopulation. Through in-depth interviews and document analysis the study argues about what are the main factors for social engagement and how social engagement contributes to the development of social capital.

Civic engagement in Romania - testing the applicability of mainstream theories on the winter protests of 2012

The past few years have seen the emergence of new types of civic engagement. Citizens are now more capable to organize themselves than ever before and this creates a new pattern of social mobilization that has not previously been the centre of academic focus. This work analyses the particular case of the Romanian winter protests of 2012 in an attempt to prove that current mainstream theories of resource mobilization and framing do not fully explain the emergence of unstructured movements. The results aim to pave the way for a new theory of civic engagement that fits the newly observed realities and could be generalized to explain all forms of structured or unstructured participation to collective action.

The Media Influence on Transformation of Democracy

Mass media has always played the key role in democratic process. They are not only the indicator of its right functioning, but also the iniciator. From historical point of view is obvious, that technological progress and changes in the way of informing people were related to the political area. But with the increasing role of media, they changed their position from pure mediators of informations to the main actors of social and political life. The ‚old' media, such as newspapers, radio and television, are therefore partly responsible for commercialization of the public sphere and also for its depolitization. With contribution of the globalization effect on today's world, which causes besides other things the weakening of the nation state, there are only a little of the key democratic aspects left. Some find the solution in the ‚new' media represented by the Internet and social media, which are more interactive so they could get the citizens back to the game. And right in the increase of civic engagement see the theorists the potencial for creating a new democratic order based on high-level participation. Participation 2.0: Does Internet increase civic engagement in Czech Republic?

While in Western democracies the study of the impact of Internet on civic and political participation is very popular, in the Czech Republic this type of study is still at the beginning. It is merely focused on the impact of Internet on voter turnout and political campaigning. However the study of the impact of the Internet on civic and political participation from the indivdual level is still missing. Because of that te aim of this study is to analyze the impact of Internet use on political and civic participation. Based on my research I analyzed the internet activities and main factors that influence participation. The results of this study show that Internet is not going to be a panacea for political participation.

Civic engagement in the Czech Republic

Because of contemporary unsatisfactory political situation in the Czech Republic, caused by presence of widespread corruption networks, many civic initiatives have been established to improve the status quo. This diploma thesis describes two NGO's, which focus on electoral system change of the lower chamber of the parliament of the Czech Republic. These organizations are Přímá volba poslanců 2014 (Direct election of Members of Parliament 2014) and electoral reform of Karel Janeček which is promoted by NGO Pozitivní evoluce (Positive evolution). The thesis is a comparative case study of these two organizations. The main goal is to do complex analysis of these two organizations, and identify interests, which lead them to pursue the electoral system change. Furthermore, basic effects of electoral systems and their changes are described. One of the chapters describes the development of the debate over the electoral system change in the past 20 years and mentions the attitude of contemporary political parties and their representatives to electoral system reform.
