The confiscation of German borderland agriculture property and its following redistribution to new Czechoslovakian inhabitans
Hájková, Kateřina ; Soběhart, Radek (advisor) ; Jeřábková, Zdenka (referee)
This study represents an attempt to assess the situation in Czechoslovakia after the Second World War in consequence of the expulsion of Sudeten Germans from Czech borderland. It summarizes the overall contribution and the effectiveness of individual measures and legal amendments proposed by the government in order to permit the confiscation of German property and its redistribution to new Czech inhabitants. The main aim of this work is to find certain imperfections in the process (probably caused by the speed with which the decrees passed), as well as to draw the attention to the fact that the security, political and national interests became the national priorities in post-war period, at the expense of Czechoslovak economy.

Nuclear energy in the Czech Republic
Bosáková, Lenka ; Vostrovská, Zdenka (advisor) ; Antoš, Ondřej (referee)
This thesis deals with the topic of nuclear energy. The Czech Republic is currently a net electricity exporter however this status will probably change in next few years because of growing electricity consumption and decommissioning of obsolete coal-fired power plants. Moreover, contemporary government declared that it won't approve any construction of new reactors stressing the importance of renewable sources of energy (in spite of their limited potential in the Czech Republic). The goal of this thesis is to answer the question whether nuclear energy can compete with other sources of energy and whether is it possible to satisfy growing electricity consumption under the conditions of the Czech Republic by any other source of electricity besides nuclear energy taking into account environmental aspects.

American Security Policy towards Failed States with a Special Focus on the Case of Somalia
Kindl, Lukáš ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
During the 1990s, the United States gradually came to recognize that failed states emerged as a new threat to international security as they could become safe havens for terrorist or criminal groups, destabilize entire regions, and also provoke humanitarian crises. This thesis starts with an analysis of the general trends in the U.S. security policy towards these states since the early 1990s. Subsequently, it focuses on the concrete case of the U.S. policy towards Somalia, probably the most typical example of a failed state. Somalia has lacked a viable central government since 1991 and is internally fragmented as a result of a struggle between various clans. In the aftermath of negative experience from a humanitarian intervention in the midst of Somali civil war, the United States disengaged from Somalia and reevaluated its approach to such interventions in general. However, with regard to the War on Terror, the U.S. focused on this country once again and supported a newly created central government in hopes that it could restore order and prevent Somalia from becoming a breeding ground for terrorists. However, the government turned unable to govern, as it was challenged by an armed resistance. The aim of this thesis is to assess the most suitable approach toward Somalia the United States should implement...

Müller, Tomáš ; Dupáková, Lenka (advisor) ; Hraba, Zdeněk (referee)
This work concentrates on the issue of capital adequacy of banks. Inadequate capital base of the banking sector is often referred to as one of the causes of the latest financial crisis. Such topic is currently very actual. Even banking regulators pay high attention to this topic. In my thesis I focus on legal and economic aspects of this topic. It is typical for the banking sector that banks operate with much more leverage effect than enterprises belonging to other sectors. Therefore, I focus on the root cause of this phenomenon in the third chapter. I assess the bank indebtedness using the theory of optimal capital structure and I also address the relations between economic and regulatory capital. In the fourth chapter I focus on the concept of capital adequacy and its comparison with leverage indicator. The next chapter concentrates on the development of regulatory minimum capital adequacy standards developed by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, known as Basel I and Basel II. The last but one chapter focuses on the latest regulatory rules Basel III governing the capital adequacy of banks and their legal implementation. Final chapter analyzes the impact of Basel III rules on the capital structure of banks in the European Union and the Czech Republic. A separate part of the chapter is...
