Public awareness in the Czech Republic about hearing impairment

This bachelor thesis is focused on public awareness about hearing impairment in the Czech Republic. The main objective is to find more information about this topic. The first theoretical part describes basic theory, which is important for better understanding and orientation in hearing impairements issues. The practical part is dedicated to special education of people with hearing impairment, public attitudes towards people with this disability are also mentioned. This part is also focused on research with anonymous questionnaire, which includes questions about basic terms, knowledge of hearing impairment types, or experiences with meeting these people and how would respondents comunicate, if somebody with this disability asked for help. Questionaire is also focused on attitudes of respondents to hearing impairements and how they protect their own hearing. It implies from the research, that respondents are quite well informed about hearing handicaps, and that they are willing to help people with these disabilities despite their shyness. But even if they know how to protect their own hearing, they do not follow the rules of proper aural hygiene very much.
Assessing the effectiveness of selected compensatory aids for combined vision and hearing impairment

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the effectiveness of selected compensatory aids for people with combined vision and hearing impairment. The spectrum of compensation aids was chosen for the purposes of this work on the basis of a literature review on the topic of compensatory aids. The Areas of use of the compensatory aids have been reduced to information access aids and spatial orientation aids and separate user movement. Their effectiveness was assessed by a scoring system. The categories evaluated were: the type of instrument output, the possibility of using it outdoors or indoors, the autonomy of the device, the size of the device, the need of knowledge of Braille, the source of the device and its payment. The results of the research were consulted with three consultants who have personal disability experience and a corresponding university degree. The investigation research of this thesis consists of a commented assessment of individual tools supported by the opinions of consultants. Last but not least, the thesis includes concrete conclusions and recommendations for practice.
Utilization of ICT technologies in realization of spatial orientation and independent movement of people with visual impairment

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to present the current state of usage of ICT technologies in the spatial orientation of people with visual disability in the theoretical level and on this basis to perform a qualitative survey focused on the advantage of the use of current applications for minimizing the limits in the area of independent movement of individuals with visual disability. In addition, the thesis focuses on the current offer of compensatory aids with ICT technology in the context of reducing the limits of independent movement of people with visual impairment and their contribution to their quality of life. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part presents the current offer of ICT-based compensatory aids within the spatial orientation and independent movement of persons with visual impairment. In the practical part, the work is focused on mobile phone applications, which help people with visual impairment for better orientation and movements in space. The research was conducted through an structured, semi-structured interview technique. The interview was performed with two men who have visual impairment, and these applications helped them with their spatial orientation and individual movement. A qualitative survey suggests that mobile phone applications for the visually impaired people focusing on orientation and movement in space are very useful and can help them very well to improve their quality of life.
Integration and special education of visually impaired

Title: Integration and special education of visually impaired Purpose: The main objective of this work is to characterize the integration and special education of visually impaired people, to describe in detail a case study of one chosen client, who experienced the integration as well as the special education. Methods: The only participant in this study was a twenty-two years old man, who experienced in his educational process the integration as well as the special education. It is the qualitative study and the questions were answered by him and his close family members. Results: At the end of this study we deal with some questions, which we found interesting during the research. These questions are commented by the author in a discussion. Parents with severe visual impairment

Barbora Hrušková, Rodičovství osob s těžkým zrakovým postižením Abstract (in English) The diploma thesis researches practical aspects of the parental role of persons with severe visual impairment. Its aim is to describe the experiences of visually impaired parents with preparing for the arrival of a child, with parental role and with childcare during a preschool age. At the same time it aims to chart the social services available to this group and to determine the extent to which they actually use these services, or whether they are missing some services. Due to differences in the availability of services in Prague and in smaller towns, the whole diploma thesis is focused on the territory of Prague. The theoretical part describes a person with severe visual impairment, including its specifics in different areas of life. It also deals with possible different aspects of parenting for people with visual disabilities. It provides a description of compensatory aids and explains their important role in the lives of visually impaired people. Next it acquaints readers with the possibilities of financial support for visually impaired parents primarily by the state. ADL manual for people after stroke

This bachelor thesis is aiming at creating an ADL (Activity of Daily Living) manual for people who suffered a stroke. Theoretical part is mainly focused on results of stroke that patients have to live with. It represents what occupational therapy is about and its irreplaceable role in the process of the patient's return to active life. It shows wide range of rehabilitation process and patient's difficulties with availability of complete materials with its issue. There are materials describing etiology, causes and results of stroke on the market, but not so many publications describing procedure how to deal with it and how to reach the highest level of patient's independence in normal life when it once happened. Practical part is represented by my own manual called ,,ADL manual for people after a stroke". Manual is designed for ergotherapist to provide people after stroke with useful tutorials and instructions right in given part of ADL in which people have troubles. Summary sheets were made for each category of ADL with description of the most common difficulties. Training for autocatheterization in patients with spinal cord lesions from the perspective of an occupational therapist

This bachelor thesis deals with the rehearsal of self-catheterisation by spinal lesion patients from the occupational therapist's point of view. The aim of the thesis is to create a selfcatheterisation manual for patients after spinal lesion, which might be beneficial for paraplegic as well as tetraplegic patients. The manual contains information about the self- catheterisation procedure and offers instructions, methods and alternatives of compensatory aids and strategies for becoming independent in one of the ADL activities - urinary bladder emptying. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part clearly explains the problems of tetraplegia and the level of disability and analyses the effects of spinal injury to urinary bladder functioning. The practical part is concerned with the benefits of the Self-catheterisation Rehearsal by Spinal Lesion Patients from the Occupational Therapist's Point of View manual which were examined through a qualitative research.
