The attitude of the public to foster care
NESNÍDALOVÁ, Klára
My thesis deals with the attitude of public to foster care. One of the paradoxical issues is the fact that the number of children who are not reared by their biological parents remains quite high while the number of childless partnerships (though desiring offspring) is growing. In the Czech Republic, similarly as in other European countries, about 1% of children (about 20,000) do not grow up in their biological families. Only 2% of that group are full orphans. The remaining 98% of children have living biological parents who do not or cannot take care of them. I endeavored to find out how well individual members of the Czech society are informed about one of the possible solutions of infertility: alternate family care. Using questionnaires, I focused on several age and level of education groups and asked general as well as more personal questions. In the general part, I wanted to find out whether the individual knew what alternate family care was, the different kinds of alternate family care, who provides support during the process, what are the different options, the difference between adoption and foster care, etc. Then I inquired about their own willingness to take in a child, whether sex of the child, somatic and intellectual predisposition were criteria for them and whether they would take in a child of a different ethnicity. It is interesting to note that women are usually more prone to blame themselves for infertility.

Slezáčková, Alena ; Blatný, Marek ; Kepák, T.
We analyzed the impact of child’s oncological disease on parent’s quality of life (QoL). 120 parents of childhood cancer survivors 2 to 9 years after the treatment entered the study within 2006-2009. We used free responses method for description and subjective evaluation of positive and negative influence of child’s illness on particular domains of family life. Content analysis was used for analyzing the statements. Main positive and negative impacts of child’s illness on parent’s QoL were identified. Basic domains of posttraumatic growth PTG (changed self-perception , new possibilities, changes in interpersonal relations and spirituality, greater respect for life) and their bio-psycho-social determinants were distinguished. Statistically significant relations with the predominance of given positive aspects over negative ones were determined with respect to respondents’ age, time lapsed from the completion of active treatment and seriousness of late effects of child’s treatment.
Men´s and women´s roles
Škodová, Markéta
November survey CVVM investigated public opinions about division of men´s and women´s roles in families. As in survey 2006, both partners should share worries about education, budget, hobbies and contacts. Career building is supposed to belong to men´s activities or activities of both partners, but mainly it should belong to a men´s role. On the other hand cooking is considered as women´s domain. Looking after children, shopping and cleaning are activities that should be shared by both partners, which is opinion of about half of respondents. These duties are supposed to be undertaken by both partners, but rather by women, which is opinion of the rest of respondents. According to respondents financial provision for the family is mainly a task for a man.
