Personal identity and memory (Locke's theory of personal identity and its critical interpretation in analytical philosophy)
Kollmann, Jan ; Palkoska, Jan (referee) ; Hill, James (advisor)
The thesis deals with the relations between Locke's theory of personal identity, its "classical" critic, performed by Butler and Reid and its critical adoption amongst some authors of analytic philosophy (Grice, Quinton, Perry, Shoemaker). In the first part of the thesis, Locke is shown as the founder of a tradition that lays stress on the fundamental relation between the identity of persons over time and its memory or consciousness. We also distinguish the identity of person and the identity of man, this means person is understood as identical so far as its consciousness reaches, independently of the identity of material and/or immaterial substance in which the identity of man consists. Serious problems with Locke's conception, such as amnesia and paramnesia are discussed in this part too. In the second part of the thesis, classical objections against Locke's theory are analyzed - Reid's "brave officer paradox" and Butler's objection of petitio principii; Reid's and Butler's distinction between 86 the identity of persons and other things. In the third part we discuss two conceptions by contemporary authors (Grice and Quinton) who defend Locke's attitude against the classical objections and who assert, that personal identity consists in a certain sort of psychological continuity (continuity of memory or...

Hegel's criticism of the German historical law school in the Philosophy of Law
Holý, Václav ; Sobotka, Milan (advisor) ; Karásek, Jindřich (referee)
This work deals with the problem of hi s tory and historicity of man, society and laws. Hegel stands at the end of a long philosophical tradition and has developed a complex framework, which allows the explanation of all these phenomena and their development. The care of this explanation i s the understanding of the world as rational - the world is the product of the self-conscious idea. And more, the hi s tory is progress of the very same idea towards its own realisation in this world. Hegel sees the whole scenery from the point of view of "the end of history" and it is this position, which allows him to understand the laws governing it. Hegel likes to call his philosophy science and system and as such is this philosophy justifiable only on the grounds of its explicative power. Central terms of Hegels understanding of the society and laws are freedom, will, person and personality, which are again manifestations of the sole idea of reason. The work deals with their conception in Hegels philosophy and their functioning in the explanation of the development of the human society towards reason. Hegel sees the historical law school as an enemy of this development, as an effort to save the past. -we have tried to show that the historical law school is a much more complex phenomenon. Hugo and Savigny have tried...

Profundity and Existence
Olšovský, Jiří ; Funda, Otakar (advisor) ; Hogenová, Anna (referee) ; Trojan, Václav (referee)
The book maps the entirety of Kierkegaard's thinking. First it treats with three stages of life. Man can transcend a lower stage and enter a higher, or he can repose in any of the lowest stages. Than follow the basic concepts of Kierkegaard's system of thinking, namely inwardness, existence, truth, freedom, repetition, anxiety, and so on. Through these concepts, the totality of Kierkegaard's thinking may be grasped. Kierkegaard strove to be really existing thinker, and therefore the text speaks at times about the tight linkage of Kierkegaard's life to his conception of the existential thinker. It is the individual who does not forget true existence, who is able to resist abstract speculation. In the place of Hegel's dialectics of world history, Kierkegaard emphasizes the inwardness of man, which open up to faith. Kierkegaard presents the project of man, who is seeking his life aim, and from the nothingness of his despair he is arising to discover height of life. This individual is able to fight for truth and for that truth also to offer himself. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Plato´s Vision of the Ideal State and Dystopias in the 20th century
LACUŠKOVÁ, Petra
In this thesis I will deal with the comparison of Plato´s vision of the ideal state presented in his work Constitution to negative utopias in the 20th century. I will seek common invariants occuring in all presented works by using method of structural analysis formulated by Claude Lévi-Strauss. The subjects of my analysis are books Constitution, We, Brave New World, 1984 and movies Metropolis, Matrix and Equilibrium. In the end I will present my hypothesis that there is another invariant fact that all negative utopias are based on raising the economic character of a man in order to maximize effect of his work. This is done by suppression and destruction of John Dewey´s concept of an experience.

One Man Worth Ten Thousand: The Efficiency of the CLIL Approach in a Monolingual Class
Švorc, Ondřej ; Hofmannová, Marie (advisor) ; Havlůjová, Hana (referee)
The thesis deals with the issue of non-native language instruction of content subjects in a Czech secondary education environment. This topic is viewed upon through the prism of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). The theoretical part discusses the learners' competences as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, Krashen's Monitor Model theory, Interactive Hypothesis, Constructivism and Participatory Learning Theory and finally Vygotsky's theoretical concepts. The question is raised whether or not such an approach is feasible to be used in ordinary educational settings; which is addressed in the analytical part, which examines a CLIL project that was run. While discussing World War One, it combined the instruction of English and History. Consequently, the evaluation part of this thesis argues that CLIL is feasible, as it promotes the learners' competences and the whole set of their intelligences.

Preconditions, requirements and circumstances of dignified dying
Kolářová, Renáta ; Havránková, Olga (advisor) ; Holda, Dalibor (referee)
Résumé For a man, the issues of death and dying represent a very fundamental topic, which is sometimes filled with concerns. The "modern" way of living brings about many improvements and simplifications; at the same time, nevertheless, it also brings a lot of depersonalisation. The purpose of this PhD thesis is to open and map the conditions and circumstances of the dignified dying in both ways - in theoretical form, as well as (above all) in the form of a qualitative research. The introduction of the thesis presents the reasons why such a tender topic was selected and it further defines the terms that are elemental for the thesis. After the introduction there follows the comprehensive survey of mainly the theoretical approaches, that are touched by this thesis. The theoretical part opens the view to contemporary conceptions and desires connected with death and dying. It also partly opens the question of the reasons why people fear the death. Last but not least, the theoretical part covers the essence, danger and current anchoring of the right to dignified dying. There follows the very qualitative research after the theoretical part. This research presents important facts and experience of 12 respondents. Those 12 respondents are people who were taking care of gravely ill or dying person either from their...
