Quality of Urban Structure Based on Evaluation of their Inhabitants
Matyášová, Jana ; Vaishar, Antonín (referee) ; Wittmann, Maxmilian (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (advisor)
Residential satisfaction is a part of the social pillar sustainable development. An investigation of satisfaction can contribute to designing of such residential estates that will better satisfy their needs towards overall life satisfaction. Overall life satisfaction underpins the prosperous and generally satisfied society. This work deals with the relationship between the urban structure and the satisfaction of the residents living there. To describe this relationship, it is necessary to define the terms urban structure and residential satisfaction. The research block shall be based on theoretical grounds and overview of urban structures. The theoretical block deals with the historical overview and development of urban structures in the city of Brno and Vienna since the mid-19th century to the present. Based on this knowledge, locations for case studies of the residential estates have been selected subsequently to represent various urban structures. A local survey, questionnaire survey and interviews with residents took place in the residential estates selected in this way. The result of the research some of questions answers and asks some other ones, because the residential satisfaction is a relative consideration and not an exactly expressible value. It is also conditional on many factors that cannot be managed in this work. It is evident that the compact city may not be well-functioning if it is not in the central part of the city and the relative success of the of the open building line of the prefab estates compared to compact sets nearby city centers has been also a surprising result. However, some other assumptions have been confirmed.
Infuse of specialization on structure cities, rural habitat and landscape
Štěpánek, Martin ; Urbášková, Hana (referee) ; Suchánek, Radek (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (advisor)
Specialization and concentration of human activity is a phenomenon which accompanies the development of human settlements from their very beginning. While thoroughly explored in other fields, interconnection between pecialisation, on one hand, and urbanism and architecture, on the other, has been neglected. Nevertheless, this issue is of high ignificance since it determines the settlement structure development to a large extent. If understood correctly, this underlying principle of the impact of specialisation and concentration on the settlement development offers a new insight into historical context and enables one to understand the present development.
REVITALIZATION OF THE TERRITORY OF THE ČKD IN PRAGUE, VYSOČANY
Zatloukalová, Denisa ; Zemánek, Václav (referee) ; Zemánková, Helena (advisor)
There is a large number of localities in Prague that have lost their industrial glory or transport signifi cance. Today, these areas remain unused and turn into neglected scars on the city´s face. 1466 hectares of such territories exist now in Prague. Their transformation and limitation of the city´s expansion is one of the main goals of the new Prague´s Metropolitan Plan. And the solution to the transformation of the former ČKD is the subject of this thesis. Conditions for the revitalization of the territory of the former ČKD are embedded in the zoning plan for the Prague´s district Vysočany, in the new Metropolitan Plan and the new development projects in surrounding play its role too. The aim of the chapter is to evaluate the existing land situation, its use with respect to the new Metropolitan Plan and conceptual renewal of the postindustrial territory of Vysočany district. The thesis presents a possible example of the creation of a new urban district, which offers housing, modern offices, sports and all amenities. Modern architecture of high-rise buildings is complemented by quality solutions of public spaces, green streets and parks.
The Brownfields solutions within the Czech Republic - Tepna Nachod
Kalvoda, Vít ; Erben, Adam (referee) ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (advisor)
The urban study deals with the design of the new city district in the area where the Tepna Náchod textile factory used to stand. The total area of the solved area (including the existing development) is 10.35 ha. My intention was to create a new neighborhood that will take advantage of the huge benefits of this area. These are the terrain configuration and the immediate proximity of the historic city center and the train and bus stations. Because the area is flat and it is one of the few in the city that is not on the slope, I decided to place a compact block of flats and make the most of the area. The aim was to design a new city district, basically a modern city center, but it will not compete with the historic one, but rather will support it. The newly designed public spaces are not critical in their size, but in their content and diversity. The main idea of the proposal was to use the proximity of the railway station, the historic center and the terrain and create a barrier-free city district for the inhabitants, which will connect the surrounding city districts and at the same time offer enough housing, places for business and also a leisure time environment. And everything is within walking distance of the station and the center.
Spokojenost obyvatel v různých urbanistických strukturách
Matyášová, Jana
This study compares the results of a questionnaire survey focused on residential satisfaction. The survey was a part of the GA17-26104S project and was undertaken in five different residential areas in Brno. These residential areas were selected to represent different types of urban structures. The evaluation of the results of the questionnaire survey could thus contribute to explaining the relationship between urban structure and residential satisfaction.

The whole urban block is connected through a garden which extends the Spilberk castle park.
Urban Structure Analysis
Vašata, D. ; Exner, Pavel ; Šeba, Petr
The built-up land represents an important type of overall landscape. We analyse the structure of built-up land in largest cities in the Czech Republic and selected cities in the USA using the framework of statistical physics. To do this, both the variance of the built-up area and the number variance of built-up landed plots in circles are calculated. In both cases the variance as a function of a circle radius follows a power law. The obtained value of the exponents are comparable to exponents typical for critical systems. The study is based on cadastral data in the Czech Republic and building footprints GIS data in the USA.
Urban study of development area city - Brno
Kavková, Veronika ; Kabela, Miloš (referee) ; Sátora, Josef (advisor)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to elaborate an area which belongs to one of the proposed development directions of Brno city. The area is located under the D1 highway adjacent to the confluence of Svratka and Svitava rivers in the Brno-jih district. There are two villages in the area – Dolní Heršpice and Přízřenice – which are surrounded by buildings of mainly business and industrial character. The objective of this work is to review the possibility of utilizing the defined area for living as the number of similar areas in Brno is decreasing. The result of the diploma thesis is an urbanistic idea outlining possible functional use of a large area covering 380 ha, and a thematic study of an urbanistic structure in a particularly defined part.
