Lesbian Identity as a Stigma?
Kalinová, Pavla ; Maříková, Hana (advisor) ; Grygar, Jakub (referee)
This thesis raises the question to what extent remains lesbian identity relevant as a stigma in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part shows how sexuality and homosexuality in particular is influenced and shaped by society. I draw predominantly from scientific texts of foreign origin and for information relating to the Czech Republic I draw from Czech resources. My approach to the study of sexuality is constructivist. The research part of my study I drew from the analysis of semi-structured interviews with lesbian women. Initially, I offered an insight on what it means to be lesbian by the bearers of lesbian identities themselves. In the central part of my study, I explained in what context and why are the lesbian identities usually experienced as a stigma. As part of everyday life lesbian identity manifests itself as a stigma especially when a lesbian did not come out and treats her own identity as a stigma herself. By doing so she brings tension into interactions, especially with people who she is closer with, because she constantly deals with the control of information about her lesbian identity. Dissimulation of lesbian identity gets even harder in case that she is in relationship with a woman. Such a thing is necessarily connected with closeting the relationship, which makes it difficult for the...

Weinbergerová, Lenka ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
My diploma thesis on the basis of intersectionality analyzes the social construction of "otherness" in etnically mixed partnerships and how does it manifests and influences the self- conception of Czech women that are in the mixed relationships. Further, it analyzes how the partners "otherness" affects the position of the women in the society. In my thesis I work with the concept of transmitted stigma, because the etnical otherness is not constructed on the horizontal differences, but contains also classifing and assesing aspects, which may situate the mixed patnerships to the positions of dis/advantage. For my qualitative research I have chosen semi-structured interviews with women, that were born and live in the Czech Republic and are or was in etnically mixed relationship. Key words: mixed partnership, stigma, otherness, etnicity, race, intersectionality

Professional care through the eyes of clients with Borderline Personality Disorder
Williamsová, Kathryn ; Vágnerová, Marie (advisor) ; Goldmann, Petr (referee)
In this bachelor's thesis I focus on the experience of clients with the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (BPD) in the system of care for the mentally ill in the Czech Republic. In the theoretical part of the work I will first introduce the basic manifestations of borderline personality disorder, its typical development, diagnostic criteria, and treatment. Subsequently, I will focus on the stigmatization of BPD, as it is one of the most stigmatized mental illnesses, usually by people working in professional care. I will focus on the analysis of the possible causes of this stigmatization. I will then introduce the current system of care for the mentally ill in the Czech Republic. I will then focus in more detail on the ongoing reform and the specific treatment options that the client with BPD in the Czech Republic now has. In the empirical part I will present the specific experiences of eight respondents who were diagnosed with BPD in the system of care for the mentally ill in the Czech Republic. I carried out in-depth semi-structured interviews with elements of the narrative interview, which I subsequently subjected to a thematic analysis. First, I present their stories, from the start of their issues to the present day. In the second part, I will present the results of the thematic...
People with mental disorders and their access to the labour market
Vovsová, Nikola ; Rybová, Lucie (advisor) ; Angelovská, Olga (referee)
Group of people with mental illness is a very diverse group. Due to its diagnosis they have to face prejudices and stigmatization, which influences all levels of their lives - even the working one. This diploma thesis People with mental disorders and their access to the labour market examines the position of persons with mental disorders on the labor market. It is based on the premise that employment is an important element for every person, as it provides an income and, above all, represents belonging to the majority society. In this work I introduce the setting of Czech legislation and public policy documents, I realize my own quantitative (using content analysis of media outputs) and qualitative (using semi-structured expert interviews) research and based on that I classify people with mental illness into the relevant target population according to the Theory of social construction of target populations (according to Schneider and Ingram). I choose this procedure of combined (= mixed) research to collect a sufficient amount of data. This theory says how benefits or burdens are allocated in society. I define the problems and, in conclusion, I present possible recommendations how the situation could change with the help of public policy instruments and how the the stigma that these people have to...
Pastoral care for male and female prostitutes
Vorlová, Johana Miriam ; Vymětal, Mikuláš (advisor) ; Keřkovský, Pavel (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the pastoral care of people who engage in prostitution. In research interviews, which is the main tool of this research, the aim is to understand bio- psycho-socio-spiritual needs of these people. This thesis answers positively the question whether the spiritual care is something to enrich and saturate these people. Findings are that pastoration is benefical to people working in prostitution. There are opinions that pastoration should be focused on achieving clients' specific goals leading client away from prostitution. I find it inappropriate if this goal is maintained as a condition of help. Considering findings of this work, pastoration can be considered successful even if there is nothing more than opportunity for the client to be heard and accepted. The theoretical part is examining the role of prostitution in the Bible. The question of stigma is another important aspect of this research to be considered. The Bible research findings show ambiguity in this topic. I believe that this work will bring understanding of situations and motivations of people working in prostitution. I also believe that this work will contribute in bigger openness of churches towards this group of people.
