Media Coverage of Rytiri Kladno Ice Hockey Club During Two Extraliga Qualifications

The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze the media coverage of Rytiri Kladno ice hockey club during two extraleague qualifications. The qualitative research is based on concepts of framing and news values. The sample contains four online news websites in two seasons. Three of these websites are parts of large media houses, one of them is focused solely on ice hockey. The aim of this thesis is to describe, how media outputs related to Rytiri Kladno were framed. The frames are described in analytical part, that is concluded with summarization of its findings. Conclusion summarizes the framing analysis results and compares the findings with current academic knowledge of framing and sports journalism in general.
Lingustic analysis of football TV commentary from 1970s to present days

This diploma thesis deals with football television commentary since 1970s to present days. In theoretical part it examines its development and two crucial domestic representatives of this genre - Vít Holubec and Jaromír Bosák. The greatest emphasis is placed on verbal chracteristics of their commentary and usage of language means. That is the reason why this diploma thesis also contains Czech language theory that sums up the specifics of football commentary and explains them on actual examples. The practical part contains detailed analysis of four selected football matches. The aim of this work is to compare TV football commentary from 1970s, 1980s and 1990s with its current conception through comparative language analysis.

The Bachelor thesis Online reporting on football matches as a format of sports journalism from a perspective of its authors describes online reporting as one of new types of sports journalism in the digital era and engages in forms of online reports in chosen Czech media outlets. The main method used while completing the thesis were semi-structured interviews with deputies of chosen media outlets. The main research topics were targeted on the beginnings and present state of live reporting in the particular media outlet, specifics of online reports and what does writing online reports require from their author and the use of multimedia and statistical databases. Based on collected data, the work describes similarities and differences between online reports that are caused by different way of creating those reports by particular media outlet.

The bachelor's thesis "Silver legacy of EURO 1996 during the following European Football Championships" deals with informing how selected Czech dailies reported on the 1996 European Football Championship during the following five European football championships. In selected tournaments, the text follows the frequency, and which iconic moments and personalities were most referred to in connection with the 1996 European Championship. The work is divided into three parts. The theoretical first describes the relationship between sport and the media, which is important for the correct understand of the bachelor's thesis. Further, the introductory part deals with aspects of how sports success is displayed, which is in fact the subject of research in the bachelor's thesis. In the next phase, he describes the history of European football championships. This context is also suitable for understanding a successful sporting event in a broader context. The second part of the thesis describes the definition of research and the methods used, then the introduction of the researched periodicals and the coding book itself with selected analytical variables. The Comparison of Sports Sections of the Czech Daily Newspapers (Blesk, Lidové noviny, Deník)

The diploma thesis treats sports journalism in the Czech press. It aims to compare sports sections of three Czech daily newspapers - Blesk, Lidové noviny, and Deník (represented by Moravskoslezský deník as a suitable regional variant) by quantitative content analysis according to eight criteria: percentual representation of genres, sports, topics, number of photos, representation of sportsmen and journalists based on their gender, forms of authorship and proportion of sport-oriented articles outside the sports sections and compare it with results from 2011 a 2015 data set and a global project The International Sports Press Survey 2011. In the opening part, the diploma thesis attends to the critical reception of sports journalism coverage and introduce Czech sports journalism after 1989, then briefly characterize chosen daily newspapers. The last chapter of the theoretical part describes data collection and its analysis. The practical part of the diploma thesis fills the gap of lacking quantitative data completed with interpretation and authentic examples from research. This constitutes a framework of future periodic researches and challenges other researchers to serious progress of this neglected discipline in the Czech Republic which could lead to international survey participation of this country...

Reporting Ice-Hockey: Women's and Men's Perspective

The thesis called Reporting Ice-hockey: Women's and Men's Perspective focuses on possible differences in works of female and male sports journalists. In the theoretical part, the issue of gender in sports journalism, basic stereotypes associated with the work of female sports journalists and the characteristics of the female writing style are introduced. In the practical part, reports of specific Czech journalists about ice-hockey are analysed. The analysis includes audio-visual reports from Branky, body, vteřiny; Hokej den poté, and written reports from Mladá fronta Dnes and online news server iDNES.cz. The emphasis is put on, for example, the frequency of statistical data, the description of the atmosphere and emotions, the originality of expressions or the use of sports journalism jargon and clichés. The aim of the qualitative content analysis is to prove whether and how the reports of selected female and male sports journalists differ.
