This diploma thesis "Freelance journalist Franta Kocourek" deals with the life and career of Franta Kocourek, the important Czechoslovak journalist in the 20. century. Diploma focuses especially on his working in the press media - prestigious periodicals of the First Czechoslovak Republic weekly magazine Přítomnost and daily newspaper Lidové noviny, not too much successful weekly magazine Groš, leaded by himself, and daily newspaper Slovenský hlas. Kocourek especially had concentrated on reportages, but he was also very universial in styles and issues. He had been writing profound reportages about growing influence of nacism besides surveys about people living at the edge of society, expert studies about the cinemotagraphy or essayes. This diploma describes Kocourek as a omnifarious personality, who had been occupying by literature, movies or public lectures except his working in media. There is also mentioned his working in the radio, where he had been improving among the best reporters at the turn of the 1930s and the 1940s, who had been going along with the Czechoslovak people during last period of the First Czechoslovak Republic, short time of the Second Czechoslovak Republic and the nazi ocupation. "Decided otherwise..." The behavior of Czechoslovak paratroopers arrested in the territory of Ptotectorate 1941- 1943

This thesis is focused on fate of Czechoslovak paratroopers who were arrested by Nazi forces after being dropped into the territory of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. In several cases paratroopers turned themselves in to the police authorities voluntarily. The goal of this thesis is the analysis of paratroopers' behavior during the interrogations with focus on the information about the resistance and other paratrooper actions they gave to the Nazis. If the paratrooper was persuaded to collaborate with the Gestapo the thesis analyzes the collaborative activity and its results. Czech press for people called up to forced labour in Nazi

The diploma thesis Czech Press for People Called up to Do Forced Labour in Nazi Germany deals with the weekly Czech Labourer which was sent to the Czech workers called up to German factories during the period of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia within the years 1939-1945. The thesis aims at exploring its origin, publishing and changes concerning its publishers and owners. It also analyses its distribution to Nazi Germany and its content in detail. Furthermore, by means of the quantitative analysis the thesis surveys the thematic agenda of the main articles on the front pages. It discusses the impact of the propagandistic information in media on those who were called up to do forced labour. Within the context, this paper examines the operation of media during the period of Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.

The relationship between the Jewish and non-Jewish inhabitants of the Podorlicko region (1930 - 1945)

This bachelor thesis deals with the relationship between the Jewish and non-Jewish inhabitants of the Podorlicko region between the years 1930 and 1945. It focuses on the changes of this relationship in the light of the events of the given period. The thesis is based on the specialised literature and the internet sources. The memories of the witnesses derived mainly from the publications focusing on the history of the jewish settlement in the particular areas and towns of Podorlicko and partially from the author's family archive are an important part of the thesis. How changed the image of the Soviet Union in the protectorate daily press-comparison of the contemporary media contents in august-september 1939 and june-juli 1941

Diploma thesis "Change of the Soviet Union image in the protectorate press based on comparison of the media content from the turn of August/September 1939 and June/July 1941" deals with the manner in which the protectorate newspapers informed about the Ribbentop-Molotov Pact and later about the German invasion of the Soviet Union. The examples of these events and their reflection in the Protectorate press demonstrate how flexibly the protectorate propaganda responded to the current political line. For the purposes of the thesis, there have been selected three newspapers: Polední list, Večerní České Slovo and Venkov. These periodicals were examined in two time-bound periods, from 23rd August till 27th September 1939 and from 16th June till 14th July 1941. The methodology used is a historical comparative analysis, which discusses the transformation of Protectorate propaganda attitudes in the dependence on the historical context, and semiotic analysis, which deals with period media discourse and reveals ideology sustained on the level of sign systems.

The Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia: law as an instrument of Nazi expansion

The thesis deals with the role of the law in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (1939-1945) during its economic exploitation, Germanisation and categorisation of the population as a prerequisite for an end solution to the so-called Jewish and Czech question in the plans of the Nazis. It focuses on forming this "law of lawfulness", its content and enforceability and comes to the conclusion that rule-making at that time played an important, above all, organisation-related role in implementing occupation order, however if this was an obstacle to rapid and radical solutions, it became a burden which the Nazis replaced with injustices in the form of special treatment (Sonderbehandlung) of martial law, executions and deportation to concentration camps. An example of the instrumental abuse of the law on behalf of the Nazis to pursue their expansion plans leads us to the general conclusion that to safeguard against abusing the law to control others cannot rely on the law alone, but also requires a democratically functioning society and a conscious historical memory of nations. My rigorous thesis describes the system of press regulation in Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia by means of two-level comparison. The first one is a comparison of official orders and directives with real content of legal Czech protectoral press (it means "Národní politika" for this research) during two important eras: after the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich and Adolf Hitler. The second one is a comparison of these two media agendas and their synthesis. I wanted to demonstrate the process of press regulation through concrete agendas that are similar in many points: both events are the same (assassinations); both men were the highest men in nazi hierarchy (Hitler was number one in the Third Reich, Heydrich was number three); media were supposed to make some reaction in the direct of recipients because of the propaganda power. But there were some differences as well: the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich causes his death and it was made by Czech emigrants; Adolf Hitler survived almost unhurt and the following revolt and plot (part of the operation Valkyrie) was planned by German high officers in Germany. One of the results of this rigorous thesis is the statement that it was important for Czech press institutions if the event is a part of protectoral life and environment or if it takes place elsewhere...
