Integrating Environmental Education Topics into the EFL Class to Improve Students' Communication Skills

This bachelor thesis aims to explore ways in which environmental topics might be integrated into the ESL classroom to improve students' communication skills. The theoretical part is concerned with teaching methods that combine content and language instruction, introduce relevant topics and create an authentic environment for language learning. It further analyses the content and main objectives of Environmental Education as a cross-curricular subject and identifies communication skills as an essential element of soft skills. The thesis examines their possible development through engaging students in discussions about environmental issues. The practical part consists of planning individual lessons whose content derives from topics of Environmental Education and emphasis is placed on communication activities. The lessons were thereafter implemented in an Elementary School ZŠ Drtinova and reflected on using Korthagen's ALACT model. Based on the teaching experience, the practical part contains recommendations for similar lessons. The thesis suggests that English language teachers are in a unique position to promote environmental awareness and improve students' language skills simultaneously.
Controversial issues in civic education: example of gender and stereotypes

The thesis is focused on research on teaching controversial issues in civic education. The aim is to examine the utilization of controversies in classes and the analysis of the application of various methods using controversies. In the first part the theoretical base of the thesis was defined and also the importance of integrating controversial topics was explained. Moreover, the anchorage in curricular documents was presented and also the psychological theories of development of thinking and moral together with different methods were described. In the second part, the methodological base of the thesis was stated and one concrete lesson with the topic of gender and stereotypes was drafted. The qualitative research took place in two classes of secondary school in the form of active observations of students and structured interviews with their teachers of civic education. The results show some differences in students' competences according to the amount of integration of controversial topics in classes. The utilization of the School world atlas in interdisciplinary topics

This bachelor work is focused on secondary-school interdisciplinary topics and their tuition with making use of School world atlas. A part of this work is analysis of interdisciplinary topics from General National Curriculum Frameworks for ecodary schools particularly out of geographical view and its comparison with selected foreign curriculum documents. The work also reminds the importance of cartographic skills, their development in the course of studies and their necessity for the correct working with School Atlas of the World. Utilization of School world atlas itself during classes and teaching the interdisciplinary topics is given on various examples. For each interdisciplinary topic there is one selected thematic circle with presentation of factual real assignments which can be applied during lessons and can help to inspire teachers. Media education from the future teachers' point of view

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide a different view on media education, specifically from the point of view of students of the Faculty of Education of Charles University. The thesis provides an insight into the preparation of teachers for their future work in the field, consequently their readiness to teach the subject of Media Education, defined by common frameworks for education created by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The theoretical background described in the first chapter of the paper provides a basic overview of elementary concepts related to media education and media literacy, the second chapter describes the ways in which future teachers can be trained both within and outside the institution of university. The practical part of the thesis consists of interviews undertaken at the Faculty of Education at Charles University among current students from various departments. They depict the current situation in the field of media education for future teachers and describe how their education takes place and how they themselves assess their readiness to teach the subject. The main purpose of the work is to describe the current situation in the field and to create incentives for future teachers which will lead to the improvement of the Czech students' media literacy.
Experiential Games as a Stimulus to Philosophical Dialogue - Creative Project

This thesis focuses on the usage of experiential games as a stimulus to philosophical dialogue. The theoretical part focuses on the methodology of experiential game and the philosophical dialogue. It includes the concepts and basic resources. It introduces the programme theory which is the basis for the second practical part of this thesis - the creative project. The practical part attempts to apply the experiential game as a stimulus to Philosophical Dialogue. It is a creative project, which focuses on the possible usage of the experiential game and the philosophical dialogue in one educational programme both in the formal and non-formal environment. Its content is derived from the Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education edited by The Czech Republic Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) in 2017.
Media education from the future teachers'point of view

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide a different view on media education, specifically from the point of view of students of the Faculty of Education of Charles University. The thesis provides an insight into the preparation of teachers for their future work in the field, consequently their readiness to teach the subject of Media Education, defined by common frameworks for education created by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The practical part of the thesis is a questionnaire undertaken at the Faculty of Education among students of various departments. The questionnaire examines how the future teachers` education takes place and how they themselves assess their readiness to teach the subject. The main purpose of the thesis is to map and describe the current situation and to create incentives for future teachers so that the media literacy of Czech pupils gradually improves and becomes more effective.
Mediální výchova pohledem žáků

The aim of this diploma thesis is to map the importance of media education in general education and also to find out the way how pupils of the 2nd stage of elementary school and pupils of lower grade of multi-years grammar schools reflect the media education and at the same time to find out its benefit and usage in their real life. The theoretical part describes the basic knowledge that are connected with the theme of this work. The greatest emphasis is placed on the concept of media education in the Czech educational system. The practical part is focus on the results of the research which was made with the mentioned pupils. With the use of the interview with these pupils should be find out what is their opinion on the media education. Through their answers the author of this diploma thesis will try to outline if there is any difference in concept of media education between pupils of the elementary school and pupils of lower grade of multi-year grammar school. At the end of this work the author gives some suggestions for improvement and diversification of teaching media education that reacts on results found out in the research.
Musical education of children of primary school age

Dissertation deals with cross-curricular theme and its implementation to education subjects at the first stage of elementary school with focus on Music. In the first part of dissertation concentration is put on the position of Music in Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education and on requests concerning the implementation of cross-curricular theme as well as on current solution of the implementation of cross-curricular theme into a concrete school educational programme for Basic Education. The second part engages in proposition of implementation of some thematic circuits of cross-curricular theme into Music.
Cross-Curricular subjects in the teaching of mathematics at primary school

The diploma thesis "Cross-Curricular topics in the teaching of mathematics at primary schools" describes possible ways of involving personality and social education, education of a democratic citizen, education towards thinking in European and global contexts, multicultural education, environmental education and media education in primary school mathematics. The thesis is divided into a theoretical, practical and an evaluative section. The theoretical part of this thesis analyses domestic and foreign findings on cross-curricular topics, outlines the historical development of the curriculum in relation to this issue and characterizes the educational area of "Mathematics and its application RVP ZV". It further focuses on interconnecting particular cross-curricular subjects with mathematics and examines their integration in current mathematics schoolbooks. The practical part contains proposals of activities (methodical activity sheets) connecting the area of "Mathematics and its application" with cross-curricular topics. It further presents organizational teaching forms and work methods used in activities including their descriptions. The last part evaluates the application of the activities in practice in terms of the development of pre-assigned mathematical skills and knowledge and the involvement of thematic units of cross-curricular topics.
