Ecological validity of cognitive training research
Bláhová, Lucie ; Preiss, Marek (advisor) ; Viktorová, Ida (referee)
This Master thesis is focused on ecological validity of a cognitive training in university students. Forty-five students participated in three months research during which 30 of them took regular personalized cognitive training using CogniFit programme on their computers. The study examines the impact of the cogntitive training on everyday cognitive functioning of students. The scientific methods used for the ecological validity research were the following self-reporting questionnaires: Cognititive Failure Questionnaire, Everyday Memory Questionnaire and Dysexecutive Questinnaire. Students also filled in Schwartz Outcome Scale - 10 and Self-image questionnaire for detailed exploration of more variables. For the research, we applied test-retest design and used control group of fifteen students for results comparison. Analysis of the gathered data proved little evidence of ecological validity of cognitive training, which can be attributed to considerable cognitive stress at students. An unexpected outcome of the study which proved to be very significant is relation between executive functions and well-being of a student. This relation was confirmed repeatedly. Possible improvements of methodology and also problem with randomization of students is discussed. Proposal for the further development of...
Casuistry of physiotherapeutic care of patient with diagnosis ischemic stroke
Obešlo, Marek ; Říha, Michal (advisor) ; Hankovcová, Eva (referee)
Title: Casuistry of physiotherapeutic care of patient with diagnosis ischemic stroke. This bachelor thesis concerns in stroke. Thesis is divided into general and special part. General part consists of anatomy and physiology of cerebral blood supply, functions of cerebral lobes and remarkable ability of the nervous system - neuroplasticity. Second half of general part describes ischemic stroke - clinical state, pathophysiology, diagnostics, differential diagnostics and therapy. At the end of general part there is section devoting neurorehabilitation. In special part there is worked out casuistry of physiotherapeutic care of patient after ischemic stroke. This part of thesis works with data from practise which took place in Military university hospital from 7th January to 1st February 2013. Keywords: Cerebral blood supply, neuroplasticity, aphasia, physiotherapy, therapy and secondary prevention.
Experimental model of rats neurorehabilitation
Panas, Maria ; Angerová, Yvona (advisor) ; Matolínová, Vendula (referee)
Modern neurorehabilitation improves the quality of life for people with brain injury. An important role of modern physiotherapy is to apply all latest findings of brain neuroplasticity and to support and strengthen it. The theoretical part of my work focuses on the physiology and pathophysiology of the central nervous system, the definitions of neuroplasticity, its mechanisms and the possible uses in rehabilitation, and it looks at different types of neurorehabilitation and its foundation. My work also reviews various substances that can influence neuroplasticity. The practical part of my work describes a neurorehabilitation experimental model of laboratory rats and the resulting experimental outcomes.
The effectiveness of binaural beats to induce a relaxation states
VEJBOR, Roman
This bachelor thesis deals with studies of binaural beats, specially their effect on the signal, measured by EEG. The aim of this study was to investigate if binaural beats are an effective tool to induce relaxation states, namely increased brain actvity in the alfa and theta frequencies. The theoretical part describes electrical activity of the brain, the issue of binaural beats and researches related to this issue. Following several chapters are about neuroplasticity as a possible aspect of the effectiveness of binaural beats. Penultimate chapter mentions the question of consciousness and is also linked to altered states of consciousness. Conclusion of the teoretical part is focused on the method of electroencephalography. The practical part is devoted to a research project in which brain activity has been examined in experiment while listening to the two types of audio records. Record of relaxing music and record of relaxing music with binaural beats implemented. Research was attended by a total of thirteen college students of the University of South Bohemia. The sample was selected using the snowball method. Data were processed and analyzed in the program EEGlab and subsequently evaluated using a statistical method ANOVA and paired T -test. To depict results spectral analysis was used.
