Grave, Tombstone, Graveyard. The Range of Motifs of the Czech Painting of the 19th Century
Kučerová, Anežka ; Prahl, Roman (advisor) ; Konečný, Lubomír (referee)
(in English) This thesis called Grave, Tombstone, Graveyard. The Range of Motifs of the Czech Painting of the 19th Century is based on the analysis of paintings, drawings and graphics made by Czech authors throughout the 19th century. Artists worked with funeral motifs in different ways and these will be presented in different case studies. Some painters were fascinated by these subjects and they turned their attention to them systematically and repeatedly throughout their career. Other artists worked with funeral motifs rarely, although significantly. Artists integrated motifs of graves, monuments and cemeteries to their pieces of art for different purposes; this was connected with the interest of Romanticism in aesthetic anomalies and mystery, with their personal experience and feelings. Artists were also interested in genre scenes that were situated in cemeteries. Funeral motifs can be found in illustrated journals as well. Their aim was to document the specific place and as to symbolically express the finality of the life. The pieces of art will be presented in the context of the burial rites and literature of the 19th century. This phenomenon was also reflected by foreign artists, some of them will be also mentioned in the thesis as an analogy to the Czech works.
Úpravy hrobů a pietních míst
Dubcová, Eva
This bachelor thesis speaks about the principles regarding the arrangement of graves. The thesis sums the available information from reachable literature sources, it briefly discusses the history of the burying and it also provides information about the basics of funeral services and arrangements of graveyards and graves. Although it may seem that the grave arrangement is a quite separate category, it is tightly connected to many professional fields. It means that the professional care of a grave requires at least essential knowledge of the burying principles. The thesis contains also few chapters around the plant material topic, which is a natural part of the grave arrangement in the Czech Republic. In the practical part, 3 sample planting plans of the model object were designed.
Letničky a dvouletky na východočeských a jihomoravských hřbitovech
Kalousová, Iva
My thesis deals with species composition and assortment of ornamental annuals and biennials planted in cemeteries in the Krkonose and Kralicky Sneznik mountainous regions, in medium-elevation regions of East Bohemia and in the South Moravia lowlands. The Work also includes monitoring of the relevant species growing wild off the graves. Simultaneously, annual and biennial species of accompanying weeds have been monitored, their botanical classification has been carried out, as well, as comparison of their occurrence changes with available historical sources. Botanical research has been conducted in the total number of 130 visited cemeteries (48 in mountainous areas, 53 in medium-elevation areas and 29 in the South Moravia lowlands). 98 ornamental species and 150 weeds have been found there. Within the monitoring course, several endangered plant species according to the latest Red List of the Czech Republic Flora have been found. My work resulted in findings that there are no substantial differences in the species composition of plants grown in individual regions. Horticultural firms offer similar assortment. However, I have found differences in the accompanying weed vegetation composition. While cemeteries in South Moravia are maintained carefully, old cemeteries in the mountainous areas are often neglected and abandoned and they are penetrated by the surrounding vegetation.

Sepulchral Ironwork in Early Modern Bohemia. Ironwork and Sepulchral Environment between 1550-1740
Gandalovičová, Šárka ; Mádl, Martin (advisor) ; Macek, Petr (referee) ; Roháček, Jiří (referee)
The text deals with various types of ironwork from ca 1550-1740, which we can encounter in sepulchral spaces in Bohemia. The text includes notable examples of individual types of ironwork related to sepulchral monuments in Bohemia and even Central Europe, especially when the works were inspired by Bohemian examples. The main research subject matter of the dissertation is a typological group of ironwork that defined the space around a tombstone or mausoleum freely situated in a sacred environment, e.g. the most important cited work - the ironwork surrounding the Royal Mausoleum in Prague, or the ironwork surrounding the Cenotaph of Maxmilian I located in the Court Church of Innsbruck. Other types of ironwork related to sepulchral monuments are mentioned complementarily, such as ironwork closing off interior chapels, freely standing ironwork, and ironwork protecting sepulchral niches. Fantová, Růžena ; Janovec, Ladislav (advisor) ; Palkosková, Olga (referee)
The thesis describes all the inscriptions that one can see engraved into the gravestones on current cemeteries in Mikulov. We analyze the first and last names engraved into the gravestones but we focus primarily on epitaphs. In particular, we examine common epitaph themes, the number of their occurrences as well as linguistic errors that the inscriptions contain. In addition, we identify the most commonly quoted passages from the Bible, excerpts of poems, quotes of famous people and the time periods when they were most popular. Last but not least, we explore the symbolism and other nonverbal aspects of the gravestones. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Garden as an Aesthetic Object
Matějková, Magdalena ; Dadejík, Ondřej (advisor) ; Zuska, Vlastimil (referee)
This text is focused on garden as a specific object of aesthetic appreciation. Its first part discovers some of the specificities of this aesthetic object, among others, its high variability, unpredictability and complexity. Within an accordingly formed aesthetic experience, perceiver's attention is focused on the temporal dimension of experience and his reflection is intensified. The same happens while experiencing melancholy, which can therefore be considered for a specific aesthetic emotion. After these considerations, cemetery appears to be an ideal environment for an aesthetic experience of garden tinged with melancholy. The natural proximity between garden and cemetery is emphasized thanks to the secularisation of death which makes it easier to employ a scientific narrative in the constitution of aesthetic value of both garden and cemetery. Key terms Garden, melancholy, cemetery, environment, reflection, aesthetic experience
