Audience expectations in relation with film authenticity
Jelínek, Jakub ; BAGDASAROV, Georgy (advisor) ; Kratochvíl, Jaroslav (referee)
This study aims to examine the cosmos of mock-documentary films, that are trying to fool its audience throughout the acceptance of the form of real documentary films. By using the same stylistic elements they try to deprive the audience of its critical approach and make it believe. Through the analysis of those fictional mock-documentaries, we are going to reveal procedures used by many directors all over the world to create something what we call the illusion of the real. On the specific examples of "mockumentary" films, propaganda films and some conspiracy theory films, we will explore whether all of those film forms use the same procedures to convince their audience since they are all trying to achieve the same result – to create an ultimate vision of the real throughout the acceptance of visual and formal appearance of documentary film.

As a spectator I try to experience the story of music. As a creator I look for possibilities I have and can use. The goal is to point out the possibility to change the view on the genre with which every one of us meets as a spectator or as creator. I will always be influenced by my personal opinions, experience and preferences. The thesis points out the different possibilities how to understand term LIVE. Different rules and methods of processing formal as well as artistic. The audience will be recommended where and how LIVE should be meaningfully watched, thus determining the end viewer himself. Specific ways and possibilities of production allow a wide variety of processing of the resulting work. However, the creators should follow the principles and rules of filming without compromise, otherwise the quality of the result can be negatively affected. Thesis was written thank to consultations with specialists in the field, who very positively formed the result. From my musical taste and preferences in musical genres I've chosen the examples which could be pointed as average. Therefore this thesis should be understandable for the widest circle of readers.

Recent Chinese Independent Documentary film (1990-2018) and its Relantionship to Practice of Censorship
Honcoop, Haruna ; BENDOVÁ, Helena (advisor) ; LOMOVÁ, Olga (referee)
This diploma thesis describes the situation of independent documentary film in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) over the last three decades (1990–2018), dividing the period into three phases. Focusing on key filmmakers and their work, the thesis illustrates the obstacles and opportunities that independent filmmakers navigate when producing and distributing films outside of the system of censorship. The PRC’s censorship system is described in a short historical review which culminates in the recently-issued Censorship Law of 2017 and its practical provisions, thus clarifying the mechanisms of surveillance and regulation which affect how documentary filmmakers work. Important film festivals and centres of the independent documentary movement are described in chronological order, as well as the disappearance of such activities following the accession to power of the current ruling elite in 2012. Because recent conditions prohibit the free distribution of non-censored films, this thesis pays attention to important support provided by international documentary film festivals, their programmers and curators, and archivists and researchers from Western universities. Finally, the thesis analyzes filmmakers‘ reactions to the current situation, which range from ignorance and obedience, through self-censorship to protest resulting in imprisonment or exile. Finally, the thesis mentions the methods in totalitarian China of nowadays used in controlling the filmmakers and the complete society through digital technologies.
Right now is now!
Abramjan, Andran ; GOGOLA, Jan (advisor) ; VACHEK, Karel (referee)
The thesis deals with the use of absurdity in documentary cinema and its role in our understanding of the world. It defines the absurdity as an illusion of nonsense (or sense) which arises from removing various phenomena from their usual contexts and putting them together while forming a new, unusual context. These new contexts may not be entirely random and often have a specific function in a number of artistic works. By dissolving the illusion of the non/sense we can acquire a deeper insight into certain matters. But even if the illusion remains, the absurdity itself stimulates our imagination by questioning our patterns of perceiving the world. The author discusses various cases of absurdity that arise from ideologies, inventions, encounters of remote paradigms or contradictory information in the human mind and their use in documentary films, including his own works.
