Evaluating public state space abstractions in extensive form games with an application in poker
Moravčík, Matej ; Hladík, Milan (advisor) ; Zimmermann, Karel (referee)
Efficient algorithms exist for finding optimal strategies in extensive-form games. However human scale problems, such as poker, are typically so large that computation of these strategies remain infeasible with current technology. State space abstraction techniques allow us to derive a smaller abstract game, in which an optimal strategy can be computed and then used in the real game. This thesis introduces state of the art abstraction techniques. Most of these techniques do not deal with public information. We present a new automatic public state space abstraction technique. We examine the quality of this technique in the domain of poker. Our experimental results show that the new technique brings significant performance improvement. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Agent for playing Texas Hold'em poker
Bambušek, Petr ; Blažek, Jan (advisor) ; Majerech, Vladan (referee)
Main purpose of this thesis is to create agent for playing Texas Hold'em poker, which will be easily extensible by new inputs, outputs and game strategies. We present this firstly on input based on image recognition of client of chosen online poker site, secondly on simple game strategy based on expert system. Main working algorithm of agent will be encapsulated in single object and will run in separate thread. This will allow us to easily incorporate and manage agent from another programs, example way of managing and setting is presented on simple graphical application. The resulting agent can be further used as tool for testing and creation of new game strategies. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Legal regulation of internet gambling
Koula, Petr ; Vopálka, Vladimír (advisor) ; Staša, Josef (referee)
This thesis deals with online gambling and specifics of the legislation, which is in the Czech Republic regulated mainly by the Act No. 202/1990, the Lottery Act. After short introduction of the field, there is provided analysis of the latest amendment to the Lottery Act No. 300/2011 and its impact on the poker industry, particularly the online poker industry. Emphasis is placed on the conditions laid down for obtaining a license to operate in lotteries and other similar games, the tax aspects of poker for both operators and players and suitability of inclusion poker under the regime of the Lottery Act. The issue of cross-border gambling is in the European Union closely studied and in the coming years there is to be expected extensive harmonization, which will be based on the fundamental principles of free movement of goods, services, people and capital. In connection with the forthcoming harmonization, the author addresses the issue of incompatibility of the Czech Lottery Act with European law and draws the same conclusion regarding the draft Act on the Operation of gambling, which was originally approved with effect from 1st January 2013. After a brief excursion into the regulation of internet gambling in France and Greece, the author compares the local regulatory tools and instruments with those...
Game theory and poker
Schmid, Martin ; Hladík, Milan (advisor) ; Zimmermann, Karel (referee)
This thesis introduces the basic concepts of the game theory. Necessary models and solution concepts are described. Follows the summary of the computational complexity of these concepts and corresponding algorithms. Poker is formalized as one of the game theory game models. State of the art algorithms for the ex- tensive form games are explained with the application to the Poker. The thesis also introduces the Annual Computer Poker Competition and participating pro- grams. Finally, new result about the extensive form games with many actions is presented. Return of Investments and the Impact of Regulations on Poker Market
Lovicar, Adam ; Houška, Milan (advisor) ; Hlavatý, Robert (referee)
This bachelor work deals with analyzing of card game Poker, specifically its version Texas hold´em no limit. The theoretical part shows basic rules, mathematical and statistical indicators applied in the poker. This part defines the most important poker terms and concepts and especially helps to understand the practical part. Firstly the practical part deals with affiliation regulations and the impact on the economic situation of the player, secondly it deals with state regulations and the impact on the poker market. Playing field was divided into two groups, then was detected frequency of games against these groups into two periods. It was further examinated, if exists a difference between the game against professional and recrenational players, verified by statistical hypothesis testing. Economical indicator EV and ROI was used for following part to compare different results of the player PokerPro for each of the periods. In the last section of the practical part was created a prediction, which examinated the impact of the changes in the gambling law on the taxes, which should be payed to the state budget. The prediction was made on particular situation.
Financial and legal aspects of lotteries and similar games with a special regard to poker
Krasula, Vladimír ; Boháč, Radim (advisor) ; Marková, Hana (referee)
81 Abstract The thesis is focused on financial and legal aspects of lotteries and similar games with a special regard to poker layed down by act No. 202/1990 Coll., Act on Lotteries and Other Similar Games. Bets and games of chance are civil law parallels of lotteries and other similar games. Legislator doesnt provide them with the same margin of legal protection and determines them unenforceable. Lotteries and other similar games according to the Czech legislation have a characteristic element of chance. Author argues whether poker is a game of chance and tends towards the opinion, that poker doesnt fall within the scope of the lottery act in its current definition. Afterwards the thesis clarifies the legal requirements to obtain licence to operate lotteries and other similar games. Czech republic as a member of the European Union shall be subjekt to the european law, nevertheless Czech legislation prohibits the applicants for licence to have a foreign equity participation. Author therefore compares the decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union on gambling and tends towards the opinion that Czech legislation is in conflict with the European law. Lotteries and other similar games are closely connected with the tax and fee duties of the subjects. Thesis clarifies the new institute of lotteries...
Artificial intelligence for Texas Holdem poker game
Moravčík, Matej ; Petříčková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Sýkora, Ondřej (referee)
Recently there has been a great expansion of poker. This includes live games, as well as games on the internet. For beginners, it may be difficult to find opponents skilled enough and thus improve their gaming performance without deposit of their own funds. Using of artificial intelligence seems as good solution for the problem, but there are only few suitable programs available. This thesis describes the overall design and development of such an application, specially designed for tournament variant of Texas Hold'em poker. Most attention is devoted to the artificial intelligence. There are two main approaches discussed - approximate Nash equilibrium and the use of expert system. Emphasis is placed on the first option. The main contribution of this thesis is detailed description and comparison of three algorithms for calculating the approximation of Nash equilibrium. Two of them are original heuristics algorithms, that take advantage of specific structure of poker game. Algorithms have been implemented and their properties have been empirically evaluated. The final result is a full-featured application designed for end users. It simulates poker game and provides a powerful artificial intelligence with attractive graphical user interface.
Computer Poker
Kýpeť, Jakub ; Surynek, Pavel (advisor) ; Toropila, Daniel (referee)
The present work describes a design and an implementation of environment for playing Texas Hold'em poker, including design and implementation of a system that simulates a player of this game. This system consists of three developed strategies, using all resources described in the work. The various strategies that we have developed, we have tested on a few games. The results obtained from the tests are analyzed and then compared with our assumptions and expectations. This work also consists a description of existing programs that are about same topic and then comparation with our application.
