Historic heavy floods in Carlsbad and flood control of this world-famous spa town
Munzar, Jan ; Ondráček, Stanislav
The known spa town of Karlovy Vary (Carslbad), named after Emperor Charles IV (1316-1378) and situated along the lower reach of the Teplá River before its opening into the Ohře River, has been undoubtedly troubled by high water since the very beginning of its existence. The town location has always been connected with a great risk of floods. One of the best- documented old flood events is the disastrous flood from 9 May 1582 caused by cloud burst during a storm on the upper reach of Teplá R. Notable floods of the 19th century include e.g. the heavy flood of September 1821 and namely the disaster of November 1890 during which a considerable part of the spa was devastated.Immense flood losses whose rectification took a long time were a new impetus for discussions resulting in numerous proposals for the implementation of possible flood control measures in the future. Often mentioned was the need of building water reservoirs.World War I had delayed the implementation of these measures and the water reservoir at Březová was constructed on the Teplá River in order to protect the town as late as 1932-1936.

Perception of shape of minor objects by five-year old children
Skalová, Dana ; Kaslová, Michaela (advisor) ; Zapotilová, Eva (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the perception of shape of minor objects by five-year old children and further processing of such perceptions. The main objective of this thesis is to map how the children of this age distinguish the selected shapes, how they compare them, whether they are able to remember and identify them, which words they use when identifying the shapes, and what is the role of the way of perception itself in the identification process. To meet this objective the author applies the laboratory experiment method. The experiment was conducted in a kindergarten and the objects used were parts of building sets "Otíkova stavebnice" and "Netradiční stavebnice". The objects were of different shape, colour and size but the children were always able to hold them in one hand. The benefit of this thesis consists in its contribution to the present pre-school age literature, where such topics are still missing. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Old Czech medical terminology - names of diseases, their signs and symptoms

Deploying Protheses for Children
KARBUSICKÁ, Jana
This thesis named: "Problems of usage of prosthetic aids for children" focuses on the nursing care specifics of the child patient after an amputation. The Amputation is defined as removal of the peripheral portion of the body with an interruption of a bone and the soft tissues which allows subsequent prosthetic solution. Prosthesis is externally applied aid, which replace missing or underdeveloped part of a limb eventually the whole limb. The aim of the Prosthetic centers is to offer to its clients the exact prosthetic solution which could fully replace the function of a missing limb and allow the child to live full life without any limitations. The intention of the thesis was to summarize the problematic of the upper and lower limbs amputation into one publication and also to focus this thesis on children and prosthetic aids for them. The reason is that in Czech literature there is no complex information which focuses on specifics for children. The list of synoptic distribution of the types of prosthetic aids was created based on the level of amputation. A large part of this thesis deals with the nursing care, including rehabilitation after amputation and prosthetic solutions. The possibility of the children´s active life with prosthetic aids was mentioned, also how they coped with the loss of a limb. And then the specifics of the nursing care and the attitude of the nursing staff to children and their parents were mentioned too. In the research part of the thesis three aims were set: Find out the limitations or the changes in the family´s life style which has child with prosthesis and the limitations in child´s active life with prosthesis. Ascertain the specifics and the lacks of the nursing care during preparation of children for the prosthetic aid. Based on these following aims the research questions were set: How was the life style of the family with child with prosthetic aid affected? What are the limitations in child´s active life with prosthesis? What are the specifics of the nursing care during preparation of the child for the prosthetic aid? The empirical part of my thesis was processed with qualitative data analysis using technique of the unstructured in-depth interviews. The first research group consisted of seven respondents. Five out of them were parents of the children without the limb and two out of them were children without the limb itself, who were old enough to give us the trustworthy information. The information from the prosthetic technicians was followed with these interviews. The prosthetic technicians clarified us the questions which resulted from reaching the respondents who cannot have all theoretical knowledge regarding the issue. We hope that the results from this thesis will be benefit not only for the medical staff to improve the quality of the nursing care, but also for the respondents who can find the information which was missing till this time.

Seniors´ expectations of the residential & nursing home from provided services
KVASNIČKOVÁ, Markéta
Residential & nursing home is a residence facility that provides its users a comprehensive day care. Range of basic activities that are provided to users of the facilities, is stipulated by the law No.108/2006 Coll., on social services. Needs are a part of everyone's life. The needs happen to get changed in old age. The aim of the thesis was to find out what similarities and differences in users' expectations from provided services are in the residential & nursing home for the elderly. To achieve the research project, the qualitative research strategy was used and method of questioning, using a semi-structured interview techniques was chosen. The research sample included four users living in residential & nursing home for the elderly in Chynov, p.o.The first partial research question dealt with what expectations users have in an area of satisfaction of biological needs in relation to the service offered. The respondents are satisfied with the accommodation. Only one of the respondents does not like the accommodation because he/she is not alone in a single room. The respondents are satisfied with meals. Respondents sleep well in the residential & nursing home. One of the respondents gets disturbed while sleeping by a room mate who gets up early. In the field of hygiene two respondents need an additional help of the staff. One respondent suffers from urinary incontinence. Three respondents use compensatory aid when walking. One of the participants of the research minds walking on the wet floor that is very slippery. Other respondents do not see any obstacles in the residential & nursing home that would worsen their movement. Among the most common health problems there are primarily diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Respondents are very satisfied with health care. The second partial research question was addressed to what users´ expectations are in an area of meeting the mental health needs in relation to the service offered. Two respondents from the home environment and others from some residential care came to a residential & nursing home for the elderly. All respondents would recommend other people to stay in a residential & nursing home for the elderly. The respondents' answers suggest that the staff respect their privacy and intimacy. Most often the respondents find information about events on the residential&nursing home on the bulletin board or ask nurses. One of the respondents said they he/she does not know where to get information. To the question of how the respondents feel at the residential & nursing home for the elderly, some responded that they feel comfortable and safe, and others consider their stay in the facility as a necessity. The third partial research question was addressed to what users´ expectations are as to an area of satisfaction of social needs in relation to the service offered. The staff treat users well. One of the respondents had a conflict with one sister some time ago. All participants of the research have established some new friendships. All respondents agreed that there are enough social events in the facility.Among the interests of leisure there are listening to the radio, reading books, doing crossword puzzles and watching TV. The fourth research question was addressed to what users´ expectations are as to meeting the spiritual needs in relation to the service offered. All but one respondent know that there are worships in the residential & nursing home. One respondent says that meeting the spiritual needs of the facility is taboo. Only one of the respondents attends worships regularly at the facility. The respondents' answers suggest that the most common desire is to have a good health as long as possible. One of the respondents would like a single room. One research participant is thinking about death and says that his wish is to go to sleep one day and wake up no more yet.

Morphology and development of the midgut pathogens in bark beetle
TONKA, Tomáš
The bark beetle, Ips typographus is economically important pest of spruce standings across Europe. The knowledge of biology and ecology of bark beetles is important to protect spruce forests against beetles outbreaks. The research of pathogens of bark beetles is the main goal to use biological control of bark beetles and replace chemical or mechanical methods using today. During the bark beetle outbreak in Sumava mountains three main pathogens showed up very promising. Microsporidium Chytridiopsis typographi, the virus Ips typographus Entomopoxvirus and negregarine Menzbieria chalcographi were the most occured pathogens attacking beetles in Sumava outbreak area. Transmission of microspo ridium and virus have been introduced and propagated in living bark beetles in labo ratory. The reaserach of biology, transmission, morphogenesis and ultrastructure of these pathogens begun in living beetles in laboratory conditions. Results which were obtained can be divided to virological and microsporidian parts. In both cases the infection and routine passage have been successful in laboratory condition and now the infections of microsporidium Ch. typographi nad ITEV are routinely propagated to purchase infected material. Unlike the original description of ITEV in laboratory infected beetles the synthesis and origin of microspindles was described. In TEM the first steps of newly formed virions occluded into the spheroid were observed, including microspindles occlusion. ITEV develops in midgut epithelium of host. The successful infection of Ch. typographi has been managed in laboratory. Obtai ned results completed and revised findings which were published in first descriptions. Purchased results offer a possibility to compare old a new findings concernig this microsporidium. Budding as a unique process of multiplication has been described in microsporidia. This process is uncommon in microsporidia and has not never been observed. It acts as a tool to multiple vegetative stages in the life cycle. The ultrastructures and complete life cycle was described in Ch. typographi and the former description was revised.

The Overture to the First Version of the Opera King and Charcoal Burner
Myslivcová, Eva
The issue of different versions of works of music is one that is discussed in the case of Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904), and in a certain sense it is connected with the theme "old and new", when an older, earlier, or first version becomes the basis for a newer one. This text focuses on a specific example of different versions, that of the overture to the first setting of Dvořák's opera King and Charcoal Burner from the year 1871. An overture which, as an integral part of the opera, was based on the musical material contained in the work, which eventually was never performed. And at the same time an overture that was the only part of this opera to "survive", was later transformed by the composer himself to a concert overture and thus became an independent work, while the opera's libretto was set to new music. This is in a nutshell the rather complicated genesis of the opera King and Charcoal Burner, during which the Concert Overture in F Major took shape as a new composition, created from the musical material of an old one.
