Smokers' knowledge about tobacco dependence treatment possibilities
Trefanec, Jan ; Králíková, Eva (advisor) ; Pánková, Alexandra (referee)
Background: Most smokers would like to get rid of their addiction, but have not sufficient knowledge about treatment options. According to research in 2011 in the Czech Republic, there are 29.1% of smokers and about than 60% of them considered quitting smoking. Objective: To investigate awareness of teatment options of tobacco dependence. The greatest source of information about treatment options was television (68%), doctor or pharmacist at least (8% 4% respectively). Discussion: In the future it would be appropriate to extend...
Tobacco Dependence Treatment and Depressive Disorder. Treatment Outcomes in Patients with Depression History
Štěpánková, Lenka ; Králíková, Eva (advisor) ; Šteflová, Alena (referee) ; Tuček, Milan (referee)
Success rate of tobacco dependence treatment among patients with and without a history of depression Introduction: Higher prevalence of smoking among depressive patients, as well as higher risk of depression in smokers, are well documented. Views on treatment of tobacco dependence in this subgroup of smokers are controversial. Aim: A/ To compare the abstinence rate among smokers with or without a history of depression receiving treatment for nicotine dependence at one year follow up. B/ Factors associated with treatment success were evaluated and analysed. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 1 730 smokers treated at our Centre for Tobacco-Dependent (CTD) between 2005 and 2010 was conducted. Patients were treated with a combination of psychobehavioural interventions and pharmacotherapy (nicotine replacement therapy, varenicline, bupropion or combinations). At one year follow-up smoking abstinence was biochemically validated by measuring expired CO. Results: 16.7 % (289/1730) of smokers currently, or had formerly, received treatment for depression. Based on the average Fagerström Test of Nicotine Dependence (FTND), most patients with a history of depression were heavily nicotine dependent with a score of 6.1, compared to 5.6 (p=0.010) among those without a history of depression. The CO validated success rate...
Application of the Wisconsin Inventory of Smoking Dependence Motives (WISDM-68) for coaching in the domain of quitting smoking
Šmejkalová, Andrea ; Niederlová, Markéta (referee) ; Šípek, Jiří (referee)
This thesis is based on a succesfully defended master's thesis dealing with the possibility of using psychological coaching as a support method for smoking cessation. The theoretical section provides an overview of key information on the topics of coaching and smoking, with an emphasis primarily on the aspects applied in the qualitative research project, the description of which constitutes the content of the empirical section. On the basis of the author's preconceived original design which, in addition to the diagnostic and evaluation phases, comprised the essential stage of the three-month long coaching of nine smokers in different stages of the cessation process, the author sought to map the potential benefits, advantages and other aspects of the use of coaching as an innovative method, thusfar not commonly included among the established alternatives offered as smoking cessation intervention techniques. The main contribution of this thesis is a focus on The Wisconsin Inventory of Smoking Dependence Motives (WISDM-68) and its use in smoking cessation coaching. The whole process is illustrated by the newly introduced sample case study. Keywords: coaching, smoking, tobacco dependence, smoking cessation, quitting smoking, smoking dependence diagnostics, WISDM-68, The Wisconsin Inventory of Smoking...

We completed a questionnaire based on data we obtained during semi-structured inteviews with patients and by measuring exhaled carbon monooxide concentration and we processed them using methods of descriptive and mathematical statistics. The Objectives and Effectiveness of Primary Tobacco Addiction Prevention within Elementary Schools in České Budějovice.
PODLENOVÁ, Kateřina
This bachelor´s thesis ?The Objectives and Effectiveness of Primary Tobacco Addiction Prevention within Elementary Schools in České Budějovice? deals with the evaluation of specific primary tobacco addiction prevention in elementary schools in České Budějovice and an analysis of policies used by school prevention methodologist in order to assess the effectiveness of exercised prevention. The primary prevention of social pathological phenomena is conducted according ?Minimal Prevention Scheme?, which each school is obliged to prepare and evaluate in ?The Final Report of Minimal Prevention Scheme Fulfilment?. I employed qualitative research, interviews, structured interviews with open questions, and content analysis of the data of Minimal Prevention Schemes. The research group consists of school prevention methodologist from ten elementary schools (both junior and senior) in České Budějovice. I have suggested five hypotheses based on the research and specialised literature. Hypothesis 1: Effective forms of primary prevention are not being sufficiently deployed in the České Budějovice elementary schools. Hypothesis 2: Primary tobacco addiction prevention is not continual or systematically planned. Hypothesis 3: Parents fail to cooperate with the tobacco preventiv program. Hypothesis 4: Evaluation of primary tobacco addiction prevention is not being carried out in the České Budějovice elementary schools. Hypothesis 5: Primary tobacco addiction prevention in České Budějovice elementary schools is not effective due to the heavy workload of school prevention methodologist and the lack of time to plan primary prevention. In order to improve the effectivaness of primary tobacco addiction prevention I recommend participation in one of the national anti-smoking programmes, improvement of cooperation with parents and a the implementation of school prevention methodologist as an independent position.
