Father Josef Plojhar and his Political Activity in the years 1945-1981

- Oral-history: pamětníci - "Plojhariana ". Sluší se hned na počátku vysvětlit, proč vlastně diplomová práce pojednává o páteru Josefu Plojharovi. Následující řádky nejsou jen vysvětlující, ale zároveň i úvodní. Řekne-li se jméno Josef Plojhar, většina z nás si je spojí s událostmi Vítězného února roku 1948. Doboví pamětníci nebo zasvěcenější lidé doplní... že byl ministrem zdravotnictví... zjevem nepřehlédnutelný robustní muž... chodil jako kněz s kolárkem... byl dlouholetým předsedou Československé strany lidové... S odstupem doby už pomalu nedokážu odlišit, jestli si téma vybralo mne nebo naopak. Poprvé jsem se v širších souvislostech se jménem Josef Plojhar setkal na stránkách exilového periodika Nový život.1 V jednom z vysokoškolských výběrových historických seminářů jsem měl příležitost zpracovat téma, které mne v tu dobu zajímalo - II. vatikánský koncil, tedy obraz II. vatikánského koncilu na stránkách exilového periodického tisku. Z mnoha důvodů nakonec zamýšlená seminární práce nevznikla. Při shromažďování materiálů a podkladů v knihovně Libri prohibiti se přede mnou otevřely stránky zmíněného časopisu Nový život - a s nimi i pohled zvenčí na dění v katolické církvi konce 50. a začátku 60. let v komunistickém Československu.31 bez černého kněžského obleku byl Josef Plojhar ve většině článků líčen...

European Referendums and the Kingdom of Sweden

Bachelor thesis "European Referendums and the Kingdom of Sweden" deals with the specific relationship of Sweden towards the process of the European integration. Time frame extends from the second half of the 20th century until 2009. I aim to name the values recognized as traditional by the Swedish society and to depict the changes they went through during the post cold war period. Through the analysis of historical, social and political factors that influenced the results of both European referendums that took place in Sweden in this dynamic period I get to answers to the following questions: whether the Swedish society is persuaded that the membership of its country in the European Union is advantageous for it and what is the reason for its ambivalent view of the EU.

Borda rule as an alternative to other types of ordinal majoritarian electoral systems

This thesis focuses on the less studied electoral systems, which are called ordinal. These methods allow the voters to order the candidates according to their preferences. The work provides a historical insight into this issue with regard to economics and political science theories, based on the concept of the Condorcet winner. Condorcet winner is the person who defeats all other candidates in pairwise elections and by theorists of the electoral system is the ability to choose the Condorcet winner essential. The work examines three electoral methods - alternative and suplementary vote and Borda rule. These electoral systems are analyzed in terms of effects to system of political parties, political actors and the electorate, with the emphasis on the utilization rate of preferential votes. These aspects are examined on the basis of the actual election results obtained from the website of the electoral commissions and independent institutions. Based on these data, a mathematical model that compares the effects of electoral systems is then created. The conclusion summarizes the results of the analysis and the author expresses further recommendations to address these electoral methods, not only professionally and scientifically, but also as real alternatives for real election.

Karel Sabina, a prose-writer and a literary critic

V diplomové práci jsem se zaměřila na díla Karla Sabiny - na prózy zajímavé z hlediska vývoje české prózy 19. století. Na jednotlivá období Sahibovy tvorby jsem pohlížela i v souvislostech s jeho životními osudy a s politickými událostmi 19. století. Soustředila jsem se na prózy, které ovlivnily tehdejší českou literaturu. Pokusila jsem se ukázat jeho šíři aktivit v oblasti literární, politické a společenské. Karel Sabina byl rozporuplnou osobností, avšak svou tvorbou byl vždy na předních pozicích vývoje. Činnost řečníka, politického tribuna lidu a spolu s naukově politickou publicistikou spoluurčovaly celkový ráz jeho tvorby prozaické. Byl teoretikem romantismu, vykladačem díla Karla Hynka Máchy, beletristou, autorem libret, literárním kritikem a publicistou.

Libuše Bráfová - attitudes towards living in family circumstances

Libuše Bráfová, whose maiden name was Riegrová, was born on 20th of June 1860 in Prague. Her grandfather was František Palacký, famous Czech historian of 19th century and her father was an important politician, František Ladislav Rieger. In addition, her family belonged to Czech cultural elite of this time. Libuše spent her childhood on either at Mac Neven's Palace in Prague or the family summer residence in Maleč near Chotěboř. When she was eleven (in 1871), she started to go to a girlish school. After finishing it, four years later, she went to Switzerland to study languages in a boarding school in St.Gallen. She stayed there for several months, but her foreign studies were not over yet. After one year she arrived to France (in Morges) to study. She had been given a many-sided education. Libuše Riegrová spoke French, German, English and Russian language, she had lessons in History, Literature, Theology, Geography, Mathematics, Accounting and many more. Her drawing teacher was Amalie Manesová. She also visited shool of piano play. She was brought up in Bolzanos creed, but her faith was not so strong as her siste's, Marie. Libuše Riegrová had cultured interests. Libuse was a passionate reader and regular spectator of theatre plays. When she was about eighteen, she started to visit balls and society...

Maecenases of Daniel Adam from Veleslavín

In my study I focus on the persons who are the recipients of the book-dedications which were written by Daniel Adam from Veleslavín. This printer and writer owned one of the most significant and productive book-printer in the 16th Century Bohemia. I had tried to research the life stories of this persons, political careers, privat interests, religion and other factors which could be the reasons for this book-dedications. Not at last I was interested whether this persons had any personal relationship with the printer or whether they lived in the same social environment. The stories of book-dedications are accompanied by the picture of contemporary social and cultural lifestyle with the special focus on the book culture.

Nunneries of Upper Lusatia between spiritual and secular power in the 16th and 17th century

Convents of Upper Lusatia in the 16th and 17th century between sacral and secular power Out of the various religious and church structures of Upper Lusatia, the presented thesis focuses on the local women's religious Catholic houses, on the Cistercian convents of Marienthal and Marienstern, and the penitent sisters of Mary-Magdalene's convent in Lauban and on their domains. The period of interest is mostly 16th and 17th century. These abbeys are the only catholic institutions which have survived up to this day in the mainly protestant area. The introductory debate about monasteriologic research and about the possibilities of applying modern historical methods to the field are followed by an overview of the research dedicated to the area - both from the local and general German, or even Czech point of view. Careful analysis of the utilised resources follows. In assessing the factors that allowed the coexistence of institutions firmly tied to the Catholic Church and of the Protestant majority, it was first necessary to investigate the role of convents in the local society and to explore the earlier pre-reformation events. Domnívám se, že v zásadě je možný trojí přístup ke zkoumání toho, co samo sebe nazvalo "sametovou (něžnou) revolucí". Značný a stále rostoucí počet autorů věnuje pozornost komparativní analýze pádu komunistických režimů ve středovýchodní Evropě roku 1989. Největší předností komparací, které nebývají založené na archivním bádání, je široký záběr mapující celý politický terén někdejší "jiné Evropy". Cena kvalitních studií - většinou politologické provenience - spočívá v neotřelých postřezích, v odhalování zajímavých analogií, totožností i rozdílů. Inspirativní i provokativní teze podněcují diskusi, vybízejí k souhlasné i nesouhlasné reakci. Vnášejí do ní novou terminologii, metodické inovace a interpretační hypotézy, které okysličují bádání založené výhradně na archivních pramenech.1 Zatímco komparativní analýza vychází z horizontální perspektivy, historické bilancování je založeno na perspektivě vertikální. Krouží kolem podstatných otázek souvisejících tak či onak se zlomovými body česko-slovenských dějin: ... 1918 - 1938 - 1939 - 1945 - 1948 - 1968 - 1989 - 1992 ...
