Demand for cinemas - what determines the consumer behaviour?
Řeháková, Petra ; Mičúch, Marek (advisor) ; Kovanda, Lukáš (referee)
The main aim of this diploma thesis is to identify the determinants of behavior of demand for multiplexes in Prague. The main building material is the dataset of attendance and revenues evolution for individual movies distributed between years 2002 and 2011, always for the first four weeks from the premiere, provided by the Union of Film Distributors. The paper investigates consumer behavior on the movie market. The demand for movies is the dependent variable measured by the number of visitors in the corresponding weeks. The subject of analysis -- explanatory variable - is price, film rating (critics), genre, country of origin, character of time frame, frequency of screenings in a given week, format (2D/3D), length of movie, popularity of the actor/director, impact of movie series etc. The data are exposed to the regression according to which the significance of different variables is tested. The hypothesis about strong negative correlation of the price and quantity demanded is investigated based on the results, (Dewenter R., Westermann M., 2005) versus the hypothesis of weak sensitivity those two variables (Sangho Kim, 2009) against a more significant relationship of demand and other determinants. The influence of price on attendance has shown to be insignificant on the Prague movie market in the short term. A significant determinant impacting the attendance for a movie in the entire monitored period is the film rating, actor, length of movie, and number of screenings.
Art expression of elderly people
SOUČKOVÁ, Michaela
This bachelor work focuses on the use of art - therapeutical methods in working with seniors. The theoretical section of the work depicts the main psychological attributes of getting old, which can be reflected in the expression of an art work of the elderly. In the first part of the theoretical section the changes of cognitive and sensitive sphere, which begin in the old age, are described. Further, the changes of motion ability, intelligence, emotions and personality are described. The work also touches the topic of degenerative diseases. The second part outlines negative consequences of social changes in this lifetime. The last part of the theoretical section is devoted to art therapy and its use in the work with seniors. The practical section explores the expression of art work of seniors with its typical characteristics. A qualitative research was made to find out the way of processing, level of art performance, colorfulness, presence of details and working with them etc.

Corporate income tax revenues in OECD countries and factors influencing them
Říhová, Lucie ; Kubátová, Květa (advisor) ; Vančurová, Alena (referee) ; Široký, Jan (referee)
The purpose of this thesis is to run a panel regression analyzing the impact of economic, legislative and social factors on corporate tax revenues, as defined by existing empiric and theoretic literature. Literature which directly addresses factors influencing corporate income tax revenues is quite limited -- in respect of number of papers as well as in respect of the range of examined countries and/or time period. The latest and key papers include among others Clausing (2007), Devereux (2006) and partly Kenny, Winer (2006) and Gropp, Kostial (2000). Presented thesis on the other hand covers observations for all OECD countries for a rather long time period 1980 -- 2006. This thesis should address all important factors having influence on corporate income tax revenues, including tax avoidance and debt financing. The results of the analysis largely correspond to existing investigations of other authors; however, presented regression is of more complex and general character -- it includes other factors of tax avoidance and data for all OECD members (except for some variables which are not available), including post-communist countries.
Trust in Economics
Priesemeister, Juliane ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Fíglová, Zuzana (referee)
In the ongoing debates about the reasons and impacts of the financial crisis 2008, trust is supposed to play a relevant role. Unaware of this future happening the economic researchers Paul J. Zak and Stephen Knack published a paper in the late 90's, where they tried to find a correlation between economic growth and trust. Their applied model proved that there is a connection between the level of confidence and the economic wellbeing, represented by GDP growth. If this is still the case, after the dramatic damages of the worlds financial systems, and if the model is adoptable to prove again the correlation with today's data, is the content of this thesis. With the help of a regression calculation not all the findings of Zak and Knack could be confirmed. Some show an opposite development, some have still the same impact and others are not statistical significant. But nevertheless it demonstrates that trust, and its determinants, are correlated to the economic progress of a country. Moreover is proved that trust can be influenced - negatively, by high degree of inequality, and positively, with a low degree of bribery and economic discrimination.
Analysis of occurrence of extremes in a time series with a trend
Volf, Petr
We consider a random series of values and are interested in the analysis and modeling the occurrence of extremes. One of approaches is the analysis of sequence of block maxima. As we assume that the series has a trend, we first select a proper regression model for the block maxima development. From it, a Markov chain of the sequence of extremes is derived. As the transition probabilities of the chain are not tractable analytically, we use the Monte Carlo generation of the chain behavior. Then, from the sample representing the series of block maxima we obtain the rediction of their future behavior.
Srovnání modelů regresních a neuronových sítí v modelu oceňování s heterogenními očekáváními
Vošvrda, Miloslav ; Krtek, Jiří
The competition of four forecasting strategies in artificial market is studied in this paper. The enviroment of the market is modeled by adaptive belief system. Two neural networks were included in the quaternary of forecasting strategies. They were compared with rule of thumb and linear regression.
A curve template for I-V characteristics of the solar cells
Fejfar, Antonín
The contribution describes a computer program for manual fitting a theoretical dependence of the current flowing through a solar cell on the voltage in a way corresponding to flexible curve templates. The template provides handles "attached" to the curve for intuitive and independent manipulation of the parameters. This makes it possible to judge the sensitivity of the fit to the individual parameters.
Philosophy of mathematical modelling and the least weighted squares
Víšek, Jan Ámos
Philosophy of mathematical modelling, heuristics of models, interpretation of results etc. is discussed. The idea of implicit weighting - firstly used by Least Weighted Squares - is explained and commented.
