Foreign Students in Czechoslovakia from 1960s and 1970s: Social Life and Relations to the Czechoslovak Population
Medvecová, Mária ; Pullmann, Michal (advisor) ; Cajthaml, Petr (referee)
This work focuses on foreign college students in former Czechoslovakia, coming from so-called developing countries. It portrays the students' daily life, their relationships and conflicts, as well as their coexistence alongside the Czechoslovak population. Firstly, it will be necessary for us to pinpoint the subjects the foreigners studied, and then identify university archives used as research sources (tentatively, sources are available from Charles University and the Universita 17. listopadu university in Prague). Besides their studies, this work focuses on the students' life at the dormitories, their conflicts, and their cultural and social life. The research will, naturally, have to be put into context of Czechoslovakia's strategies and ambitions in the international politics, especially in relation to the so- called developing countries. This B.A. thesis called "The reaction of the Czechoslovak and East German leadership on the crisis of the 1980s" deals with the situation in Czechoslovakia and the GDR, two countries similar in many of their characteristics, in the period of 1985-1989, when these communist regimes were facing a crisis caused by a complex of economic, social and political reasons. Firstly the main three fields in which the problems of both regimes manifested are defined - economic difficulties, relation between the leadership and the society and the crisis of elites. Procházková, Lenka ; Konrád, Ota (advisor) ; Vilímek, Tomáš (referee)
Bachelor thesis Opposition in the GDR and its Connection to the Czech Dissent. Mutual Contacts at the Turn of 1970s and 1980s offers a new point of view on the oppositional movement in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, as it is based on the comparison with the oppositional movement in Czechoslovakian Socialistic Republic (CSSR). The work concentrates on the contacts between the representatives of the opposition from both countries and on the possible topics of their cross-border cooperation in the period between the Final Act of the Conference of Security and Cooperation in Europe in 1975 and the election of Mikhail Gorbachev as the leader of the Soviet Union in 1985. Although the traditions of the East German oppositional movement were different to the traditions of the opposition in the CSSR, there were intensive contacts between both groups (usually individual) at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. One of the crucial topics of the East German oppositional movement was the question of peace. The space for moulding of the independent peace movement (and later also for other civic initiatives) was created under the protection of the East German protestant church, which was the only institution that was independent from the state structures. There was no such...
