Design of a contemporary urban district in the context of a historic city - urban study
Stanislavová, Soňa ; Obrtlík, Jan (referee) ; Májek, Jan (advisor)
The aim of the thesis is to design a high quality timeless urban district or part of the city, in relation to the existing historic city. The area in question is located in the historic centre, which is also a conservation area. The site contains both urban landmarks and historic buildings. However, most of the buildings were built after 1945, when the town was largely bombed out. The main idea of the design is to respect the existing structure. The design complements the existing buildings and creates new blocks that clearly define public and private space. Other elements include making public spaces more attractive, revitalising traffic areas and improving pedestrian infrastructure. The newly proposed development is predominantly residential in nature and should increase interest in living in the city for young people and businesspeople.
Make Partizánska Ľupča great again!
Likavčanová, Lucia ; ArtD, Tomáš Boroš, (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
Proposal of an urban-architectural study for Partizánska Ľupča presents an idea of converting the village center and the Pergler Mill. The proposal responds to the weakening of connections between the public space and its users and aims to restore the interrupted continuity while respecting the unique historical context of the locality. The first part of the proposal deals with the story of the square, the transformation of its functional content over time, and the attempt to reintegrate it into the lives of the inhabitants through minor interventions and reorganization of spatial arrangement. It seeks to find an answer to the complex question of adapting the public space of Ľupča, which has undergone historical development from a pulsating market square of a significant medieval town to today’s form of an empty large paved area in the center of the village. The second part of the proposal is dedicated to the Pergler Mill located on the southwest edge of the square. The transformation of one of the most technically preserved mills in the territory of the Czech Republic and Slovakia aims to reintegrate it into the village’s structure. The last part of the proposal is dedicated to Ľupčianka, a stream that flows from the beginning to the end of the village. Once a significant part of the lives of the inhabitants, it is now an almost invisible element. The ambition of the interventions is not to restore its past use but to bring a new perspective on the potential of this forgotten part of public space. The interventions represent visions of how to complement these places and initiate new experiences and emotions.

Between the walls and the river
Šulganová, Lucia ; Plášil, Jiří (referee) ; Boháč, Ivo (advisor)
The aim of the bachelor's thesis "Between the walls and the river" was the design of a new multi-functional development with a predominant residential function, complemented by a varied composition of services and commercial spaces, suitable for the central city zone. The study also included checking the possibility of incorporating an important landscape element of the river's biocorridor into the urban structure. The addressed area is located in the town of Vyškov in South Moravia and is defined by Dvořákova, Antonínská and Dukelská streets. From the north, it is defined by the Haná river, which flows through the city. On the opposite side of Dvořákova Street, which borders the territory from the southwest, there is a remnant of the city walls. The concept is based on 9 apartment buildings divided into two blocks. The effort was to create a subtle development of three to four-story houses with gable roofs, which by their character will not disturb the atmosphere of a small town in a location close to the historic center.
The Building on Obilní trh
Holbová, Natália ; Petruš, Lukáš (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (advisor)
The Obilný trh is an unmissable public space in the image of the city of Brno. However, its southern part has not yet been completed and hides a huge potential for the development of the city and its public institutions. The form of public administration and its offices are facing long-term criticism. There are minimal examples of modern, open, flexible and sustainable public buildings. Social discourse is calling for them more and more, and architects must have an answer ready for them.

Franciscan Monastery and Roman Square in Brno
Bulej, Marek ; Tabarka, Miloslav (referee) ; Hrabec, Josef (advisor)
Diploma thesis deals with the new use of the former Franciscan monastery and the modification of the so-called Roman Square in Brno. This district was once Jewish quarter and still has a unique genius loci. The main new function of the monastery is a new branch of the diocesan museum. The Roman Square is a set of diverse places no longer found in the center of Brno. Interventions in its structure are kept to a minimum, in particular the addition of buildings at the gaps. A valuable passage element in the northeastern sector remains accessible through the arcade on the ground floor of the block of flats no. 2. In addition, a new passage will be created in the northwest sector with a covered market. Thanks to these interventions, the whole space of the square will be revived and made more attractive with regard to monument restoration.
