Conics around us
ŠAFÁŘOVÁ, Denisa
This Bachelor's thesis is focused on curves around us. Primarily emphasizes conics and their presence in the real world. They can appear for example in architecture, engineering or nature. Individual conics and their properties are defined in the first part. There are also definitions of chosen algebraic curves. The text is interleaved by pictures made in GeoGebra. The second part is based on identification of conics and chosen curves on photographs using GeoGebra. The theoretical knowledge like algebraic proof that it is a given conic is used for some photographs.
Algebraic Curves in History and School
Fabián, Tomáš ; Kvasz, Ladislav (advisor) ; Jančařík, Antonín (referee)
TITLE: Agebraic Curves in History and School AUTHOR: Bc. Tomáš Fabián DEPARTMENT: The Department of mathematics and teaching of mathematics SUPERVISOR: prof. RNDr. Ladislav Kvasz, Dr. ABSTRACT: The thesis includes a series of exercises for senior high school students and the first year of university students. In these exercises, students will increase their knowledge about conics, especially how to draw them. Furthermore, students can learn about two unfamiliar curves: Conchoid and Quadratrix. All these curves are afterwards used for solving other problems - some Apollonius's problems, Three impossible constructions etc. Most of the construction is done in GeoGebra software. All the tasks are designed for students to learn how to work with this software. The subject discussed is put into historical context, and therefore the exercises are provided with historical commentary. The thesis also includes didactic notes, important or interesting solutions of exercises, possible issues, mistakes and another relevant notes. KEYWORDS: conic, circle, ellipse, parabola, hyperbole, conchoid, quadratrix, trisecting an angle, squaring the circle, rectification of the circle, doubling a cube, Apollonius's problem, GeoGebra

Secondary school conics with internet
Effenberger, Věra
Title: Utilization of the internet by teaching conics at high school Author: Bc. Věra Effenberger Department: Department of Mathematics Education Supervisor: RNDr. Jana Hromadová, Ph.D. Supervisor's e-mail address: Jana.Hromadova@mff.cuni.cz Abstract This diploma thesis is dealing with conics' problems. It is mainly destined for high school (or university) teachers of descriptive geometry and for students too. It can by used in aid of education of conics or by self-study, because it includes many of illustrative pictures and dynamic applets made in the program GeoGebra, which support the written theoretical text. In the work are enumerated definitions, properties and various constructions of individual conics. Further there is their origin as an intersection of a right circular cone (as the case may be of a right circular cylinder) with a plane, their osculating circle and conjugate diameters. Compilation of examples constitutes an addition of this work. The examples have various difficulty and also can serve as a control over got knowledge. Keywords: ellipse, hyperbola, parabola, foci, tangents, normals, construction of conics
Havel and Brynda's play Life Ahead and her adaptation at the Sklep (Cellar) Theatre
Burešová, Denisa ; Topolová, Barbara (advisor) ; Sarkissian, Alena (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to find all available information about the circumstances of the creation of Havel's and Brynda's play Život před sebou (Life Ahead) from 1958 as well as about its staging in context of military creativity. A further aim is to compare the original manuscript with the textual adaptation by Jiří Fero burda, Jan Slovák and David Vávra called Mlýny (The Mills), which focuses mainly on the method of reversing the polarity of the meanings of the plays' thematic plan. The main part of the thesis is dedicated to the analysis of the most famous production of theatre Sklep, Mlýny, first staged on March 9, 1991 and played by the same actors until today. Drawing from the secondary literature, this thesis also presents information about the birth of Divadlo Sklep and other ensembles of the Prague Five and their main artistic techniques in the context of Czech theatre during the normalisation period, exploring also the fundamental change which came after 1989. The main material for the analysis of the staging was, besides the newspaper reviews and recordings of the performances, mainly my own viewer's experience and an interview with the authors themselves.
Jan Mikulášek's Directions of Ibsen
Černá, Johana ; Topolová, Barbara (advisor) ; Christov, Petr (referee)
The object of this bachelor thesis is a detailed analysis of two productions of Henrik Ibsen's plays - Hedda Gabler (National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, 2008) and The WildDuck (Petr Bezruč Theatre, 2009), which were staged by one of the most remarkable contemporary Czech theatre director, Jan Mikulášek. Based on her own spectatorial experience authoress tries to describe the work with the single theatrical components in the productions, expresses director's interpretation of the plays and emphasizes the typical features of Mikulášek's style. In conclusion she compares the productions and points out their diferences despite the similar poetics they were staged in.

A contrastive study of hyperbole in Czech and English. A corpus-based study
Macháčková, Anežka ; Klégr, Aleš (advisor) ; Čermák, Jan (referee)
The aim of this study is to compare and contrast the use of hyperbole or exaggeration in spoken Czech and English language. The research is based on comparative approach to two samples accounting for 100 hyperbolic instances in Czech and 100 instances of hyperbole in English. The Czech sample has been randomly excerpted from the oral part of the Czech National Corpus ORAL2008, whereas the English sample has been randomly excerpted from the "spoken context-govern" and "spoken demographic" sections of The British National Corpus. The two samples are subject to analysis. Firstly, the formal realization of hyperbole is examined. Secondly, the occurrences are classified semantically (quantitative versus qualitative hyperbole) and, thirdly, the lexico-semantics is examined (hyperbolic source domains). By this, the present study tests the hypothesis of universal hyperbolic source domains by examining the situation in Czech and English. Finally, the occurrence of conventionalized instances of hyperbole as opposed to creative instances of hyperbolic nonce-usages is examined. Last but not least, it is the aim of this study to provide the overall frequency figures of hyperbole in both languages.
Geometry in architecture
BÁRTOVÁ, Michaela
The reader will understand the relationship between geometry and everyday life. Selected curves and bodyes are mathematically described. It is illustrated with photos of architectural elements. 3D models are made in GeoGebra and SketchUp. Blending theory and practice to help understand the geometry. It can be used for teaching math and geometry. This thesis discusses about the conic, selected technical curves and quardics.
Quadratic surfaces and conics around us
CUKROVÁ, Jana
This thesis introduces the conics and their occurrence, ,,around us". It also refers to the interconnection of geometry and normal life. The first part describes the theoretical basic of conics, their equations and construction options. Theory is complemented by figures that I created using GeoGebra. The second part presents a collection of photographs various types of conics ,,around us?, for example conics in nature, architecture, etc. These conics I then analyzed in the program GeoGebra.
