The Role of the Military in the United States Foreign Policy Process
Paták, Jiří ; Raška, Francis (advisor) ; Anděl, Petr (referee)
The aim of this thesis is the Role of the Military in the United States Foreign Policy Process. In the midst of the American military engagement in Iraq, Afghanistan and the escalating crisis with the Iranian regime, arguments are often raised that the Military has acquired too much power over the U.S. foreign policy. More than 100.000 troops on the ground and the mounting casualties in the war on terror frequently give the outside spectators a feeling that the foreign policy is only about the armed forces and furthermore, that the Military has a free hand in most important issues. Importance of education and prevention of child injury in contact with dog
CHLOPČÍKOVÁ, Marie
The dissertation entitled: "Importance of education and prevention of child injury in contact with dog" was written with the purpose to point out not only the current status of children's knowledge and experience in contact with the favourite pet - dog, but primarily to provide a new educational-preventive concept that should help to reduce the risk of incidence of negative experience (injuries, attacks) with dogs in child population. The goal of the dissertation was to improve the children's knowledge on responsible and safe approach to dogs. The theoretical part of the dissertation points out the comprehensive significance of the child-dog relation. The individual sections describe the essential influence of the dog on the mental, emotional and social development of the child, with emphasis on understanding the differences of human-animal communication and the related risks. At the same time, the dissertation outlines also the issue of injuries and conflict situations caused to the child by the dog due to lack of knowledge of basic rules of safe approach to the animal. Last but not least, it emphasizes the significance of primary prevention in the relevant issue. The results of the empirical part of the dissertation pointed out the most frequent causes and mechanisms (basic risk factors in child behaviour) of origination of conflict situation between children and dogs. Based on the alarming results of the first research stage, a new interactive educational-preventive program was created, based on zootherapy - canistherapy method, AAE (Animal Assisted Education) technique, cooperative teaching and situational learning. To assess the efficiency of the preventive activity, a feedback quantitative study was created; it showed improved knowledge on safe approach to dogs in elementary school pupils after having passed the preventive program. The success of the practical form of the preventive program in educational facilities was supported also by creation of educational material - workbook for children. The aid can be used not only as teaching material but particularly as a source of visually processed information and principles for conflict-free child-dog coexistence. The dissertation constitutes a serviceable material not only for lay public at educational level, but also for professional public from the perspective of use of canistherapy and prevention of child injuries.

Metabolism of anthelmintics in plants
Pavlík, František ; Szotáková, Barbora (advisor) ; Vokřál, Ivan (referee)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biochemical Sciences Candidate: František Pavlík Supervisor: Prof. Ing. Barbora Szotáková, Ph.D. Consultant: RNDr. Radka Podlipná, Ph.D. Title of diploma thesis: Metabolism of anthelmintics in plants Anthelmintics enter into environment mainly through excretion of treated animals. They may cause a lot of adverse effects in ecosystem as they can affect non- target animals or they can accumulate in plants. Further, after consumption of these plants by livestock on pastures the resistence of helminths can be induced. Therefore, the present study was designed to find out biotransformation of frequently used anthelmintics flubendazole (FLU), albendazole (ABZ), fenbendazole (FBZ), ivermectine (IVM) and monepantel (MOP) by the common meadow plants harebell (Campanula rotundifolia) and plantain (Plantago lanceolata), which may often come into contact with anthelmintics through the excrements of treated animals. As model systems, suspensions of harebell and plantain cells and in vitro regenerants of plantain were used. There was no toxic effect of anthelmintics for these plants; they were able to metabolize anthelmintics into a wide scale of various compounds. These metabolites were identified by ultrahigh-performance liquid...

EEffffeecctt ooff ddrroouugghhtt oonn tthhee mmeettaabboolliissmm ooff ttaabbaaccccoo ppllaannttss (Nicotiana tabacum L.) Diploma thesis - abstract Lucia Miedzińska, Bc. Work Supervisor: Doc. RNDr. Helena Ryšlavá, CSc. Consultant: RNDr. Veronika Doubnerová, PhD. Drought stress is one of the most frequent form of plant stress, which occurs not only under condition of limited water availability, but also under reduced ability to accept water by roots, for example in salted or cold soils. In this thesis the changes in enzyme activities of: NADP-malic enzyme (EC 1.1.1.40; NADP-ME), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (EC 4.1.1.31; PEPC) and pyruvate, phosphate dikinase (EC 2.7.9.1; PPDK) in tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum L., cv. W38) after drought were investigated. Enzyme activities in tobacco leaves were significantly increased during 11 days of stress, PEPC 2-fold, PPDK 3,3- fold and NADP-ME 4-fold compared to control plants. The regulation of NADP-ME and PEPC activities were studied on transcriptional level - by the real-time PCR method and on translational level - immunochemically. The expression of NADP-ME protein and transcription of mRNA for chloroplast NADP-ME isoform were increased, but mRNA for cytosolic isoform was not affected. The protein expression of PEPC was slightly increased, transcription of...

The hereditary sensomotoric neuropathy.
Jelínková, Zora ; Daňková, Pavlína (advisor) ; Šolc, Roman (referee)
Hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy (in short HMSN or hereditary sensomotoric neuropathy) also known as Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of diseases which are the most frequent disorders affecting peripheral nervous system. The prevalence of these illnesses is generally 5 - 40 people per 100 000 inhabitants. CMT was first described in the 1886. Because of a large number of various types of mutations classification of HMSN is disunited. The main division of CMT depends on the median motor conduction velocity (and also on the part of nerve that was damaged). It is demyelinating (CMT 1) type and axonal (CMT 2) type. Further classification depends on the mode of heredity and phenotypic expression. Autosomal dominant CMT are divided into four main types - CMT 1A to D. Similar, CMT 2 could be distinguished by genetical subtype as well or, the classification can follow phenotypic expression. Beside the autosomal inherited HMSN, other types of hereditary sensomotoric diseases do exist: intermediate CMT, X-linked CMT, Déjerine-Sottas syndrom, congenital hypomyelination neuropathy and hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsy. Individual types of HMSN are caused by mutations in various genes that are localized on different chomosomes. The...

Emergency preparedness of municipalities with authorization of the municipal office Březnice resulting from Crisis Plan MEP Pribram
PINKAVA, František
The thesis analyses municipality with a delegated local authority's preparedness for critical situations which results from the critical scheme of a municipality with extended powers. The results of this work are Crisis Preparedness Plan for the particular municipality which may be applied in practice. Processing of this part of the work is based on data gathering and solving when I mainly used factual and analytical method. Consultation with experts was also important since some sources were not always topical due to frequent legal decrees changes. The data gathering was done in a qualitative way when I worked with particular valid laws, government regulations, public notices and other legal norms and with available literature data, expert publications including website information, especially from official website of individual Integrated Rescue System units and the Home Office. In the research part itself, the city of Březnice is characterized and for which the Crisis Preparedness Plan is being made. General administrative characteristics of the city and municipalities which arise under are stated here as well as demography, infrastructure, geographical and climatic characterization. Important facilities from the point of view of population protection, such as schools, school and social facilities are graphically shown here; followed by characteristics of Integrated Rescue System units in the city together with instruments which are available to them. Another important part of the thesis is the hazard analysis which I had been given by the Czech Republic Fire Brigade from the Crisis Plan of Příbram's Area with Extended Powers and it has become the crucial source while writing this work. The hazard analysis identifies 14 threats which may occur in the Příbram Area. The most important part of this thesis is, in my opinion, the hazard analysis of the city of Březnice. Not all of the hazards may appear in the administrative area of the city Březnice, however, there may occur certain threats in this administrative area which are not underpinned in the Crisis Plan of the Příbram Area. Here I have come to the key findings crisis plans of the areas with extended powers are rather general and insufficient for preparing solutions of critical situations development in administrative areas with a delegated authority. I have come to those findings after having made a SWAT analysis and thanks to this I have discovered threats which were not dealt with in the crisis plan. There are several findings as a result of this thesis and the suggestion of the Plan of Crisis Preparedness of a municipality with delegated authority of Březnice. The first finding answers the research question of "Which are the hazards threatening performance of the tasks of a municipality with delegated authority of Březnice resulting from the Crisis Plan of Příbram's Area with Extended Powers and whether the municipality is ready to deal with these threats?" The city of Březnice is not quite prepared for upcoming hazards since there are not analyzed all threats which may occur, because these plans are too general to analyze well the setting of lower administrative districts and this has become the next finding. Further, I may claim that the city of Březnice is, in many ways, independent while dealing with certain crisis situations due to sources which the city provides. This is another aim of the work. The created suggestion of the Plan of Crisis Preparedness should contribute to effective solutions during crisis situations in a municipality with delegated authority of Březnice and thanks to created cards; the solution of crisis situations should become better-arranged with the plans. The created suggestion of the mentioned plan may become a model for processing crisis documentation in other municipalities.

The thesis deals with the annual assessment of trial operation of the wastewater treatment plant in Dolní Věstonice. Th e theoretical part focuses on ways wastewater services for municipalities sizes 2001 - 10 000 EO. The following are the most frequently observed indicators which are reported in the current legislation. The practical part is focused on describing the wastewater treatment plant and to assess its condition at the time of trial operation. Calculated parameters of volume and hydraulic loads are then compared with the original proposal in the project documentation. The values of substance loads are compared with current legislation on implementation of runoff. Below are caused failures and problems in the prior operation. A conclusion is determined by energy class watched cleaners in terms of energy consumption.

Disclosure of wrongdoing in labour relations
Petrová, Anežka ; Morávek, Jakub (advisor) ; Pichrt, Jan (referee)
The submitted diploma thesis deals with the topic of disclosure of wrongdoings, which has lately gained attention due to the recent considerations of the possible complex legislative proposal in the Czech Republic. Therefore the purpose of this thesis is to analyze the current legal situation of disclosure of wrongdoings in the Czech Republic, along with analyzing all the aspects that should be taken into account when considering a legislative proposal, as well as analyzing and evaluating the legislative proposals that have already been submitted. The first part of the thesis presents the subject of whistleblowing and the different approaches to the subject, which are presented by the authors of the frequently used definitions. Then the author deals with the very essence of the issue and answers the question why it is necessary to legally regulate the area of whistleblowing. This thesis also presents various problematic questions including ethical matters inextricably linked with whistleblowing. Subsequently, the thesis provides an overview of international commitments of the Czech Republic consisting of the most important documents, both hard law and soft law, related to the reporting of wrongdoings together with other relevant activities of the international instutions such as decisions of the...

Study of Electrophysiological Function of the Heart in Experimental Cardiology
