Theoretical background Psychiatry belongs to fundamental branches of medicine. Its task consists of diagnostics, treatment and prevention of mental diseases. Psychiatry includes adult psychiatry, child psychiatry and adolescent psychiatry, gerontopsychiatry, psychiatric addictology, psychiatric sexulogy with psychiatric rehabilitation. Nowadays, importance of the psychiatric branch is increasing; according to epidemiologists, we can see a slightly upward trend in the number of psychiatric patients. Work of a nurse in the department of psychiatry differs considerably from work in other standard departments. Such work is demanding both physically and mentally. Methodology The qualitative methodology was applied to the research. The data were obtained by the interview method. Prior to execution of the research as such, the staff nurse was asked for permission and she agreed with execution of the research concerned. In cooperation with the charge nurse and the head nurse of the department of psychiatry, seven interviews with the nurses were made. The interview consisted of twelve questions and was absolutely anonymous. The written records of the interviews were analysed and the results were divided into categories and sub-categories subsequently. Results Based on the research, it was discovered that work of nurses in the department of psychiatry is much different from work thereof in other departments. The nurse working here should be interested in the field and should have good knowledge of the psychiatry-related issues. The nurse working in the department of psychiatry should be competent, resourceful and should be well informed of the patients to be able to perceive early possible changes in their behaviour. In the psychiatric nursing care it is important in particular to communicate correctly with various types of patients. Therefore, it is vital for the nurse to be well versed in mental diseases and symptoms thereof. Behaviour, perception and communication of the psychiatric patient are often affected by the disease as such. There are various communication barriers which the nurse has to cope with. Therefore, the nurse should be able to use all components of verbal as well as non-verbal communication correctly. Preparation for incidents consists of in particular regular training in the area of occupational safety and protection of health at work, fire protection and study of methodological guidelines and standards of the department of psychiatry. Certain preparation for incidents is included as well. There are sufficient possibilities of further education in psychiatric nursing care available. As it followed from the research, the nurses show active interest in education and search therefor independently. The nurses are sufficiently supported by their superiors in the search for suitable educational projects. Conclusion Considering the overall view of the thesis results, it is possible to say that the research questions were answered and the set goals of this thesis were achieved. The results of this bachelor's thesis may serve as supporting source material for lectures on nursing care in departments of psychiatry. Working with prisoners and the formation of standardized programs
Bajcura, Lubomír ; Šotolová, Eva (advisor) ; Sochůrek, Jan (referee) ; Černíková, Vratislava (referee)
In the year 2007 for the Prison Service of the Czech Republic the new treatment program for offenders of commercially motivated sexual abuse of children became preferred. Community is very focused on this area of criminality. In 2007 there were 1 205 of abuse of children. Getting over the long-standing taboo has criminological consequences, which has been confirmed by records on sexual abuse and maltreatment in personal files of dangerous offenders. Therefore, special treatment with offenders of sexual abuse of children represents part of the fight against the most serious criminality and contributes to protection to the most vulnerable members of our community. Commercially motivated sexual abuse of children has been frequently accomplished through a third person that uses pressure or violence on a child. That is why offenders deny their guilt before both the community and their own conscience. The standardized program should guide an offender towards recognition of reasons and consequences of his/her criminal activities. The research part of this thesis concentrates on how the program is perceived by both the offenders and the realization team. The huge potential of the educational part of the program, where facts and theoretical information on the specific criminal activities play the formative role, was...

Communication in language class
Koulová, Ilona ; Šebesta, Karel (advisor) ; Lehečková, Eva (referee)
This master thesis is concerned with an analysis of communication in the classroom, in which the Czech language is being taught as a foreign language. In the first introductory theoretical part of the thesis, the specifics of educational communication are delimited and afterwards expanded to include communication in the foreign language classroom. This part also examines the most genuine principles in foreign language teaching, points at the so-called communicative approach in education, and accents the importance of the concept of interaction in the technique of teaching. The next section of the thesis specifies all requisites related to the system of analysis discussed in the communicative discourse of authors J. McH. Sinclair and R. M. Coulthard from 1975, who divided the discourse into several types of units, the smallest of which was established as the act. From the acts on, the thesis is based on their analysis. It examines the types of acts, their linguistic (eventually para-linguistic realizations), and their modifications with respect to the educational goal of class/activity. Finally, besides the discourse on acts, the thesis is concerned with the question of crossing the target/mother/ mediate language and the influence of these interferences on the negotiation of meaning.

Hemodynamic monitoring in the intensive care - preparation of educational materials for newly hired nurses
MELICHAROVÁ, Jaroslava
This diploma thesis focuses on the monitoring of hemodynamics in intensive care units; the main objective was to create an educational material for newly employed nurses. This educational material should facilitate the adaptation process of nurses at Anaesthesiology-Resuscitation Units (AR) or Intensive Care Units (ICU).The diploma thesis is divided in two parts: theoretical and empirical. The topics covered by the theoretical part include the concept of intensive care, the technical equipment, the scope of work of intensive care nurses, anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, cardiovascular system monitoring, hemodynamic monitoring, adaptation of new nurses at the workplace, and the possibilities of educational methods aimed at newly employed nurses. The empirical part was conducted as qualitative inquiry in the form of interview. The interviews were semi-standardised and they were held at the AR unit in the České Budějovice Hospital. The subjects were the nurses from the RES 1 and RES 2 stations. The first part of the research inquiry consisted in interviews with the nurses at the Anaesthesiology-Resuscitation unit. The interviews were not taped, due to the respondents' request. All the answers were carefully recorded and immediately transcribed and processed to prevent any inaccuracy of information. The results were organised in charts according to the categorisations, in a well-arranged manner. The second phase consisted in creating the educational material for the newly employed nurses and the third phase concluded the project by distributing the educational materials at the hospital unit where the interviews were conducted. The nurses could therefore assess whether the educational material meets their requirements and will be useful in practice. The respondents were interviewed again and the results were subsequently also organised in charts. The results of the research inquiry show that the nurses at the Anaesthesiology-Resuscitation Unit in the České Budějovice Hospital perceive the correct hemodynamic monitoring as important, that they know what hemodynamic monitoring is and are aware of the monitoring possibilities. The nurses of this unit perform both invasive and non-invasive monitoring of hemodynamic parameters. The basic task is measuring the central venous pressure and arterial pressure. Other parameters are monitored by the doctors with the application of the Swan-Ganz catheter. The most frequently used monitors are PICCO, Lidco, Vigileo and Vigilance. All interviewed respondents agreed that their only help during the adaptation process was the manufacturers' materials and the advice from the nurse-trainers. A small part of the respondents was trained directly by the company distributing the monitors. The final phase of the research inquiry revealed that the nurses like the new educational material but they are afraid that it will end up collecting dust as the other materials supplied by students. The interviews established that it is easier to directly communicate the necessary information to the new nurses along with practical demonstration than to recommend an educational material for studying of at least the theoretical part.
