The first and second war in the Gulf: significance of the technological superiority in modern warfare

This bachelor thesis is focused on role of modern technology in outcome of first and second Gulf war (1991 and 2003 respectively). Thesis is evaluating the role of technological advantage on the battlefield, skill difference between actors, role of air force, air supremacy and psychological and moral factors. Main goal of thesis is to compare the importance of all those factors in relation to the outcome of conflict(s) and review main theoretical approaches that offers explanation of how and why the conflicts ended the way they did. Both war campaings are thoroughly analyzed and compared against each other and confronted with the specific theories. Main discovery is, that the great results were caused by synergistic relation mainly between skill, technology and air support. Special chapter about practical and policy implications for AČR (Army of Czech Republic) is located at the end of thesis.

Military justice in the Czech Republic

The topic of the thesis is military justice in the Czech Republic. Thematically, this thesis builds on my previous thesis titled Military criminal law in the Czech Republic, focusing primarily on the substantive rules of military criminal law. Military justice is a specific area of criminal law consisting of several seemingly separate elements. The connecting and at the same time characteristic features of military justice are the limitations of its powers and competences exclusively to soldiers, or to persons having similar status and mission as soldiers, as well as to the direct relationship of persons with military justice to the armed forces. Although military justice in the Czech Republic in the true sense of the word ceased to exist on 31.12.1993, some of its elements persisted until today. The purpose of this thesis is to present a comprehensive picture of the military justice in the Czech Republic, as according to my findings, such comprehensive thesis has not been published so far. For this reason, I was forced to base my research mainly on the text of legal regulations, explanatory notes and commentary. Strategic Culture of the Czech Republic

Jan Beneš Strategic Culture of the Czech Republic Abstract The aim of the dissertation is to define in a complex manner the strategic culture of the Czech Republic. Strategic culture is at first analysed as a conceptual phenomenon both in relation to strategy itself and to the theories of international relations. The dissertation introduces the different streams of thought about strategic culture and then studies the approaches of the key involved authors with a special focus on the discussion between the first and the third generation of strategic culture scholars. Concerning the fact that the strategic culture has been originally created for the study of the behaviour and strategic thought of major powers, the author analyses the historical and geostrategic peculiarities of a small state in the Central Europe and then defines own conceptual and methodological framework. Using the method of grounded theory, the important symbols and narratives from the Czech history as well as the most important moments in the Czech political and strategic thought and decision-making are being examined. The historical narratives re-appear and influence the decision-making, thinking and argumentation of the key actors in the Czech security community. Design and Implementation of Effect Model in Simulation System OneSAF Testbed Baseline

This project deals with the modelling and the simulation, its basic characteristics as well as its respective branches. The majority of the project is aimed at modelling and simulation in military environment with a description of the asset in this area while considering different uses of these simulations. I also introduce the development of modelling and simulation in the army of Czech Republic. The project also deals with the constructive simulation and tries to bring out the OneSAF Testbed Baseline simulation system. At last, I propose some concepts of models for this particular simulation system - the model of psychological effects and the model of generating the rubble during the operations of the artillery.

East against the West? Representations of war in egodocuments of British and Russian participants of Crimean War 1853-1856. Doctoral thesis Mgr. et Mgr. Petr Wohlmuth ABSTRACT This doctoral thesis adheres to genre of historical anthropology of war and military. It draws on two theoretical sources. The first consists of paradigms of cultural and social anthropol- ogy, more specifically symbolic historical anthropology in the tradition of Geertz, Darnton, Sahlins and others. The second represents the cultural history of war in the tradition of Kee- gan, Hanson, Lynn or Isabel Hull. The research question is focused on the culture of war during the Crimean War, especially during the Crimean campaign and siege and defense of Sevastopol in 1854/55, as its variables were represented in egodocuments of its Russian and British participants. Crimean War has been the subject of many historiographic texts, but most of them were essentially conservative, relying on national, ideological and civilizational labeling instead of deeper analysis. Computer Games and Battle Mechanics in League of Legends: Investigating analogies between real warfare and computer games

: BATTLE MECHANICS IN LoL: Investigating Analogies Between Real Warfare and Computer Games My Masters' thesis will be about how one can draw parallels between the e-sports scene in competitive online games, and the all-too real military situations that come up ever so often. Not just that, but also the possibility of running battle simulations is much more convenient in the case of e-sports, as there is no life/death scenario involved, which makes it much more suitable for implementing the more unconventional, or even some downright outrageous strategies for victory. The game I have in mind at present is League of Legends, which is a MOBA game [Multiplayer Online Battle Arena]. In LoL, battles take place between two teams of 5 vs 5, involving 10 unique characters out of a total game roster of 140+ possible character choices, each with different sets of abilities and playstyles suited for different [or in some cases, the same] situations. The battles take place on the map called Summoner's Rift, a terrain with various obstacles, bushes and whatnot to deny total vision to either of the competing teams. The methodology I would choose for my paper would be statistical analysis; since LoL is an online competitive game, statistics are easily available for the games played, either on the official game...
