NATO enlargement to Western Balkans and its strategic importance
Tesařová, Šárka ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Karmazin, Aleš (referee)
This Bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of the development of the integration of Albania and Croatia into NATO structures. The first part describes the NATO open door policy along with the accession criteria and accession process. The key part is the analysis of whether and how the candidate states have fulfilled the established accession criteria based on the criteria of the NATO Enlargement Study, focusing in particular on selected factors - national political situation, public opinion, defence expenditure, professionalism, interoperability, diplomatic relations and cooperation with NATO, involvement in missions and relations with neighbouring states. It also examines the strategic interests of NATO in the Western Balkan region, and NATO may have been motivated by an attempt to strengthen its position in the Balkans. The outcome of the thesis is the assessment of the preparedness of the individual candidate states, where neither Albania nor Croatia fully met the accession criteria and the final decision of NATO was therefore more based on political judgment and strategy in the Balkans.
Germany's European policy in the Western Balkans on the example of Croatia's accession to the EU
Radalj, Lovorka ; Handl, Vladimír (advisor) ; Zimmermann, Volker (referee)
The master thesis "Germany's European policy in the Western Balkans on the example of Croatia's accession to the EU" deals with the role of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Europeanisation of the countries of the Western Balkans in order to achieve stability in the region and peaceful resolution of the conflicts. Germany's main objectives in its European Policy in the Western Balkans have been to restore democracy, liberal economic market, rule of law, resolution of the refugee problem, protection of minorities, protection of the human rights and regional cooperation. The stabilisation of the Western Balkan should be achieved by its integration with the West: EU and NATO. Germany is intensively present in the Western Balkans since the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Through its active involvement in the crisis of Kosovo, Germany strengthened its leadership role and responsibility within the EU. At the same time it also strengthened its position in the Western Balkans by its political, economic and humanitarian engagement. The focus will be on the description and interpretation of the motives of Germany's involvement in the integration of the Western Balkan in the EU. The aim of the thesis is to interpret the steps Germany took as a strong advocate of the EU- accession by the example of Croatia's...
Implementation of innovative production of protective liner to the manufacturing company
Kukla, Petr ; Lidmila, Zdeněk (referee) ; Peterková, Eva (advisor)
The Diploma thesis describes the implementation of innovative production of protective liner to the manufacturing company. The liner is manufactured in sizes of nominal diameter DN 200 - DN 500. The material is low-alloy steel EN 10216-2 10CrMo9-10. For the production innovation, the technology of pipe end flaring by a movable mandrel was chosen. Verification of the functionality of this technology was performed using analytical calculations and numerical simulation of FEM. The results of numerical methods were compared with the results of a practical experiment. The experiment was performed on 5 test specimens with a diameter of 273 mm. The machine device was a hydraulic press with a nominal force of 2000 kN and equipped with pressure and position sensors. The experimentally obtained values of force and the tool path dependence were similar with the values of FEM simulation. The difference in the value of the force in the maximum tool path was 290 kN. The flared diameter was formed to a value of 319 mm. This value corresponds to 16.5% of increased nominal diameter, which is sufficient from design point of view. Non-destructive tests ruled out the presence of crack defects on the flared diameter. According the new set up working procedure was produced the first real part. Significant financial savings of CZK 3.5 - 5.3 million / year were quantified in the technical and economic evaluation. Return on necessary investments is between the 9th - 14th manufactured pieces (approx. 15% of the annual production volume). In conclusion, innovation has promising results and will be issued by the company into the production process.
Member State's positions towards Western Balkans Enlargement
Války, Oliver ; Knutelská, Viera (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
This thesis studies the positions EU member states take towards the Western Balkan Enlargement. We examine what forms these positions. We examine what influence does the net contribution to the European budget have, net contributors are less likely to support further Enlargement. The levels of migration and the feeling that migration is a concerning issue do not have relevant influence on the popularity of the Enlargement. We found no relevant correlation between the feeling of European citizenship and the support for the EU membership for the Balkan countries. We can, however, see that the New Member States are much more likely to support the EU enlargement than are those who became EU members before 2004. We have chosen four cases for case studies. In the case study of France, we can observe the influence of the French president on the Enlargement process and the resulting reform of its method. In the German case, the position of the political elites is a strong support of the Enlargement, even if the public are not that enthusiastic and have a lot of influence, since the German parliament has to also approve beginning of any accession talks. In the case of Greece, we can see how Greece was able to use its position as an EU member and gain leverage in their dispute with Macedonia over the name of...
Manufacturing of the steam attemperator protective liner
Kukla, Petr ; Lidmila, Zdeněk (referee) ; Peterková, Eva (advisor)
The Bachelor´s thesis deals with the innovation of the manufacturing of the steam attemperator protective liner. The part will be made of low – alloy steel EN 10216-2 10CrMo9-10. The presented work contains an overview of possible production methods, where the technology of pipe end flaring with a fixed mandrel was chosen as the most suitable. The required material parameters were obtained by the tensile test. The application of the selected technology method was verified by analytical calculations and FEM simulation. According to the determined forming force (810 kN), an electro – hydraulic press OMCN 164 with nominal force 1000 kN was chosen. This machine is fully sufficient for the production of this component. The risk of occurring of a defects was excluded based on calculations and simulation. There was assessed considerable financial saving over 53 % in the technical and economic evaluation. In conclusion, this optimization of production is technically acceptable.

The role of enlargement in the relations between the Russian Federation and NATO
Laru, Dmitry ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Ditrych, Ondřej (referee)
This particular work deals with the process of expansion by the North Atlantic Alliance in view of the theory of balance of power and the relationship between Russia and NATO. The author of the work draws on assumption that NATO's expansions, that have followed the end of the cold war, strengthen NATO's might, to which Russia must react to counter the growing power of the potential adversary. This work is divided into two main thematic parts. The first part regards the three waves of the expansion which followed the breakup of the Soviet Union (1999, 2004, and 2009); therein, the author analyzes NATO's strengthening on the military, political and geopolitical levels. The second part of the work is devoted to unveiling of Russia's potential counterbalancing steps. The Russian attempt to counterbalance the NATO's moves, of course, has also been analyzed within three frames - military, political and geopolitical. The analysis of the counterbalancing by Russia, as well as the strengthening of NATO is presented within the frame defined by five year periods. To facilitate the theoretical view, the power counterbalancing analyses has been divided into, so called, "Hard balancing" and "Soft balancing". Because the end of the bipolar conflict contributed to substantial changes in international political...
The Politics of European Union Enlargement: Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia
Hach, Tomáš ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
Tomáš Hach - The Politics of EU Enlargement: Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia Abstract The diploma thesis deals with the topic of the politics of EU enlargement and perspectives of future developments in this area. Its main objectives are to define the politics in theory, to introduce it in the context of the Western Balkans and apply it to the three selected cases - Montenegro, Macedonia and Serbia. The work considers the historical development since 1990's as an important factor with a huge influence on current negotiation, and therefore the thesis pays high attention to that. Besides the historical excursion, the thesis deals with topics of political development, introduces the status of current negotiations and the relationship between the European Union and certain countries since the establishment of the first official contact. Through the comparative case study, despite differing positions of states within the framework of negotiations, it is highlighted that all countries share common problems. The method of compliance and non-compliance generates common problems as well as underlines the particular specifics. An important contribution is also the comparison of individual countries based on fulfilment of the Copenhagen criteria in the context of current affairs.
