Regional unemployment in the Czech Republic during the economic crisis in 2008-2011

Unemployment is a matter affecting the life and position in society each of us. The unemployment rate is a widely used indicator of the maturity economies of states and their regions. In connection with the lingering economic crisis, the unemployment problem has become a widely discussed issue, in particular the differences in unemployment rates across regions of countries. This diploma thesis focuses on the topic of regional unemployment in the Czech Republic during the economic crisis of 2008 - 2011, and aims to gain insight into the evolution of the unemployment rate in the most affected region of the Czech Republic in these times of crisis.

Briefly describes the evolution and causes of unemployment in this period at the regional level of ORP and looks closer at the labor market in one of the most affected regions in these times of crisis. Analysis of regional policy of the EU with focus on achieved outcomes

The European Union aims to reduce interregional disparities through its regional policy. This thesis deals with the effectiveness of EU regional policy and trends of regional disparities according to selected indicators. In the case study the impact of EU regional policy is observed in Ireland, the Czech republic and Bulgaria. Regional disparities are examined at NUTS 2 level. The Williamson curve is tested to explore the association between the level of economic development and level of disparities. In the comparative study the values of indicators are compared to the EU average. In the end, the thesis is focused on evaluation of EU regional policy efectiveness and seven recommendations are proposed to contribute to the improvement of EU regional policy so that goals of Europe 2020 Strategy are achieved.
Geographical Aspects of Corruption in the Czech Republic

This work deals with the issue of corruption in the Czech Republic from a geographical perspective. First are introduced the theoretical approaches to the study of corruption, definition and basic typology of corruption including ways to measure it. Then follows an evaluation of corruption in the Czech Republic and a part dedicated to public procurement. The last part contains the data sources, methodology and results. The aim of the work was evaluate potential corruption in the case of public procurement of various hierarchical levels of settlement system and identify potential regularities regional differentiation of corrupt behavior at the level of the Czech Republic and in more detail in the Pilsen and Karlovy Vary region. The results of the correlations based on collected data not shown quite obvious relationship between the hierarchical level of municipality and transparency of public procurement. However, in the case of regional differentiation potential corruption were found some correlations. Urbanized and some other attractive regions have a higher potential for corruption. The impact of the EU Financial Support on Economic Growth of the Czech and Slovak Regions

One of the goals of the economic, social and territorial cohesion is to reduce regional disparities between member states of the European Union. For this purpose the structural funds and the Cohesion Fund were established(among other things). The theoretical part of this thesis presents the issue of regional disparities and ways how to measure them. In view of the lack of consistent definition of this concept, there are number of measurement and evaluation methods. Furthermore, the work focuses on the implementation of cohesion policy and ways of measurement of their impact on development and growth of regions. The practical part of this thesis presents, evaluates and compares the regional disparities between the regions of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic via selected methods and assesses the impact of the financial support provided from the Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund in the programming period 2007 - 2013 on economic growth of regions in the Czech and Slovak Republics. Following indicators are included: gross domestic product, unemployment rate, gross fixed capital formation and the rate of economic activity. The influence of the subsidy on the economic growth of regions is validated through the panel data analysis, namely a panel model with fixed effects, and Granger causality test. First, we investigated the impact of this support on the economic performance of regions where it is verified whether there is a relationship between economic performance of NUTS III regions in the Czech and Slovak Republics, characterized by gross domestic product and the unemployment rate, and the amount of the subsidy. Furthermore, it is verified whether the amount of subsidy depends on the level of regional gross domestic product. Dissertation contributes to the discussion about the impact of support from EU funds in the Czech and Slovak Republics, focusing on the regional level, and answers the question of reducing regional disparities using the Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund.
The impact of regional differentiation on the economy of Spain

There is a large economic inequality between the autonomous communities of Spain. The EU Regional Policy contributes to reduce regional disparities by providing funds to support the convergence of backward regions and the competitiveness of more developed areas. The aim of the thesis is to compare the evolution of socioeconomic indicators and evaluate their impact on the economy of Spain.
Territorial polarity of socio-economic differentiation in Czechia

This bachelor thesis focuses on the territorial polarization of socio-economic differentiation in Czechia, which is determined by a spatial analysis of previously selected indicators, such as gross domestic product, unemployment rate or religiosity. These indicators are analysed, studied and divided into three individual groups (economic, social and other), differentiated by their own attributes. The main goal is to identify and define determinants and causalities, that made the formation of a certain territoral polarization possible. After a thorough syntesis, all regions are seperated into either a more developed or less developed section.
Regional disparities in the use of secondary school graduates in the labor markets in selected regions NUTS 3 of the Czech Republic

The diploma thesis consists of an analysis of the secondary education in the Czech Republic in relation to the demand for the labor force of the labor market. The main aim of the thesis is to identify whether the structure of secondary school graduates who enter the labor market corresponds with the structure of the demand for a labor. The basic terms and concepts of education and labor market and basic characteristics of the selected regions are mentioned in the theoretical part of the thesis. In addition the basic legislation and strategic documents related to education are described in the theoretical part. The practical part of the thesis is focused on analysis of the number and structure of secondary schools graduates and the number of vacant positions in selected regions of the Czech Republic. For the purposes of the analysis the data from years 2006-2011 in South Bohemia, South Moravia and Moravian-Silesian Region will be used.
Territorial polarity socio-economic differentiation in Slovenia

Bachelor thesis is focused on territorial polarity socioeconomic differentiation of Slovenia based on spatial analysis of selected indicators. The main goal of this work is the detection of regional disparities and identifying determinants that affect their formation. Individual indicators represent a wide range of geographic realities. According to their nature, indicators are divided into three categories on the economic, social and others. Among the selected indicators include, for example, gross domestic product (GDP), unemployment rate, the total increase or degree of religiosity. The work is mainly concentrated on the territory of Slovenia, but it is also important in a European context. Final results are the determinants creating territorial differentiation and display a degree of territorial polarity.
EU Structural Funds focusing on the Zlín Region

Diploma thesis analyses current state of the European Union's Regional policy in an environment of the Zlín Region. The attthesisention is aimed at current programming period 2007-2013, motives of development, defined objectives, operating principles and system of regional policy implementation in Czech Republic including the future settings of EU Structural Funds Subsidies Exploiting System. For the futher purposes of the thesis the attention is focused on the success of the Regional Operational Programmes, that serve as a basis for the second part of the thesis. Then the analysis of the Regional Operational Programme of the Central Moravia Cohesion Region and socioeconomic analysis of the Zlín Region follow. The practical part of thesis consists of analysis of the Structural Funds through the ROP Central Moravia in the Zlín Region, specifically in the microregion Uherský Brod. The output of the diploma thesis is to document the specific contribution to regional development using selected microregion
