Foodjournalism in Czech newspapers betweenthe wars

In recent years, there is an apparent renaissance of the Czech cuisine, the "First Republic era" (1918 - 1938, CSR I) especially. Both chefs and journalists writing about cooking and dining are referring to the gastronomy of this time period more and more often and they are praising its quality and taste. However, there is no comprehensive publication about Czech gastronomy in 1918 - 1938 period, sparse references and notes can be found in witnesses commemorative volumes, from history of folklore and from the historical press, respectively. Based on the last especially, the image of "first republic" gastronomy is gradually puzzled out. Using a content analysis method, the four biggest newspapers (Lidové noviny, Národní listy, Český deník and Venkov) and eight women journals (Žena, Ženské listy, Ženské noviny, Ženský list, Rozsévačka, Česká Žena, Ženský svět and a "Československá žena" calendar) being published in examined period are investigated. Finnish media landscape - print media

Bachelor's thesis aims to describe the structure of contemporary print media in the Republic of Finland and the way they function. It focuses namely on the periodically issued print, i.e. newspapers and magazines. The introduction part contains a brief outline of historical background of the Finnish media system and thereby delineates the rise and development of print but also of other media in this country. Next the thesis describes the main characteristics of the said system relating it with economical, social and political bases. Third part of the text covers more specifically some of the present- day titles and their position within the Finnish print market. Internet and its influence on print media in Finland are dealt with in the final part of the work, which also in this context attempts to describe a possible future outlook of the Finnish press. The purpose of this thesis is to present a comprehensive summary of the Finnish print media and of their place within the Finnish media landscape.

Newspapers in public libraries

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to find out how the activities concerning daily press go in five selected public libraries. In opening chapter the examined branch is delineated by definitions of used terms, previous adaptations of this topic are summarized, and methodology of research based on interview and surveys is introduced. Hypotheses are expressed in the last part of this chapter. In the second chapter all the Czech national daily press is characterized and their internet activities are documented. If those titles have an electronic version, it's functionality is examined in this part of thesis. Chapters 3 and 4 present results of research which was done at five libraries of various sizes.The third chapter presents selected libraries and it describes the workflow of purchasing the press in those organizations with a special emphasis on the process of choosing the material. In the fourth chapter the preferences of readers in selected libraries and the intensity of their interest over time are examined. This part of dissertation also includes analysis of other activities concerning press such as cataloguing and displacing journals. Third and Fourth chapter are closed with summarization of detected facts. In the conclusion assigned hypotheses are confirmed or disconfirmed.

Structure of Trade-Unionstical Press Between 1948-1956

This diploma thesis "Structure of Trade-Union's Press Between 1948-1956" is focused on the period from 25th February 1948 till 26th February 1956. The first part is mainly focused on the situation within this period. Firstly it was needed to mention the historical background with focus on the official state policy. This thesis describes also the development of The Revolution Trade-Unions (ROH), which was done in its way as reflection on the state policy. For the better understanding there is described the situations of the Czech press in generally, as trade-union's press reflected that as well. The second and third part is firstly focused how trade-union's press was working; it means its organisation-structure, distribution, promotion or archival-collection-process. This work is concerned also on the editorial site - there is focus on the redactors and their tasks. As the examples of redactors there are mentioned two personalities: František Dvořák and Jiří Síla. Both of them did significant work for trade-union-press and it is interesting to put the light on their lives within 1948-1956. Gastronomy as a part of life style in the Czech national print media in the period between the wars in Czechoslovak Republic

The doctoral thesis Gastronomy as a part of life style in the Czech national print media in the period between the wars in Czechoslovak Republic presents the results of eight years long research of food journalism in the Czech press between 1918 and 1938. This period called First Republic is often seen, due the positive sentiment, as a modern, democratic and prosperous state. The reality is a different. This text presents just a little part of picture of life style during First Republic which is gastronomy. That mirrors the economic and social level of the society. This text reflects critically the historical facts. The assumption, that print media pay regularly attention to the gastronomy as an integral part of life is important idea of this research. The content analysis proofs, that food journalism had its own section in the analyzed daily print, although media didn't used this kind of terminology. Five national newspapers (Lidové noviny, Národní politika, České slovo, Právo lidu and Venkov) were issued in the period 1918-1938 and newspapers Rudé právo established 1920 are included in the analysis. Workers'and Trade Union Press in the Kladno Region in the Interwar Period

This master's thesis addresses the functioning of the workers' press in Kladno District during the interwar period (1918-1938). The theoretical part describes early days of mining and metallurgical industry in this region with a special attention being paid to the development of the Pražská železářská společnost and Poldina huť. Furthermore, this chapter outlines the growth of the town Kladno and its national composition until the end of the researched period. The chapter continues with providing a detailed description of work and private lives of Kladno workmen during the First Czechoslovak Republic. Trade unions and changes in legislation are discussed as they directly impacted the key professions in Kladno District - miners and steelworkers. Finally, the last section of the theoretical part is dedicated to the beginnings of the workers' press in the region, namely the paper Svoboda which played an essential role in this area. The practical part studies five titles from Kladno District, for which the local workmen constituted the target audience. The bachelor's thesis "Silver legacy of EURO 1996 during the following European Football Championships" deals with informing how selected Czech dailies reported on the 1996 European Football Championship during the following five European football championships. In selected tournaments, the text follows the frequency, and which iconic moments and personalities were most referred to in connection with the 1996 European Championship. The work is divided into three parts. The theoretical first describes the relationship between sport and the media, which is important for the correct understand of the bachelor's thesis. Further, the introductory part deals with aspects of how sports success is displayed, which is in fact the subject of research in the bachelor's thesis. In the next phase, he describes the history of European football championships. This context is also suitable for understanding a successful sporting event in a broader context. The second part of the thesis describes the definition of research and the methods used, then the introduction of the researched periodicals and the coding book itself with selected analytical variables.
