Furthermore, it includes Jan Kapistrán Vyskočil's research work and the emphasis is placed on his not so far published texts, which can be found in the archives in the Czech Republics. This work represents the first comprehensive biography of this historian.

The Christian missionary movement in China, 1860-1900

The objective of this Bachelor's thesis is to describe the activities of Christian missionaries in China during the second half of 19. century. Most attention is being drawn to Protestant missions, which are more relevant due to the absence of hierarchy in Protestant churches, unlike in other branches of Christianity. However, Catholic and Eastern Orthodox missions are also briefly mentioned. The main point of the thesis is to describe history of Christian missions in China leading to the situation which arose in the second part of 19. century, causing a variety of different approaches to the problem of evangelization of Chinese people. The thesis describes various ways how the missions were practised and what kind of reactions amongst Chinese people they induced. On the other side, the point of view of Chinese Christians is mentioned, with the side effects that arose due to the presence of foreign missionaries. This leads to the explanation of how the Christian teachings were adjusted to the Chinese culture, and what were the consequences of cultural differences between missionaries and Chinese. Pentecostalism among Czech and Slovak Roma: The religiosity of Roma and the practices of inclusion of the Roma in the brotherhood in salvation. Autonomy and Conversions among Roma in Márov

The aim of my thesis is to discuss the possible uses of the concept of autonomy in the study of conversions of Roma to Charismatic/Pentecostal Christianity. Focus on empowerment and social inclusion has been prevailing in the field, and critical reflection of questions of governance and oppression is lacking. I use the thesis by Patrick Williams (1987; 1991; 1993a), according to whom the French Gypsies who converted to Pentecostalism achieved autonomy or at least a sense of autonomy, which allowed them to downplay the role of structural factors and other people behind their actions. Through a case study from ethnographic fieldwork in a Romani Charismatic congregation in Western Bohemia I extend and refine the concept. The main theoretical innovations come from the contemporary moral philosophy, especially the theory of autonomy (of the oppressed) by Christman (2014) who defines autonomy as a reflexive affirmation of an assumed practical identity, a "life worth living". The story which missionaries in Márov, the place of my fieldwork, put forward, was that Roma converted from being pimps and drug dealers. A missionary dimension of the journey of Mary to Elisabeth (Luke 1:36-45)

Missionary aspects of the Visitation of Virgin Mary to Elisabeth (Luke 1:36-45). This work deals with the pericope "Visitation of Elizabeth" in the Gospel of Luke as the precursor of Jesus' missionary journey through the earth into the Kingdom of God. First the exegetical issues of individual verses are described followed by commentaries and interpretative notes of several exegetes using various translations of the Sacred Scripture. Next subject is the journey, as described in Luke's gospel, as well as the missionary view of the journey of the Virgin Mary to visit his relative Elizabeth, as well as the life journey of every man which leads to the Kingdom of God, which is a theme of Jesus Christ's preaching on his way to Jerusalem (Gospel of Luke). The work attempts to capture the necessary features of missionaries that can be identified in the pericope of the Virgin Mary on the road to Elizabeth. Elizabeth herself, as the person to whom the Virgin Mary was sent as a missionary is also an important topic in this work. Elisabeth shows the task and mission of the missionary himself, not only to bring and show Christ to others, but also to enable him to whom he is sent to confess his faith and show his piety. Saint Francis' quest for the Crucified through the San Damiano Cross Abstract The encounter with the Crucified is the constitutive element of the spirituality of Saint Francis of Assisi. The objective of my thesis is finding the deeper understanding of Francis' perception of the cross. The topic should be elucidated by the San Damiano Cross Icon and other moments of the Saint of Assisi's life. The study of Francis' relation to the cross will be put into an appropriate context: the theology of the cross is mainly ingrained in the Jesus Christ's Mystery of Easter. This knowledge is deepened in life of the Early Church and, through the enriching epoch-making interposition even the "poor little" of Assisi may experience its fruits. In the fundamental part of the text I will organize the key materials for the study of Francis' relation to the crucified Christ contained in the franciscan sources with the help of the newest literature. Therefore the thesis will offer a complex view to one of the crucial moments of Francis' conversion. Specifics od Field Work with Women exploited in the Sex Industry

This thesis deals with the topic of sexual exploitation of women in prostitution from the perspective of field social work and the activities of the Christian mission NGO - OM Czech Republic (OM ČR). It introduces the issue of prostitution and sexual exploitation as closely- linked negative phenomena in society. It analyzes contemporary theoretical positions and types of legal regulations of prostitution in different countries, including the Czech Republic. It also describes the method of field work and its application to the target group of women in prostitution, general characteristics, and the specifics of sexually exploited persons. It deals in greater detail with the principles of field work with this socially stigmatized group. The work of OM ČR is introduced by recalling the biblical paradigms of missions, the deaconry and the pastorate, and the principles of the pursuit of social justice, the holistic approach to man, and the involvement of Christians in social work. These paradigms and principles are also used in the ministry of OM ČR, including during field work with the target group. The individual aspects of the work are described in detail.

Abstrakt v anglickém jazyce: The life story of Jesus' disciple Philip is still mysterious for our knowledge, for in sources his person appears scarcely as an individual but mostly as a part of the community of the Twelve. Diploma Thesis Apostle Philip, one of the Twelve, deals with the life and mission of the Apostle Philip, as it is attested especially by canonical biblical sources. Besides an overview of the occurrence of the name Philip in the biblical and non-biblical sources, the work offers a literary and linguistic analysis of relevant pericopes from the synoptic gospels, the Gospel of John and the Acts of the Apostles, whose conclusions serve to detailed historical and theological interpretation of individual texts, focusing on topics related in particular to the origin, the mission, the mentality, the social status and the action of the Apostle Philip within the Circle of the Twelve. Attention of diploma thesis is also paid to the presence of this figure in non-biblical sources and also to his connection with the person of the same name, the deacon-evangelist Philip.

The Narrowness of the Jewish World in the <> Encyclical of James in the Context of Political and Religious Conflicts of the Second Temple Period

This dissertation explores the value system held by the author of the Epistle of James. Most likely, this interesting Epistle of a former Galilean peasant is a collection of his sermons or discourses gathered and edited by one of his followers. The Epistle does not relate to any specific problems of concrete communities or persons and, therefore, it may be viewed as an encyclical letter. The author's main tone is: «you must act in this way and only this way». Therefore this document is a type of «halakhah», a literary form used by the sages of Israel before the Common Era. «Halakhah», as well as the Greek literary form paraenesis, does not imply any discussion of the material, but rather calls the readers to submission. The author of this «halakhic» encyclical shifts the attention of his readers from their realities to his idealistic world. He omits many aspects of Second-Temple-Period Jewish life, focusing his attention instead on the rules of spiritual life common for both Judeans and Christians.
