Enthusiasmos in thinking of ancient Greece

Enthusiasmos in thinking of ancient Greece. - This disertation thesis analyzes the issue of enthusiasm in the context of thinking of the Ancient and Classical Greece. In a theoretical manner also tries to gain an insight into the semantical structure of enthusiasm basing on historical excursus (the Ancient Age, the Classial Age) to support its historical transformation. It was enthusiasmos and the way o mantical explanation, which enabled the poets to create pieces of art and gave rise to performing and poetry art. This thesis aims to explore the philosophical reflection of enthusiasm, because the gift of divine presence itself, such as the inspired poetic speech, was in the Archaic period certainly guarantee of the truthfulness, but in the Classical period, was all the more reason for doubt and questions. Selected works by prominent authors of ancient mindset are systematically analyzed in the context of enthusiasm.

The bachelor's thesis "There's Black and White, Day and Night, Good and Evil, Ying and Yang" follows the three-year existence of the collective "Ugly Brno" and its work, which is based on the still current, local phenomenon of redesigning of advertising banners and shields in the context of small businesses located in the Brno city center. Specifically, it focuses on emerging designs combining black and white. The output of this bachelor's thesis is a video – a fictional interview in which Black and White are personified as two confident, eccentric personalities, quasi-experts in today's visual culture and the ultimate guarantors of taste, who conquered the city of Brno with their realizations. The objective of this thesis is to reveal the mythology behind the popularity of black and white combination in the context of visual culture, particularly in graphic design and its connection to the problematics of gentrification and capitalism. Another objective is to use sarcasm and irony to create a reflection of a culture whose values are elitism, workaholism, perfectionism, disregard for alternatives and an emphasis on efficiency. Why is it that in such a culture, black and white has gained more and more popularity than ever before?

Visual experince as example and pattern in relation to the expansion and influence into human life

The main theme of this dissertation is to define an image as a visual experience. The human interaction is described by the author himself as a perception of the image, which serves as an information unit that could be presented as a possibility, example and pattern for the individual. There is an emphasis on the process of perception itself and on the way of interaction of an individual emphasizing the context of social learning and imitation in this text. The analysis of the principles of this interaction leading into introduction of the partial interactive models covering these processes is formed by the essential plane. The structure of the thesis is divided into ten main chapters in which the author tries to introduce a category of perception, a definition of the image and imitation as a tool of cultural transmission, presentation of the units of this transmission, the process of the interaction itself and analogous example of the fundamental role that a person in this interaction holds. There are also three analogies of these roles, which refer to the anthropological universal interaction describing the man as a gatherer and hunter. Physical Fable

Bachelor thesis entitled Physical Fable or Animal Character in Ritual and Theatre explores the use of animal characters in rituals of different cultures and in European theatre. It emphasizes the use of a mask for this purpose. The work draws from both the theoretical ethnological, cultural and similar sources, as well as from the texts of theatre makers, who have many years of practical experience. After introducing the concepts and linking the work to previous research, it focuses on understanding the differences and similarities between the ritual and the theater and the role of the mask in each one. It suggests the hypothesis that the ritual elements still exist in the theater among actors and theater makers, and they are therefore trying to return the ritual to the theater. There follows the exploration of various (mostly still alive) traditions including an animal character, from which a similar return could get inspired.

TITLE Compositional-stylistic Unities in David Lodge's Changing Places AUTHOR Martina Felcmanová DEPARTMENT Department of English Language and Literature SUPERVISOR PhDr. Petr Chalupský, Ph.D. ABSTRACT The main aim of this diploma thesis is to focus on the forms in which heteroglossia manifests itself in the most widely known campus novel of David Lodge, Changing Places. The Theoretical Part explains the two crucial terms of Mikhail Bakhtin's literary theory, namely heteroglossia and dialogism, and describes the impact his ideas had on the critical writings of David Lodge. Moreover, it strives to combine Bakhtin's and Lodge's typologies of novelistic discourse with the terminology of Seymour Chatman, in order to create sufficient terminological framework for the subsequent stylistic analysis. Consequently, the Practical Part attempts to explore how the separate unities of heteroglossia are represented within the structure of Changing Places, what effect they have on the implied reader and how they influence the novel as a whole.

TITLE Telling and Showing in The Bluest Eye and To Kill a Mockingbird AUTOR Martina Felcmanová DEPARTMENT Department of English Language and Literature SUPERVISOR PhDr. Petr Chalupský, Ph.D. ABSTRACT This bachelor thesis focuses on similarities and differences in the narrative strategies in the novels To Kill a Mockingbird and The Bluest Eye. The main objective lies in the analysis of how, and for what purpose, the two modes of narration, telling and showing (also diegesis and mimesis) are used. Furthermore, the thesis provides a comparison between two different narrators and it attempts to describe the effect their narrative has on the implied reader.
